Usually the custom weapons are OP. This one is nerfed to practical uselessness. The Slower upgrade and build speed seem right. The higher cost is tolerable too. But the lower fire rate with the reduced upgrade makes improving the thing a nightmare. Plus reducing repairability sucks harder when the building have more HP The benefits do not seem worth the cost tbh.

All of this would be fair if the sentry had a frontal projected shield similiar to that of the medigun upgrade in MVM. AOE can still hit the engineer behind it repairing the sentry as it's being attacked but he'll be protected by the shield as long as the sentry has over half of its health, if its health falls below that the shield won't be present until it's repaired to a point above half once more.

Increase turret fire rate by 10-20% and remove the range penalty. Or just remove the range penalty and the swing speed penalty. Otherwise this is too much for too little

All it does is give a _very_ insignificant increase to the Sentry's durability, and absolutely neuters your ability to do anything. It's an awful tradeoff. The drastic decrease to repair rate ALONE is enough to completely outweigh the increased HP, because you can't out-repair incoming damage, rendering the increased health useless, and then there's a swing speed debuff on top of it. The increased build cost is egregiously high for what you get out of it, and it extends to ALL buildings, not just the sentry, despite the fact that other buildings don't get any sort of buff in return, and in fact, the Dispenser becomes _weaker._ This weapon as it is is absolutely terrible. I'm sorry, but that's the truth. I do really like the concept; tougher Sentries that are slower to build is an interesting premise, and a logical counterpart to the Gunslinger giving you fast, cheap, weak buildings. But this is just unusable. If you wanted to keep the general structure, I would do this: - Remove ALL of the debuffs to non-Sentry buildings, OR give them all some sort of meaningful improvement to justify them. For example: make Level 1 Teles recharge slower than normal, but Level 2 and 3 faster than normal, and make Dispensers restock Metal faster, and give both of them more HP. _Some_ sort of improvement to the Dispenser's metal resupply is essential to keep up with the more difficult building and repairing. - Reduce the slower repair rate to 10%, remove the upgrade debuff altogether, and increase the firing speed debuff to 20%; the slower speed is sufficient by itself to reduce repair and build rate. - Reduce the increased build cost significantly; you should still, at the very least, be able to get multiple buildings out of one resupply. Most maps simply do not have enough Large Ammo Packs for building and upgrading anything outside of spawn to even be remotely possible. - Increase the Sentry health buff to 40%, which puts it over the threshold for the number of explosives needed to destroy it, and give it a slight resistance to indirect/splash damage, maybe 20%. - Make the Engie move slower while carrying the altered buildings. If Dispensers and Teles are returned to being stock, don't give them the movement penalty. I'm aware this isn't a perfect design either, and it could be tuned more finely by more experienced weapon designers, but the general gist of it is solid. It feels much more like an actual usable sidegrade; everything happens slower, but breaking a dug-in nest is harder, and it's much more optimized for defensive play, which was the original intent.

Here's a different take towards the idea. heavy support: Keep the same stats, but allow buildings to automatically build and make it so that if you use it on a dispencer or teleporter, here's what they can do further. Heavy support lv 3 dispencer. Dispenses 100 metal, though resuply rate is unchanged. It also dispenses 40 hps. Teleporter, lv 3 teleporter instead does not need to recharge between teleports (could teleport more than one person at a time if not bugged.)

I think this might've been doomed from the start, on paper it seems like an interesting idea, a stronger sentry that takes longer and costs more to build, but nests are already strong enough. A tier three will demolish anything unknowing of its presence. A well-maintained nest can only really be taken out by an uber, stickies, careful soldier, or a spy. Another thing is, that the wrenches in the engineer's loadout seem to affect one specific thing, the gunslinger only affects the sentry, the eureka effect affects teleporters, and the jag only really affects its own stats. and as many people have already said, not being able to repair it makes it essentially a bomb, pair that with long "recharge" time makes it a horrible bomb.

So sentries still get 2-shot by demos and level one and 3 shot by demos at level 3? You get one extra hit at level 2 but a demo that could three-pipe a level 3 could do the same with a level 2. The benefit does not reasonably protect any building from a serious attack. With a wrangler I could see it maybe being quite formidable...Until it has to be repaired or the engi dies. A huge amount of risk for a reward that relies on other sacrifices. If it's "Heavy Support" then maybe it should focus more on Dispenser and Teleporters? Decrease the cost and time to build teleporters and dispensers and make both of them better. That would then explain the hard nerf to the sentry. The sentry is the last-line of defense and you can only really afford to build one after every other building is set up. Make it interesting by offering a small damage resistence while in a dispensers range or a speed boost after leaving a teleporter. Focus on support being the primary "weapon" an engineer could build instead of making every building worse in exchange for maybe surviving an extra bullet or two.

