That is easy! Colors at that point means nothing but confuse anyways. If the chess pieces have to be identical for both sides? Then one player plays with each piece bang on strait and neatly placed. The other player would have to place each chess piece facing at 45 degrees. Sure some of the pieces are very round without visual features to work like that. If there was a way to make it work and still have 40% of the pieces in the wrong color? I mean it would make it painful. You could very feasibly play chess without color. It would simply be awful.

As someone who is colorblind (Moderate Deutan specifically) on mainly the red color, the argument they used against you of "I have to be more situationally aware" is complete nonsense. With 1500+ hours of Team Fortress 2 I am very familiar with the nature of Spy gameplay and these cosmetics do severely mess me up with colors regardless of how aware I am of my surroundings. The players against the color recognition philosophy is pretty much giving the middle finger to people like me and I'm not the only one who deals with colorblindness. With the standard clothing and colors placed in vanilla TF2, not once have I had a problem of recognizing who is enemy and who is friend. These cosmetics change that and I have been screwed many times by them. Workshop creators should 100% have to consider the amount of colors you are able to customize on said cosmetic or you'll create the problems you have showcased.

One advantage you can utilize that wasn't shown in the video was shooting your gun at your teammates while alongside the enemy. Spies can't shoot disguised and they'll assume you're just attacking like the rest of them. Shooting or performing any weapon animation is a universal "i'm not a spy" indicator and that gets thrown out the window.

8:40 Something that makes this example make sense on how people mess up is to not focus your vison on the spy and figure out what color this is, as the Spy won't just be standing in the middle of the screen, leading to them not being the first thing the player sees.

About the spychecking point, it’s even worse since I only spycheck friendly spies when they have a mask on. I’m going to be naturally trusting an undisguised spy because I’m aware that disguising as spy forces your character model to have a mask. Identifying a spy when they are undisguised is just as important as when they are disguised since you need to quickly distinguish them from visual clutter after they get a kill / are outed as an enemy.

FYI it’s not like valve *can’t* remove shit from tf2 models. This is quintessentially small in comparison to paint regions, but on the Desk Engineer, the creator put a bisexual flag and a trans flag on the model, I believe on the back of the ID card (where nobody would see it). And, in the recent patch for the game, they removed it. REGARDLESS OF YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS, it proves that they CAN change models. There’s probably a lot more that goes into changing paint regions for a model, but, as someone with 0 experience on making games, I believe they could still do it. They just choose not to.

When you are playing for tf2, you look out for scouts, soldiers, medics with uber. Not some dude using a very speccific cosmetic set, that appears once in a blue moon. Because keeping any amount of attention looking for something that usually doesn't happen will reduce your efficiency in some way. If you were looking every match for a pyro with a mishmash of colors, you'd get picked off by scouts you weren't looking for. It's that simple. To me it's so much about silhouettes. When a cosmetic has a similar silhouette as a stock item, and then swaps the color? Look at the silhouette of a Stock blue spy, and your Red "Blue" spy. Their head regions are basically identical. That's such a mixed signal. If it's a weird and wacky hat? Sure I can handle that variable. But switching a that ski mask color is egregious.

This is true. While this is quite minor overall and I have only run into 6-7 of these in game (as many as I remember), that shouldn't be an excuse for these to become a main stay or that it is okay. I remember you or weezy said something similar to this (I think it had to do with ice cream and dicks); It is like you sit down to have a nice meal. However, when it is served to you, it has a couple of rat droppings in it. It may be the finest cuisine ever placed upon a table and you can try to pick around them, but no one wants rat shit in their food no matter how small it is. These paint regions, while a small problem, shouldn't be a problem at all. Of course I do not think there was any malicious intent, but there has to be a bit of quality control on this, so it doesn't happen. While it may not fool everyone every time, it shouldn't be able to do that at all. It just shouldn't be a problem. Great video! Also, respect to the Water Warders cosmetic guys for addressing the issue and taking the feedback in at least a little bit.

Bruh as somebody with severly limited vision I have always found the base designs of the mercs to be fantastic for quick and easy recognition and that guy talking about avarageing is just straight up wrong, the strong contrasts is the easiest way for me to differentiat things from one another so if to almost equal parts are very differing colours I would never be able to tell without just having it spelled out for me.
