Something that I notice watching Zesty is the good eye he has for color, he could EASILY be a graphic designer. 1:22:07 he had a REALLY GOOD POINT with combining a "brass" color with a little brown dark color, since both are warm color and complement each other. I would love to see a stream of him trying to design one wep skin from 0... even tho he doesn't want it ahahah

i feel would be nice zesty made some tutorial videos of design like he did for mock on a war paint he made in 5 minutes like that would encourage new people to get into make stuff for the game, i always wanted to do stuff since i was a 15 years old in school escaping classes just because i thought mayann update was coming sooner and i was there trying to design a shotgun for pyro and soldier, like i believe zesty could carry many people if he take the time to learn the modding tools or atleast teach how the potoshop tools works because i see tools he uses i never saw before i wish to do a unusual and weapons concepts i draw when i was in high school but im being encouraged more thanks to others youtubers to make counter strike content because i always wanted to make a cool skins for counter strike but yet they dont show design techniques things i gotta to watch from other channels

not just a graphic designer but a map designer too, it seems he has the capacity to tell what makes a map fun. these workshoppers are just trying to milk us players and it shows how little they care for us. ive personally had an argument with nate-tea (that workshopper you keep seeing pop up in the accredited creators) and they double and tripled down on how they only care what they think a map should be.

Poker Night games are canon to Tf2 and Portal, as the Script for their respective characters was approved by Valve and generally it doesn't break canon, Heavy even mentions his time in the Gulag and Heavy still represents a country he's coming from in 1960's, he may hate the Soviet Government, but he doesn't blame the Nation.

Try to see it more like an Entertainment universe has no canon outside of their respective media, but characters still behave and act like themselves, so whatever they say can be considered as truthful. In the End, Valve allows us to pick and choose what is canon or not, so the community must agree between themselves.

A big driving force for this project is seeing how lacking is the representation for South America, one map with the name of my country (Brazil) it's not even located in it! I wonder how would you take the common colorful nature of Brazil's presentation and make it work in TF2 desaturated artstyle. Would "Salvador" (for exemple), work better by simply desaturating the colors a bit? Wish Zesty would have given more constructive criticism for those maps, it really means a lot for me.

@@susus13 The koth map "Brazil" does not actualy take place in country of Brazil. It takes place in the "Arecibo Observatory", in Barrio Esperanza, Arecibo, Puerto Rico owned by the US National Science Foundation. You can find this in the TF2 wiki.

Personally, I would I have set the map around sunset as it will greatly help tone down a lot of the brighter colors. That and remove some of the off beat color like green to help declutter the visual noise.

9:40 Zesty maybe you should make a video explaining exactly what MAKES a good map "feel like TF2". You already did it for war paints might as well explain for map makers. Is TF2 dulled out colors to fit the 1980's artstyle.......I think it's 80s. Is TF2 about warm wood vs cool metal buildings? Is TF2 about certain map designs that could influence where sniper has more dominance in the area vs somewhere he sucks at? EXPLAIN please. Also we need more pant cosmetics cause we have a lot of good shirts and hats, but barely any pants. 2:12:40 It's a gordbort weapon, let us have it. Only fair, besides not like demoman has a certain secondary that could still deal with sentries anyway.

the "tf2's gameplay objectives are inherently not skillbase" statement is something i can really resonate to. Pretty sure this is also one of the reasons valve removed the arena gamemode, but for some reason a lot of people voted that one map into either last year or the year before's halloween. But looking at the charts now i'm sure now that most of the voters who did voted for it are people who barely play the game. Pretty sure there is another one on the workshop that was teased a couple of times being a mixture of arena and rougelike. At least it does mix things up a bit but at the end of the day it is still arena and barely belongs in tf2.

Now here's a question: Are remodels of weapons underrated? Somehow I mostly see people reviewing skins and warpaints, or at best conceptually new weapons, but I rarely see weapon remodels entering the game, and I think it's an underrated route for workshop content. Think about it: you don't need to be knowledgeable of the game's internal mechanics and see where the game lacks in that sense, and be able to provide a good alternative. The 2 challenges you do have to overcome are strictly design related, which are: 1. Be able to design a weapon that fits within the TF2 universe, following a theme or not (unlike the Batsaber imo); 2. Be able to design a remodel that would make it intuitive to understand that this model would work the same as its original weapon (Like the Morning Star looks like it would work like Machina and unlike any other rifles, and unlike C. A. P. P. E. R., which does NOT look like its a pistol remodel, to me it looks more like the Bison with projectile ammo). Now, the problem with it is obvious, sure. Imagine having a load of those remodels. Now people that are not traders or invested in item lore have to figure out which weapon is a remodel of which gun. what should a player do if he sees a merc with one of the hundred remodels of the same weapon concepts? Like, if I was a new player I'd probably have a hard time deciding what to do against a pyro that holds a Postal Pummeler vs Axetinguisher. But then again when I see an opponent I rarely look at which loadout they use, but maybe it's just me being bad at the game. So, whaddaya think? But then maybe this whole tangent is empty words since I don't glance at workshop content often and maybe it's already a thing or my point is just plain bad.

Now as an alternative to the problems mentioned before, I could also suggest weapon accessories! Remember when MvM items were a new thing? I used to crave those heads on my stock weapons when I was a F2P back then, and I still love these items and use them regularly. Imagine if we had more variations of those weapon accessories for either stock or alternatives, that are or aren't tied to a theme? Maybe an alternative to a festivizer for once?? CS stickers??? They would not make it hard for players to make out the host weapon, and could be a fun alternative to people who don't like warpaints.

Yes, suijin is very much a stylistic mismatch, same as something like koth king. Egypt somewhat gets away with it, it looking like red/blu are excavating resources, with scaffolding, imperfect man-made buildings built around the existing Egyptian themed areas. It's still loosely thematically adherent to TF2. Something Egypt has over koth king/suijin/these tropic maps is that it adheres to TF2's traditional map design philosophy. Washed out colors and simple lighting that accentuates player models for visibility. Inherently simple map geometries, textures, prop details, and backgrounds, so the focus is on who you are fighting and not on an overly cluttered and distracting landscape. It retains the sensation of being present in a unique and rememberable location without overdoing it. It's why Egypt "feels" more like TF2 than some of these tropic crisis maps. Koth king barely scrapes by thanks to its lighting and colors, and it's background skirting the line of being too busy. Suijin? Aids.

I wanna see many more maps with more variety than just badlands/factory or trainyard settings, but embargo has so much clutter that, like you said, it could be confusing to navigate. And to top it off some of the other maps in the "update" are very clearly unfinished like how you pointed out. I don't agree with all your opinions but for this one I do because in a game like tf2 clarity is above all else. It's a shame mappers/item modelers tend to miss that last part though.
