Correct translation: Intro: Nobody wants, my darling Not for anything in the world To try and heal my wound Nobody wants, my darling [Verse] As the night falls, the same dream comes back Standing before me is a saint holding black linen That voice is calling me into the grey sea I have no luck, there's no salvation for me (There's no salvation for me) [Pre-Chorus] Nobody wants, my darling, nobody wants my pain Or to be moved to tears or for me to surrender to them Nobody wants, my darling, nobody wants my pain On my pillow, restlessly, I dream of evil [Chorus] Till my final summer, till the world ends My fate is cursed This soul has no home, this soul has no tone Candles of a black dawn are burning, my nightmares [Post-Chorus] My nightmares, my nightmares My nightmares, my nightmares My nightmares, my nightmares My nightmares, my nightmares [Chorus] Till my final summer till the world ends My fate is cursed My nightmares, my nightmares My nightmares [Outro] Nobody wants, my darling Not for anything in the world To try and heal my wound Nobody wants, my darling ( dzanum means my darling, my love) 😊

Yet there are two mistakes: there's no mention of summer in the song. The line "ni do zadnjeg leta" is often wrongly translated as "till last summer" but actually it's last/final flight (Let), which in Serbian is pronounced with long vowel. If it was summer (Leto), the first vowel would be short. This is also obvious from the original mv where airplane is shown when this line and chorus goes. The word Džanum while it can indeed mean darling among the other things, in the context of the song it means my soul, my heart. There's an interview in Serbian language with the author and singer Teya Dora done by Aleksandra Kundačina for Journal rs from March 25th 2023 "Teya Dora otkriva sve o novoj pesmi za Južni Vetar" explaining the title and the meaning behind the song's lyrics.

The lyrics seemed to have been mistranslated in the website you're watching. It wasn't "my sea", it was 'my nightmares'. More means both sea and suffering but is used as nightmares in the song.

The meaning of the name "Džanum" is familiar to anyone who has lived in Turkic-speaking countries or often communicated with natives of these countries. In translation from the Persian language spoken by Hafiz and Saadi, it means "dear", "sweetheart" or "my soul". The word is also used in the countries that were once under the Turkish Empire - Bulgaria and Serbia. And the singer and composer of Serbian origin Teodora Pavlovska (performing under the pseudonym Teya Dora), who is known far beyond the borders of her Slavic homeland, made this word the title of one of her songs, which was first published on KZbin in March 2023 and immediately entered the charts not only in Serbia, but also in other Western Slavic countries. What is the meaning of this song, already translated into English and other European languages? And how did it come into being? History of the song "Džanum" Teya Dora herself says that she was inspired to create this song both by the tragic history of her people, who became a grain of sand in the millstones of great power politics, and by her personal experiences. By her early thirties, she had gone through several affairs, none of which ended in marriage or even a long-term relationship. "I understand men who find it difficult to get along with me," says the singer, who is used to the fact that her compatriots hold deeply patriarchal views on gender relations, and that European and American men do not understand the Slavic mentality. Another source for the origin of this song is Serbian legends and tales told to little Teodora by her grandmother. These legends invariably end, if not with the death, then with the separation of the lovers, who are hindered by long-standing family feuds, irresistible fate, the intrigues of the unholy force inexhaustible for evil inventions, or evil people jealous of the power of faithful love. Girls in these songs time and again turn into a weeping birch or wither from grief, young men fight with monsters or thrown into hopeless battles to end soon with a shabby life. In short, Shakespeare is resting! The meaning of the song "Džanum" So, the meaning of this song, which also has a second title "Moje more" (translated into Russian not only as "My sea", but also as "My sufferings", "My nightmares") is deeply metaphorical. Each of the stanzas can be "deciphered" both literally and allegorically. For example, the inhabitants of the small mountainous country of Serbia, many of whom have never been to the seashore in their lives, associate the sea not with carefree summer vacations, but with biblical images - the eternal restlessness of the human soul and the depth of human suffering, like the bottomless abyss of the sea. The expression "ni za živu glavu" means "as long as I live" or "for nothing in the world". The black blanket in the hands of the hermit saint wiping away the hero's tears is not only a linen cloth, but also a miraculous cover that wipes away the sinner's tears and heals his sorrow. It is possible to convey the plot and mood of this song without losing a single facet of its meaning only by using fairy-tale images born of folk imagination. Like the heroes of medieval legends, the protagonist addresses his distant beloved with the affectionate words "Janum" and laments that he is in an unkind foreign land where there is no one to address him with words of brotherly consolation, much less to heal his intolerably aching soul wounds. Every night he is invariably carried away to the land of nightmarish visions and stays there until dawn. There the hero sees ominous black candles, as if lit for his funeral, and hears the voice of an elder calling him to go on an eternal journey across unknown seas and wander there until the end of the world. This vast and gloomy gray sea, from which no daring or desperate wanderer has ever returned, is a metaphor for death, from which neither the righteous nor the sinner has escaped, nor the unfortunate unattached mortal who feels himself doomed to eternal torment in the afterlife while still on earth. This is exactly what the hero of the song "Janum" is, plunged into the abyss of black despair and feeling that only the appearance of a loved one can bring him out of this abyss. Until morning, he staggers in his bed, tormented by the pain of his wounds and feeling that the cruel world does not care about his grief and tears. In the morning, he begins his normal life and daily worries again, and only a song written in his native language, which sounds like a native voice from afar, helps him cope with them.

6:08 the red figure actually stands for the guy named Crveni (in serbian means The Red one) one of the characters in the Serbian crime drama series "Južni vetar - Na granici"=South Wind - At the Limit/Border for which this song was specially written as an intro. Crveni (The Red One) doesn't appear that much as the main characters, but his lines and mysterious role are very important for the story (corrupted deep state being involved into organized crime). 2:25 Džanum has a Persian origin, but entered Serbian through Turkish language due to some historical circumstances, in the songs context means my heart, my soul though it can mean also darling, though originally in Persian stands for "my life". The translation of the lyrics has lot of serious mistakes. Main one being the chorus - it's not my sea, but my nightmares, the words are spelled the same way - "more" - but have different root and meaning. The line "ni do zadnjeg leta" is often wrongly translated as "till last summer" but actually it's last/final flight (Let), which in Serbian is pronounced with long vowel. If it was summer (Leto), the first vowel would be short. These things are also obvious from the original mv where airplane and nightmarish figures are shown when this line and chorus goes. There's an interview in Serbian language with the author and singer done by Aleksandra Kundačina for Journal rs from March 25th 2023 "Teya Dora otkriva sve o novoj pesmi za Južni Vetar" explaining the title and the meaning behind the song's lyrics.
