Self teaching Inventor for work....I stumbled my way thru this prior to watching, but your video helps make it all make sense. Thanks for the informative and candid tutorials!

This is dry material, but so important to understand and you've done a great job explaining the basics of a very tedious and confusing topic. Well done mate. Folks take note, make sure you copy your design data folder, and template folder as shown in the video, and point your project file to the new location....then have at it.

Neil only you can make this sort of thing understandable and entertaining! You have a rare gift for explaining the difficult to explain! Keep up with the dry and boring because you cover things no one else will dare to deal with...ie Vault, Styles Manager, etc......

Neil, watched this one a few times. Completed all steps just like video. In one project I saved the styles edits. In a different project that uses the same standard with a few more styles edits, I also completed the styles edits save. Then when I went back to the first project I received the styles error message upon starting a new drawing. I assume it has to do with the standard that is referencing the edits, no? If so, how/where does this get saved to the project?
@kimprojects57476 жыл бұрын
Neil. thanks for the video. But what is the file name that inventor use as "standard" so it always override that? is that all the XML files that we can see under "design data" folder?

If you just changed the settings for a single file, but did not save as a new style? Do this: 1.) Open the old drawing file with the "all the settings" 2.) Do a save-as of that drawing file. 3.) Delete all the stuff on that drawing and use it as a template for the next drawing. Why do this? What if you "don't have the rights" to create a new style, because of vault issues or the I.T. or Vault Admin restricted that capability. Happens all the time. Almost forgot last thing to do: 4.) Save a copy of that drawing file or template on your local drive. If the vault admin ever opens your file or "batch processes" all the drawings to "update to a new style/standard" your settings will be all wiped out.
@biplabdey79942 жыл бұрын
Thank you so very much. This is exactly what I need to know. But I have faced a problem, the custom title block not getting updated. I mean to say I want to change the title block with a new title block of old drawings. but this is not happening in that way. so this is my humble request if you guide me.
@timanderson23517 жыл бұрын
Just watched your video, already answering questions that I've had, but one question, as a manager of 6 people, what would be different? Implementation with Vault? Thanks for your videos from Canada.

In a drawing how do you set up the dimensions from your parts to the bill of material, so if you change the sizes in the parts it will automatically update in the bill of materials. So a cutting sheet can be made from the bill of material.

Informative and funny video man. the only thing is that you forgot to show how to change the default styles for dimensions and the like. You have to go into styles editor from your drawing template and then open 'Object Defaults'. From there you can specify say a new dimension style you've created for each type - e.g. linear dimension = 'My Version of ISO Default' or whatever you've called your new dimension style. Without doing this you just get frustrated.
