lol power washing and then starting to crank on it. They could have problems starting even when new after that. At least cover ignition system while washing the bike.

This is a great video for sure. Love barn finds. I have a few comments on restoring old bikes as I have done many myself including a 1970 CT70 or Trail 70. A couple things, ALWAYS look at the carb first on any old bike. The pilot jet and main jet are likely clogged (seen this so many times) and rebuild kits are readily available that way you can retain the original OEM carb. Next, a CT will run without the battery. Battery is there for lighting so that it works when the engine is off. The ignition and primary electricity for battery charging come from the stator. Lastly, when you are attempting to start something with starting fluid (last resort in my opinion), it will rev to the moon based on the fact that it is not gasoline and the mixture of the air is causing the over rev. If it stalls right away, as it did, points directly to a carb issue because you obviously have spark. Happy to consult with you guys as I love this stuff :-) Best of luck.

Odd. I've never seen one have any spark at all without a hot battery. I'll bet If I go out and disconnect my battery there will be no spark....

I remember riding on the back of one of these that my grandpa had. He died in 1969, so it had to be older than that. Always think of him when I see one of these. Now you need to compare it to one of the new Trail 125 models.

Alex, Kase, Tommy, Dave and his friend was just awesome! I love seeing the younger TLF team members take on new challenges. I love the OG's Roman, Nathan & Andre: but they are limited to car reviews, light work, don't really like getting their hands dirty , and fixing stuff them-self. Also great seeing Tommy do reviews with his peers who are more mechanically inclined, and eager to bring something new to the channel. thanks Tommy NJ

On the tip of the exhaust there is a bolt that holds the spark arrestor in remove the spark arrestor and put a rag in the end of the muffler, leaving the Bold out. Now start to bike let warm and then bring up the RPMs off and on several times to empty the carbon build up inside of the muffler. It will blow out the bolt-hole. I learn this with my 1973 ct90 from the manual. It does work and it helps. There is also a push-pull black knob on the carburetor for high-altitude/Air.

Hmm. I kinda like seeing the younger generation step up, and not have to rely on The OG's Roman, Nathan & Andre. I been watching them from day 1 before Andre spoke English; they don't really get to dirty they like talking more, and Tommy usually heads the fixing stuff. Alex, Tommy, Kase & Dave have bought something new with Gun Smoke, Yacking and Biking; this will also appeal to new viewers. to much of the same can become boring sometimes, I like the diversity with Kase & Alex; It'll be nice to see someone of Color or a female added to the TFL team now that they are starting to think outside the box. thx Tommy NJ

Original replacement carbs. etc., for '68 Trail 90's ( KO's) are hard to find for some reason. Some Chinese carbs sold as replacements for '68's don't fit. Carb overhaul kits are scarce but available.

Pull the carb out and then soak the entire assembly in a carb cleaner soak can. Clogged jets are common but the plenum (which is like a lung) needs to be pliable and I'll bet what you have is hard as a rock. Get the carb rebuild kit and after a good cleaning and some new parts it should work fine. Also, you are very very lucky to be in Colorado with the dry climate. If that bike was anywhere east of the Missouri River it would be rusted scrap metal.

I didn’t check to see the progress, but the way it revved is usually indicative of the slide being installed backwards 180 degrees
@normannicholson4523
@normannicholson4523 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if someone else suggested this, but if the throttle doesn't appear to cause any change to the idle, you have have reinserted the throttle slide incorrectly. It can be rotated 180 degrees and wont slide shut if you have it in the wrong way. Just something that happened to me. The slide stays open and the bike runs full throttle.

"we may have some bigger carb issues at hand". What? You think after 30-40 years sitting? That should have been the first place you looked as soon as the fuel was pouring out of it!... The pilot jets and float valves are sure to be blocked as well as all the rubber seals crumbling away to dust....

Here’s a better idea. Buy one of those Chinese 125 clones. Buy a clutch perch, and have a dependable mount. Points, ancient leaking carbs and fuel valves…weak wimpy 6 volt systems. Put all that crap in a box for the next owner. Check out minibike mike on YT….he does swaps and shows you how to wire them. A lot more fun with 8hp….than 5
