This turned out so nice! I’m not a fan of bugs 🐜 in general, either. I probably would’ve ran away screaming like a banshee!

That desk had so many tragic previous "improvements" in so many various combinations, it is frankly Frankensteinish! Your repairs and restoration and creative coverings gave this sweet little desk some dignity and respect. It's got a bright future with some lucky person.

Woohoo! Bird's Eye maple?! Rare and my dad's most loved wood. Gorgeous.

Thank you I only wish I could have repaired it more accurately.

@@AskingSpot I looked up bird's eye samples but even those can be costly. I don't know if you refinish wood enough to make a miscellaneous sample box worth it.
@AskingSpot Жыл бұрын
@@mala3isity this was my first attempt at something that was so damaged. I don’t know what it was about this piece but I couldn’t let it go. It sat on Facebook Facebook marketplace for over a month. Normally, I’m dealing with 50s on up pieces with less veneer damage. However this experience taught me a lot so I might do more damaged pieces going forward and I will try to remember the sample book. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing your struggles to get this piece looking fabulous! The veneer top looks great. I don’t have any problem with the use of fabric on the interior. I always figure that if I want something done differently than what the creator making the video is doing, I’d best be willing to get up and “do” rather than just watch! I live in an area where there are just nice black ants that just tickle rather than bite! I still don’t want them in my house though

Fire ants from when I lived in Louisiana still give me nightmares 🥴 But thank you! This piece stressed me out because I wanted it to be liked again in order to sell well for the charity.

that is really in bad shape, i laughed so hard about all the contact paper on it. I love the pencil sharpener. I WILL have one, one day! I was so excited when i seen the birdseye wood veneer! I have never had luck using the damp towel to remove the veneer and i always go straight to the heat gun. it looks absolutely beautiful!! I dont think you give yourself enough credit Margie you knocked this one out of the park!! it really looks stunning!

Saw you from Angie's challenge, thanks for joining it. Really liked your vudeo. Personal preferences- no music. Silence is ok or just the sound of the work. At the beginning you said how dirty it was then you started cleaning. Show us that dirty white cloth. Give us the whole experience. Also whatever you did with the cubbyholes / ant stuff.
@AskingSpot Жыл бұрын
I filmed in time lapse and noticed that the moment I turned the dirty towel to the camera went by way too fast. Thank you for the tips and yeah the music was too loud although, possibly because my background is in radio, silence is deadly to me 😉I will pay closer attention to the volume in the future.

I have never seen or did it myself, anyone use a power hose to rinse off stripper...
@AskingSpot Жыл бұрын
Smart strip is my favorite stripper as it cleans off with water and is low odor. Normally, I would scrap then rinse but in Florida we were having a heatwave at the time (that part was filmed at the end of July) sprayed it for speed but left more to sand that way😆 Hmm, but then again I’ve power hosed wood before. But only when I’m ready to wipe it dry quickly and it’s a sunny day.

Nice job removing that veneer! And facing your greatest fear. You managed your reaction very well. Isn’t it nice when death & destruction don’t come?
@AskingSpot Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I guess knowing that a charity would be impacted by how well I did and that it had survived more than 100 years it all stressed me out. Ants are a whole other thing🥴 ever since my first apartment would mysteriously get mounds of dead ones and then living in Louisiana with fire ants. 😵💫😁

I Love to watch your channel! You are a breath of fresh air😍 I didn’t understand why you didn’t take the knobs off first thing, instead of making it hard on yourself, working around them. 😁 The only other observation was, instead of painting the veneer SPOTS that were only on one side, maybe could have taped off the edges on both sides and used the rub & buff or even paint a strip. ??? It really did turn out lovely and you learned a BUNCH❣️
