Dr. Peter Derman provides an in-depth explanation of spinal decompression surgery. This is a common term for a variety of surgical procedures which offer relief for patients suffering from spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is a pressure on the nerve in the canal the nerves pass through. This pressure can be caused by a variety of conditions, such as: a herniated disc, bone spurs, overgrown soft tissues from arthritis, as well as trauma, and spine tumors.
Many of the symptoms that occur from spinal stenosis are pain, numbness, tingling, and/or weakness in the arms or legs. If these symptoms are causing issues in your daily life, you should seek the expertise of a spine surgeon to review your condition and help you find the right treatment options for you.
There are a variety of treatment options that are considered a decompression surgery. These surgical options include: a laminectomy, a discectomy or micro-discectomy, tubular retractor surgery and ultra minimally invasive spine surgery, also known as endoscopic spine surgery.
In some cases, a patient may need an additional surgery to stabilize the spine to alleviate the pressure and properly set the spine.

I was in a wreck 2 yrs and my lumbar is fused at age 11 from scoliosis, I have had my life ruined since wreck I can’t walk/stand up straight longer than 5-8 min, my lower half of body goes completely numb the only way to describe it is if you’ve ever ran and you push yourself to where your legs feel like jello or noodles , I know I need something and the chiropractor I was sent to after wreck was a joke and actually made it worse and I don’t have insurance but I can’t live like this

Can you do a laminectomy with minimally invasive procedures or Ultra minimally invasive? Thoughts on how well 84 yo’s do with laminectomy. My dad has mod-severve stenosis at L3-4; L4-5, with increasing weakness walking. Has some mild vascular issues but vascular surgeon says good enough blood flow.

I read online that people over 70 or 80 are less likely to get back surgeries due to their age and risks, but I am just a lay person, I have back pain Im 52 and just read your comment, so you might want to research that, but endoscopy is more minor than a full back fusion surgery so I really don't know, you should call Dr Dermans office and ask them directly for the best answer.
