Paddling the Little Wichita River west of Lake Arrowhead in spring of 1987 after heavy rains swelled it considerably, I had the pleasure of witnessing alligator gar spawning at the headwaters of feeder creeks there. I had the displeasure of finding several dumped cans of dimethoate floating in the main channel, very likely left there by a local farmer too lazy to dispose of the highly toxic chemical properly. Never have eaten another fish out of any Texas waterbody since.
