Thanks for the great videos Ronny, really enjoyed the 300 vs 6.5 explanation. I have noticed the same thng with my 6.5 at close range many times. Everytime I drop one of those filthy things, they are always 2x as heavy and stinky as I had ever imagined. That was a good night tho!

I have used 300 blk-out, 6.5 grendel, 350 legend, 6.5 creedmoor, 8mm mauser, 25-06, and 45-70 on hogs and my experience with the grendel is bullet selection is more of a factor than with the others ,. I love barnes bullets in my 300 blk and my 25-06 but not in my grendel they do not expand well, I like sst and tnt much better in it. I think they would do good in the faster 6.5 cartridges. This has been my experience but others may not agree, use what you have confidence in and keep on hunting !

I have a 300 blk in 8.5 and 16 inch versions. Glad to hear they work well within 100 or so yards against hogs. I am surprised the 6.5 grendel didnt work for you. I think that the bullet selection matters with that round.

New to the 6.5 Grendel, but have been shooting the 300 about 5.5 years. Love it, so I have two; a 10.5 and a 16 inch. I see many vids on using the 6.5 as a hunting rifle, and some comments on it not stopping the game animal, but you explained it very well. 300 being better when up close and personal. Good Vids.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Love my Grendel and I completely agree, too fast at close distances for piggies. I shoot the Hornady 110gr GMX (Full Boar) in my 300 Blackout. Now I'll be looking at the Barnes for sure. I also built a Wilson Combat 300HAM'R, specifically for hogs-125gr Sierra Pro-Hunter; although I haven't been out to get on some hogs yet. BTW, awesome video of the Thunderbirds flyover! I heard them from my house but wasn't able to see them. Stay safe and healthy.

Thanks for confirming my theory there with the 6.5! And yes, try those Barnes VORTX. They mean business. Have another video in the queue from this past Wednesday, shooting that same ammo and rifle. Glad I went back to 300 BLK.

@@TexasJAGD BTW, two questions, are you running a standard carbine buffer weight? And what brand of tripod was that while you were sighting in?
@TexasJAGD4 жыл бұрын
Actually running a JP Enterprise buffer in this SBR. Quieter than standard buffer. And the tripod was just a regular Manfrotto tripod. Not really meant for shooting purposes, too short for me and once you have to extend the center pole like that, it becomes pretty unstable. I have another one from the brand "Oven" which is high enough for me. Made of carbon. But also a standard camera tripod. If you're looking for a shooting tripod, I would check out Kopfjäger Industries.

@@TexasJAGD Thanks for the info and reply. I'm running similar (although a bit cheaper)- an Armaspec Stealth Recoil Spring. Actually in all my MSRs and overall happy, but I was having cycling issues on the 300BLK (suppressed), and pushing subsonic. The weight was 4.2 (basically equivalent to an H2). I got it to cycle good on supers, but not subs. So, I'm switching to a lighter 3.3 weight. Hopefully this solves the issue. Yes, Kopjager has a superior product for sure. Thanks again.

Am I the only one who had flashbacks to the American Psycho/Hip to be Square scene when he had the hog laid out in front of his ATV and started getting gloves, implements, etc out to cut it up...? My methods are a lot less.. precise and neat.
@ElderGuy7293 жыл бұрын
If you hook BOTH hind legs, it’s a lot easier to drag those varmints. Otherwise the trailing leg keeps catching on things. 👍

up to about 150 yds... I think the 300blk is great... I don't understand why some people turn their noses up at it...

Agreed. After all the calibers I went through over the past 12 months, I'm coming back to 300 BLK. But I will try out 308 in an AR10 pistol soon and see how it compares.

Thats because the keyboard warriors on the internet say that it take at least a 300 win mag to kill a deer and that most shots are at at least 1000 yards.
@adamfarag99714 жыл бұрын
What kind of accuracy beyond 100 yds have you experienced with the 300? At what point does accuracy severely drop off?
@aaronwhite9794 жыл бұрын
If you like .300 blackout and don’t shoot subs. You should look into 7.62x39. Hits a little harder and is cheap to shoot. Only negatives IMO are the specific mags in the AR unless you get an AR/AK hybrid.

What barrel length are you using? if you haven't mentioned it
@finney8612 жыл бұрын
What length of barrel are you using on your blackout? Just curious. I’ve just built an 8.5 and I’m wondering if I should go a bit longer for hogs. My suppressor is 8in as well. Not sure is that helps for length??
@TexasJAGD2 жыл бұрын
This is a 10.3" barrel, but I also have another SBR with a 9" barrel. The suppressor supposedly does increase muzzle velocity, but AFAIK not to the same extend a longer barrel would do. A suppressor also wouldn't add any more spin to the projectile as a longer (rifled) barrel would. I'd say you take it to the range and shoot 100, 150 and 200 yards and see what your groups and your drop looks like. Too many factors come into play to make a decision there without actually shooting it. You might realize your 8.5" barrel is sufficient for your needs.

Do you think it's possible to hunt hogs on a budget without going to a paid location or having the fancy thermals? I'm in college still so I'm pretty broke but I would love to be able to help out and get some pork loins and roasts. I really don't even know where to start but I know here in Texas they're all around us. I never had a dad or father figure of any sort to help me out with this stuff so I'm pretty lost and I haven't found much help online.

Its a DIY build. I really not to put a video together on it. You basically buy the camera from SpeedIR and also get a remote control search light. Then you take out the actual light bulb and make the camera fit inside. Should be able to film it this weekend and then have a video up soon.
