Thank you so much for this, again. I keep repeating myself but it is such a pleasure to find tutorials that go into detail of the topic instead of "one button solutions" that are aimed for just views/likes and rarely work anyhow. So, once more, thank you so much for time and effort putting together this great content!

Just FYI When doing the text box line at the ten minute mark, you can simply switch the border style from a rounded edge to a squared edge. That will make the dot disappear at 0.0 length and the expression obsolete, unless you need a line with a rounded edge. This is a good video and helped me find exactly what I needed. Thanks a lot. Keep up the good work.

True, thanks. Though for slower line animations you might want the rounded appearance- well depends on the style 😉

What I like most in all the Bernd tutorials, including this one, is that he explains different options (including advantages and disadvantages of each) to achieve a result and with the excuse to explain the main subject he often explains as well very important/advanced tricks that can be applied on anything else. In this tutorial for example, I found extremely helpful and hugely important: 1) How to create new versions of a project. 2) How to link parameters between nodes or within the same node. 3) How to use data arrays and calculations with them. 4) How to use shape tools to create a brush. 5) How to create you own control parameters. I have just two questions regarding this tutorial: a) How to get the name of the array to manipulate and details about it? b) Can we assign random or specific colors to each star while animating the frame? In the mean time, thank you Bernd to have published another wonderful tutorial.
@VFXstudy2 жыл бұрын
A) probably from the scripting documentation or maybe from forum posts. That stuff isn't so well documented - but now you have it here😉 B) not this way. Don't think that would be easy with the paint node. Would probably have to think about some other solution here

Nice and helpful tutorial. But how would you set it up so that the shape scales with the Text, if f.e. you have a typewriter style textanimation and the box should "grow" with it
@VFXstudy6 ай бұрын
Hmm, not easy since the layers don't use the write start/end animation. So you probably have to manually animate it or go via DoD.
@pascalfurst78647 ай бұрын
Nice and helpful tutorial. How would you set it up so that the background shape follows a write on effect of the text? I tried it with your expression but the rectangle would scale from it's center and not adjust to the bbox of the text. And is it possible to set individual rounding values on the corners of a rectangle?
@VFXstudy6 ай бұрын
With expressions it should be possible. If you go via DoD, then you might need to change the expression to keep one corner fixed and expand towards the other, or manually set up an independent animation.
@TynkaTopi Жыл бұрын
I noticed when using Playpack -> Timeline Proxy Resolution -> half or quarter, for faster workflow, will also change DoD size values half/quarter. So those will mess your expression locations/sizes and mine too :)
@VFXstudy Жыл бұрын
Oh, in this case, you would also need to adjust the size. The image output has a parameter Width / Height and also OriginalWidth / OriginalHight. The latter will give you the frame resolution, the former should adjust based on the proxy. So if you use the correct combination of proxy or original resolution to calculate relative position, then you should get again the correct relative coordinates (independent of the proxy).
@TynkaTopi Жыл бұрын
@@VFXstudy Thank you ! Width/Height solved my proplems, I thought the macros were not working properly. On one session macro works and ten minutes later not, all because of proxy changes and not knowing correlations.

so I want to make a box the dimensions I want with the background color I want. Then drag it around the screen the way I want it. Then I want to put text on top (in) the box of the size text I want and move the text around inside the box to where it should go. Can Davinci do this? Seems pretty simple to me.
@VFXstudy Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. Box with mask for the background, then merge Text+ over the foreground and use Text+ center or Merge Center to move it around. It's also possible to create custom sliders that restrict the movement etc. Though building that yourself from scratch requires a bit of effort. Alternatively use shading layers within text+ you can create outline and boxes there as well and move them relative to the text.
@Abdlmnn12 жыл бұрын
Hi. I tried using the on animated text but the box size scales from the middle. I tried adding transform node to control the anchor but it doesn't work properly. I'm trying to create type write animation where the box will only appear after the letter is revealed.

If you have a star form as input (like the last example), can you add keyframes and animations to the star form (most likely: let it turn) and will this show up in the result?
@VFXstudy2 жыл бұрын
Sure you can. It's just an image input. You can connect whatever you like and it'll use the image from each frame, if the star is animated on each frame you get a different input...

What is you want to animate the text and make it coming from under the rectangle and fade in. At this time, the width and height of text are outside boundaries of rectangle and therefore to have both (rect and text) aligned on center can not work. So what is the solution in this case ? thx

This made me revive an old project of mine. But I am a bit stumped as I kind of want to use the expressions like one does in After Effects. But I have not found any way to write multi-line expressions. Maybe I can brush off some of ye olde algebra trickery to compact the procedure to a single line... but still... I would love to find any way to make multi-line expressions. Anyone know of a way to do that?

How about creating some temp parameters (e.g. via edit controls). You can use expressions on parameters that in turn use expressions.
