When I was doing research before buying my 2008, I was told I would get 30 mpg on the highway and I thought that was ridiculous for a 436 hp car. My first drive in it was from Edmonton, Alberta to Ottawa, Ontario and it turned out to be true. Nobody buys a Corvette to save gas (and in town you won't) but it is a nice bonus. And those gas pump barrier things are maddening as they are perfectly placed to harm your door! The other positive feature for long trips is the amount of storage space in a C6. Nice video!

@@MetaView7 I had some issues as the GM dealership in Alberta had not transferred ownership from the original owner to itself but was able to do so when I called. The other issue was that the car was sold on a Bill of Sale from the dealership and my local licensing office was not familiar with this but they asked managers and it was fine. This was eight years ago so I don't know if procedures have changed. I got a temporary paper license from Alberta authorities that was good for a week and I was supposed to drive straight east. Somehow my GPS took me to west to Jasper and Banff first!😉 It was a great trip, visiting those two towns, driving the Icefield Parkway, stopping at the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller. That's it Bacon, egg and cheese omelets for breakfast Bacon double cheeseburger with no bun... Eat two of them if you're hungry Dinner, steak and shrimp covered in clarified butter Diet food! The half a pound a day on this diet. The best part it fixes your insulin resistance... I stopped the diet 8 years ago. Haven't gained a single thing back And yes I eat like a normal person now. The reason we've all watched the 17-year-old kid, drink a milkshake and eat a bag of Cheetos and still have a six pack is because he didn't do it for 20 years Just like an alcoholic gets used to alcohol, people that eat a lot of carbohydrates to get used to insulin and you need more and more of it for your body to do the same thing Hence why so many people get type 2 diabetes. They destroy their insulin The keto diet fixes that, and that's how you lose weight, with your insulin repaired, now you can eat normal foods again and not be fat. Just like that 17-year-old kid

Back around 2007, the c6 z06 tied the 911 and F430 on the Top Gear track (look it up, top gear still has the c6 z06 episode on KZbin). Imagine that, a FRONT ENGINED, $70,000 c6 z06 Corvette that gets 30 mpg highway tied the TRACK time of $200k to $300k euro exotics back then.😁 Now, of course, GM did not make it all leather interior (I criticized them for not making it optional back then), true, so it has plasticy dashboard, but that could be added afterward if you wanted and STILL be way cheaper in price than the 911 or f430 back then. 😨

While weight is a factor in city driving, it makes almost no difference on the freeway. On the freeway, aerodynamics makes by far, the biggest difference. I'm not surprised you got that mileage on the freeway, owing to a transmission that reduced the RPM of the engine, and used a little more torque to hold speed, which reduces "pumping loss" in the throttled gasoline engine. A big engine turning slow has much better thermal efficiency, than a smaller engine with smaller cylinders, operating at higher RPM. That corvette gets better mileage than a lot of motorcycles, just because of the swept volume of the cylinders, and reduced RPM at cruise speed.

Yup the LT, then LS’s with the 6 speed got some amazing mpgs. The autos weren’t terrible, but being rear end ratio and transmission gear limited. I have a 2000 z28 with 3.23 gears stock, and before I modified it I got a solid 25 mpg on the highway. Oh and fyi it was rated at 23mpg. These LSX motors are incredibly fuel efficient given the right fuel and “mild” driving 😉. Now that same z28 with a “medium” sized cam, stalling torque converter, and 3.73 gears ( Full weight ) still gets 22-23 mpg. Plus I love to hear that amazing cammed full exhaust sound…

Owned a 02 Firebird, and regularly got 32mpg. The real secret is 3.08 gears in the rear. Keeps the revs nice and low for cruising. As soon as you jump up to 3.73 or 4.11, yes the car gets way faster but also the mpg drops like an anchor.

For reference: I get 22.6 mpg with a Mazda RX-8 on long german Autobahn trips. So 30 mpg for the Corvette is real impressing. The engine seems to have a low inner resistance and does not suffer under low load inefficiency.
@vincentrobinette1507
@vincentrobinette1507 10 ай бұрын
Actually, the Corvette gets this mileage because the engine IS under load! The high gearing, which lowers the RPM of the engine keeps the torque up, negating the pumping losses by high manifold vacuum. Modern cars, like the Toyota Prius, get their good mileage on the freeway, because they maintain low manifold vacuum. They adjust RPM to maintain the power needed to maintain speed, while keeping the throttle mostly open. Using the high gearing offered by this transmission does a similar thing. You will find that your Mazda RX-8 runs much higher RPM.

I have an Audi A6 3.0t that will get 33 MPG on the highway at 75 mph. The car now has 146k miles on it, and over its life has averaged about 27 MPG combined. Not bad for a heavy luxury car with AWD and respectable performance numbers for the class. By comparison, my wife's 4-cylinder Jeep Renegade averages about 16 MPG, about the same as our old Toyota Sequoia. Get a small engine, it's better on gas...what a joke.

The 6th gear in the C4s was so tall, that you couldn’t - or shouldn’t- use it below about 65 mph. I’m sure the C6 ratios were similar. When a V8 spins that low of rpm at highway speeds, the throttle has to open more just to hold the highway speed, since the V8 engine isn’t really ”power” efficient at less than 2000 rpm. An open throttle and low rpm on a 2 valve engine that’s not working hard means mpg. This idea - back in the 90’s - told me that hybrid powertrains (work an engine slightly harder to drive the car - AND - to charge a battery) will work. Not necessarily a Corvette thing (hybrid powertrain), but look where we’ve come since - 55+ mpg Prius, and the like. And if you go full electric - even more efficiency!

That’s the same as cars that have optional v6 engines and 4 cyl base engines. I have a 2009 Toyota Venza with the 4 cylinder and if I had the v6 I’d get better highway mileage. The smaller motor has to put in more work to keep the highway speeds up, especially in hills or mountains. Driving the same route from IN to the AL gulf coast my Venza with a 6 speed auto averages about 24.5 but a 2000 Buick LeSabre with a 4 speed auto and the same driver and load got about 28.

People misunderstand big engines with low MPG. A big engine can accelerate effortless and have torque to keep cruising with low RPM without the need to revv and downshift, the only downside is that in stop and go traffic they can be as much as 20-30% less efficient due to the extra fuel it takes to power their self. But still if you burn 12 liters of fuel in a sh!tbox that barely moves and 2-3 extra liters in a Corvette, i find an absolute steal the fuel the sh!tbox burns and not the Corvette. I daily drive a '98 1.4 Daewoo Lanos and i need 12-13 liters per 100 kilometers or 18MPG city, and 30MPG highway. To maintain 100km - 60 miles with the slightest hill i need to shift to 4th revv the crap out of it and shift to 5th half a minute later, not to mention not having the ability to overtake etc. Same goes to more modern cars, you might get an 1.0 Turbo that seems powerful but to move yourself in real world conditions it's far from economic and you actually feel helpless in an open road, while a Corvette doesn't show a drop of sweat and if you chill and drive it like these guys here its fuel consumption is actually a BARGAIN over crap cars that go by the name "cheap to run".
