I will flip my windows to the back for a lake view and hope to multiply them under the high pitch of the single slope roof. I will pair down my prior on line estimate of sq. ft. and once in the budget ball park present conventional and unique window concepts for you to evaluate as go or no go. I think my favorite idea will work well under a single slope roof. Now to finish the video, I am so excited to see new window flashings which will be a major detail to review for highest reliability. I say that even with friend’s 25 year old barndo windows showing no leaks even with lots of exposed caulk. I want to trust good details in a well executed plan to be as permanent as reasonable, just like I see you showing off ( isn’t that Texas saying, “No Brag, Just Fact”) … and low maintenance, easy maintenance.

We’re looking to do this exact floor plan in NC but like an enclosed porch on the side and cedar posts and garage extended out for a drive thru from front to back. Was planning on black siding and charcoal trim but like this burnished look too. Trim with black and may look good that way too.

LOVE this design. Is the roof strong enough to be walked on or have solar panels attached to? Is it best to have those installed before/after the closed cell insulation?
@TexasBestBarndominium7 ай бұрын
It’s easily strong enough for that. Ours are more ready for that type of deal than most conventional frame. I would recommend doing that before spray foam if it was over the living area.

What are your thoughts on advanced framing? I’ve recently learned about it and it seems like it would save lumber costs.
@TexasBestBarndominium7 ай бұрын
In some ways the Barndominium is advanced framing already. We could go to 2’ spacing with our walls if we wanted as well. I like advanced framing though to answer your question. Smart way to build.
@joemclaughlin81067 ай бұрын
@@TexasBestBarndominium thanks for the quick reply. I’m hoping to build my own house in the future. And that seemed to be a way to save a little money as well as building a barndominium. Also from what I understand a single slope roof can save some money. Plus a single slope roof works well with a passive solar design.
@TexasBestBarndominium7 ай бұрын
@@joemclaughlin8106 I suppose you could expect to save a few dollars on a single slope, we haven’t experienced the savings part. But you are eliminating a little bit of trim and gutters. A little less main steel but mostly pretty typical to normal. Not enough to be the main reason in my opinion to go single slope
@joemclaughlin81067 ай бұрын
@@TexasBestBarndominium thank you for your expertise on that. It’s just something I read about once but I also have always like the single slope look.
@cbsdesignscbs3866 ай бұрын
this is great. can you tell me why you don't use the zip under the metal roofing. I would think it would be better for the closed cell insulation to be attached to it rather than the metal?
@TexasBestBarndominium6 ай бұрын
In terms of adhering there is no problem spraying the metal with closed cell foam. In our area this is a great way to prevent condensation and then have the preventative measures against conduction. Adding the deck above the roof is great just would mean added cost with additional framing needed as well as the expense of the deck board. If the client is willing to go the distance we are not against that method.

Whats the longest span on a single slop that you can do and can that slope be reversed for the shop portion?
@TexasBestBarndominium7 ай бұрын
Anything can be done according to engineering and material specifications. Steel we can make the beams thicker and bigger to create some of the largest spans. We’ve used 12-14” beams to go 60’ pretty routinely though.