I love the idea of new kinds of engineer buildings. Here's some ideas that have been bouncing around in the ol noggin and seen in videos: Sentry replaced by balista, significantly increased damage and range but less firerate and probably health, possibly allowed in medieval. Teleportes replaced by one jump pad and one boost pad, very helpful for more active engineer players who don't want to worry about a building back at spawn. Dispenser replaced by mini dispenser, yeah. Teleporters replaced by catapults similar to boost pads but send players in an arc, maybe only get one, possibly allowed in medieval could be very fun to send people over degroot keeps walls. A replacement pda that allows you to move building's while having them active, all of these would function like holding a tool box, so can't use weapons till you put it down, push sentries along on wheels for offensive pushes, but sentries can only be upgraded to level two and it's a level two with one minigun in the middle. Hold dispensers to like create a sphere of healing and ammo dispensing around the engineer. The effect is as strong as a level one dispenser but it effects everyone in the sphere, holding a teleporter just let's teammates teleport onto you. Perhaps significantly reduce teleporting cooldown while your holding it so you can move your team in. Dispenser can only heal but it gets more health and can target 2 people at once, possibly allowed in medieval. Now for some engi weapon concepts: double barrel shotgun that shoots very low spread slugs that targets your sentry onto who you shot, could work well with the balista from earlier. Pistol that gives teammates ammo when you shoot them, 5 shots in the clip each giving like 50 flamethrower/minigun ammo. Maybe give it a damage bonus. When giving teammates ammo it draws from Your metal supply but the conversation rate is very worth it something like 10 metal for every 50 flamethrower/minigun ammo, could work great with that healing only dispenser. Let the engineer use the winger, yup that's it. A wrench that encourages you to help your fellow engi, like slower swing speed but less repair/ammo refill cost on friendly building's. As for upgrading maybe like every 25 metal is 50 on friendly building's. That's about my only wrenches concept but alot of those replacement building's would be wrenches with their own stats so yeah, also the medieval set would all be equipable with eachother, you figure it out.

From my understanding, once its maxed out, youre supposed to leave it to where you want area denial, unlike stock sentries that you need to constantly repair and ressuply. It should be so that when you die while carrying it, the sentry should auto deploy. A great offset for the punishing cost and time to build, although make it inactive for a few seconds when deployed that way.

The only way for buildings requiring manual construction to work is to increase building boost/swing speed, not decreasing it. So anyways, here some suggestions: >Remove the "Sentries dont build sutomatically". >Remove the range penalty. >Replace repair rate penalty with an increased repair rate and increased repair cost. >Add a speed penalty while moving buildings.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the downsides outweigh its benefits. I feel like the increased metal cost + manually building would enough get you killed in a main game. Especially with the stacked slow upgrade and slower hits for, more HP for your buildings and crits. I personally say remove the slow upgrade and if you are going to double your metal cost then you had might as well give a additional multiplier to the metal to balance it out even if slightly. EX; Multiply cost of sentry by 50%, ( 130+75= 205 ) and give an additional 50% to max metal. But I am assuming in game ( besides MVM ) and your project it is not possible so the penality for additonal metal might as well be lowered. And for a bonus swing hit hit penality ontop of all the already additonal penalities doesn't even make this worth using besides MVM, which even then would slow matches down. It feels like a anchor to true potential of what this weapon could be in theory If this was an official item I wouldn't see anyone use this besides trolling or for a true challenge.

For me, for this to be balanced I think they should reduce the metal intake from metal sources or at least reduce the engineers hp by 10, if there are two engineers who are working together in building these sentries

Interesting Idea of Sentry that has more health at the cost of Firepower and “Mobility”, overall increasing Territorial control, but I don’t think that Manual Construction, increased Building cost, reduced Range of Dispenser and less Health on repair(due to -15% fire rate of Wrench it is reduced already) are necessary. I suggest Leaving more health only for Sentry and removing negatives listed above. Also some of the negatives could be negated with Wrangler, I suggest changing this weapon to pistol slot(maybe like Wielder or smth, that does not repair buildings and has the same firing mechanic as Short Circuit , but still uses ammo), and Changing Rockets to Mines/Stickies at level 3

This thing looks like a nightmare to play with. Everything is slowed down so much, I think event the turtling engineers in the 2Fort intel room would get bored just smacking the sentry for 20 years, since it doesn't auto build, takes longer to build, and takes forever to upgrade ON TOP of a reduced swing speed. Also, don't know who smoked what, but that is not a 33% bonus to building health. I think it's more like 66%, cause the level 1 sentry had 250 HP instead of 150 HP. If it was 33%, it would have been only 200 HP. Interesting concept, but the numbers don't look appealing at all.

