I would love to see a tutorial that turns images into those classic thatched/line shading sketches that you see in old books and things (think how MC Escher drew his famous “Relativity” drawing if i didn’t explain it well enough). That would be really handy for the style I’m going for in my work.

your lessons are engaging and mind blowing... Those sun rays required a bit of thinking. 8 bit is a good starting point. the filter gallery only works on 8 bit images. Image => Mode=> 8bits In the end, turn the layer into a smart object. I find keep the file as a smart object allowed me ti transform and move the sun set | rise accordingly. I like having the background as a transparent. When using the gradient, make sure the gradient is black and white; then, set the foreground colours back to black and white by pressing "D". Shift + click and drag to keep the line for the gradient straight/ flat, if you want to have a flat horizon.

For the last step would it be better to use a Selective Color Adjustment Layer? given that it has the RGB color channels and B&W?

For sure, I like the idea of being able to target the B&W that way... That RGB to CMYK conversion isn't quite as intuitive for me as HSL, but it would totally work!
