So the naked bike feels more like a sport bike and the scrambler feels more like a dirt bike. Imagine that. Now compare a Honda Goldwing with a Yamaha TW200.

Looks, Indian. Height practicality for me, Triumph. Quality of the bikes, Triumph. Based off your comfort compare, Indian. Bottom line, if I HAD to choose 1 to ride, I reckon I would have to go with the Triumph merely because of seat height. lol.

One of the first things most do with any bike is fit an after market exhaust. The FTR with a cat delete and decent exhaust system sounds incredible. (I don't like the Akras on this),

hell NO...you can't compare these two!! These two bikes are completely different, with different purposes!! They are in different categories, with this Indian you could compare the Speed Twin or the R Nine T Roadster, not a Scrambler!! Keep up the good work (but you need to do your homework better)

For price (anywhere except the US) engine capacity, chassis purpose etc. The Triumph 1200RS would be a very good machine to put alongside the Indian

They compared because of same price and engine size? And then ignore engine type and output. At the very least they should have used the FTR Rally if comparing with a scrambler.

Apples to oranges. The ftr was further geared toward the street by Indian compared to the first model year. The triumph was geared toward off road capability hence scrambler model

I've ridden both bikes and they are great. They're different in their purpose, one naked street the other is a bike designed to be taken off road occasionally. The Indian FTR-S is NOT intended to ever be off road. I liked the Triumph better it let me be more stretched out and upright. It was better over rough roads around my home. I would have a hard time choosing between the two. But that being said, one of them will be my next bike. IF a Triumph 1200 Scrambler, I would opt for the EX in Cobalt Blue. If the indian, I would upgrade to the FTR Carbon.

If you’re a fan of the Triumph Scrambler, read Forgotten Road by Randall Arthur. The whole last half of the book highlights the Scrambler in numerous, fantastic adventures. The book is a work of fiction, but supposedly the adventures in the book are all based on Arthur’s real-life experiences. Randall Arthur is the author of the bestselling novel Wisdom Hunter. On a side note, Forgotten Road is a faith-based novel.

Can you explain: What is "wheelie control" on the Indian? Every reason to expect a different handling between bikes. Triumph higher seat, wheel set, rider position, twin parallel motor, equals higher center of gravity! "Old school design". Both bikes are nice. Price and equal motor size are the only similar things to compare.
@JohnSmith-zi9or
@JohnSmith-zi9or 2 жыл бұрын
From the FTR 1200s 2019 manual (Alex's bike might vary) ... Wheelie Mitigation is a feature that allows maximum acceleration while keeping the front wheel on or near the ground. The feature is active when the vehicle is in Rain or Standard ride modes, but not when the vehicle is in Sport mode or the ABS/MTC system is disable. Note: The wheelie mitigation feature cannot prevent the front wheel from losing contact with the ground in all situations.

FTR all day. If I was going to get a Triumph, I’d go with the Speed Twin or Bonneville 120. But probably the 22/23 Speed Twin. But the FTR is comfier, the tech is better, the handling is better, and the power is substantial. Also, aesthetics wise, Indian CRUSHED it with the FTR. My next bike is an FTR unless I can find a Speed Twin for a great deal

I am a long time rider of 71 years old who is 5' 10" tall but with a 29" inseam .. That said I love Triumphs . My riding style is mostly nice bumpy back roads with no traffic here in North Western Connecticut .. Of these two if one was given to me I think I would still go for the Indian because of my leg but with the dirtier tires . It needs a bigger tank and more suspention though. I would probably trade it in on a V7 Guzzi of a R Nine T :) for the shaft drive ... (I am tired of chain work on my 2017 Street Scrambler) . :)

Nice review. Touched on a lot of areas. I'll be getting the 2023 FTR Carbon next month. I considered the FTR Rally for some off roading but decided my use would be much more on the street, hence the Carbon. Apparently, the clutch factor you mentioned will be improved with the 2023 versions.

The Triumph XE has a longer wheelbase and 2” longer shock and would be a better comparison. I was on one this week and it is a very nice bike. Looks wise the trophy goes to the Triumph. Old school Steve McQueen look. IMHO
@derekyoung4859

The longer wheelbase of the XE would have slower handling compared to the XC. Since they already had the opinion that the XC was a bit slow and unwilling to corner, I think the XE would perform worse comparatively.

I love both of these bikes... I have owned several Triumphs in the past and loved them all... but I ended up on the FTR BUT I bought the older version the 2020 Carbon... which perhaps is a bit closer to the Triumph here than the 2022 Sport S because of its 19 inch front tire and semi knobbies... What tipped the scales for me was just pragmatics... I could get the FTR immediately but would have to wait for the Triumph... and there was a dealership near me but over an hour away for the Triumph... so I went with the FTR Carbon... which if I am being honest... I also like the look of a bit smidge better... especially the carbon version... though that bumped up the price considerably... I have had it for exactly a year now... and have no complaints...

i'm really disappointed you didn't touch on suspension travel. the suspension on the triumph is pure luxury compared to the indian, not that it's bad on the ftr. also bummed you didn't take both bikes out on the dirt where the triumph really comes alive on dirt roads compared to a dedicated road bike. love the channel but this comparison was a number from a guy who owned both

@@mosgor I know, my post was an attempt at a little construction criticism. The scrambler handles way more "than a little dirt." Bummed they didn't explore everything that bike had to offer. The FTR is a great bike tho, and the suspension is rad on street and rally versions. Just hate it when people don't review everything a bike can do, but I was entertained anyway so no big

I agree - completely in keeping with the flat track pedigree. Problem being, it really is form over function. It juts out, meaning you have to alter your riding position, it's excessively hot and is saps bhp - (even though this bike is all about torque). I have the Toce low mount on mine with the Lloydz tune - arguably the optimum set up.

The scram has 81 ft lbs of torque and the Indian has 87 ft lbs. so the Indian still has more torque. But the peak torque for the scram hits about 1500 rpms lower which is a big deal and more preferable IMO. I own a 1200 scram XE and wouldn’t trade it for the world

The problem for FTR is that the Triumph 1200 platform is better sorted / more reliable / longer production feedback / huge bike line-up. Indian has dipped their toes into their own 1200 platform with only one bike so far, although a promising start.