This is a good balance the only thing I would change is sentry dps so it’s not like a upgrade with more hp and same damage Edit: glass cannon type sentry more dps but less max hp

i feel as if it would be just a little more balanced if it didnt have quite as many debuffs or atleast had slightly increased damage, but with how many people play TF2 daily, any buff would be removed at some point.

just add this to the dispenser, teleporters and remove that fire rate nerf and add more repair to each hit, that would make a very hard to make defense that is very hard to destroy, but when it does it will hurt

The concept is good with it working like a reverse jag (slower build and set up for a bulkier and longer lasting sentry) but the drawback of the wrench is just so bad that it's not worth using... like at all. that 33% increase in health is not worth all of those debuffs. especially that increased construction cost. IMO, if I were to balance this (just my opinion, not an expert at balancing), I'd say to: - remove either wrench swing speed or upgrade rate. it's already slow enough to upgrade your building with one of the debuffs, both together is just overkill (IMO, get rid of the slower upgrade rate and just reduce the swing speed) - make it so sentry and dispenser have increase range instead of decreased range. the concept is to make the buildings bulkier, in exchange for time, better suited for defensive play, so reduced range just makes it an easier target, especially for demo and solder with splash damage - increase engi's metal reserve. this is not only a buff that lets the engineer carry more metal, it also indirectly buffs the metal he gets from ammo boxes. - reduce or remove the repair rate reduction. with a 60% reduction, you pretty much have to rely on rescue ranger or other ingi for repair, which means you'll treat your sentry similarly to a mini-sentry, which isn't good considering how much time you'll waste building it again this is just IMO, and I'm not crapping on the video or the person who made the concept. just that I have some balancing opinion to say about this unique but very much unbalanced wrench.

I just hope the Engineer and Spy get PDA variants, with the Engineer also getting a few building variants, but obviously only so many in the same sort of regard that Medic has for only having four kinds of Mediguns, counting his stock. Besides, doesn’t the TF2 team find the fans’ building variants to be a little intriguing?

Hot take: this is an aggressive Engineer's wrench. Why? Because if you get another Engineer to watch his buildings as well as yours, you yourself can go on the offensive. 125 health with a Widowmaker, Rescue Ranger or Short Circuit seems worth having a Sentry with 202, 243, or 291 health.

Changes you could do to make it more balanced: 1. Reduce teleporter cost to 100 (or somewhere around there) 2. Increase max metal to 300 3. Remove dispenser range decrease 4. Increase dispenser health regen (if it's designed to be more defensive then it should help your teammates more) 5. Remove slower firing speed (kind of feels tacked on for no reason) 6. More custom sentry stats (idk what those stats would be but probably more defence based, like more damage or explosive resistance or something[I know it has more health but it feels like it needs a little more of something]) 7. To help prevent sentry nests with these you could reduce the slower repair rate by half if you built it but other engineers on your team have full repair penalty when repairing your sentry These might make it more balanced or a little strong but idk, leave any changes in the replies

Okay, this needs a buff. First, 33% more health only adds up to 200 for lvl1, 240 for lvl2, and 288 for lvl3, I believe. This doesn't raise the health over many damage thresholds I can think of, and the punishments for it are way too far. I suggest actually swapping the repair rate nerf for a buff, making this a powerful sentry once its made, but getting there takes time. And for the cost, I would say the sentry should only have 175, dispenser 125, and teles 75. 150 for teles is way too much, especially with no buffs at all. I can see the idea of a powerful sentry, one that you would rather repair than let die and live, changing engineer's core gameplay more. I think the stats can look something like this: +33% building health +33% repair rate (to match the health buff) -sentry must be manually built -building speed buff on hitting constructing buildings is reduced by 50% -dispensers and teles cost 25 metal more than stock, sentries cost 45 more metal. These stats are more streamlined and balanced, making the high-health sentry at the cost of your speed. Here, you can have, technically, a better sentry than stock: but getting there is a risk.

I would also like to make a suggestion for the total opposite of this sentry, a gunslinger or sorts, that makes far cheaper buildings that build fast in exchange for reliability: +400% faster building speed +Sentries cost 100 metal, dispensers cost 75, teles cost 10 +50 more max health -all buildings are mini buildings, that are as effective as level ones, but cannot be upgraded -cannot boost construction of buildings -cannot repair buildings

perhaps if the sentry had inbuilt regeneration this absolute downpour of downsides would be worth it, but as it is, the extra health, while nice, is not worth it. a lot of the custom weapons in tf2 classic seem to be very against how tf2's balancing philosophy works, making everything extremely weak (thus making everyone tankier, and screwing with everything else). worst part is that the upside wont even matter most of the time, as usually when a sentry goes down, its because it was uber-rushed, or when the main source of damage has the ability to deal a massive amount of damage in quick succession. the main thing that the extra health defends against is when it gets peppered by shots out of range, which, may i add, it apparently has much less of, making it much worse as an area denial tool, and more vulnrable to taking damage. the sentry can really only be used effectively while turtling due to this, making the thing that people hate about engie the reccomended playstyle. as for the other buildings, having less range on the dispenser is bad (there is a reason why it gets upgraded first in mvm). as well as the terrible construction boost making it even worse. there is also literaly no reason as to why this needs a slower repair rate, as all that does is make it so that you solely rely on other engineers for repairs, and they cant do the same for you, basically aquaiting you to a leech on the teams resources everything about this weapon contradicts itself. its not good. the literal only major thing that i can see coming from this is that spy will find it more difficult to kill teleporters with just a sapper, as this gives the few extra seconds to do that.
