Guys! With the 3000GT, you are testing a 25 year old car, based on a 32 year old design. Technically an antique! It's bound to have some wear such as the sloppy shifter. I agree the base model was just for the looks. I had a 91 VR-4 and then a 95 VR-4 both fantastic state of the art, reasonably reliable and quality cars for the time. Plus the VR-4 was an incredible performance bargain, especially the 91. All the performance of an NSX at 1/2 the price. Add to that the all season capability with the AWD. PS it was 2+ years ahead of the Mark 4 Supra. Although the Supra did eclipse the performance by a bit and was much bigger in the aftermarket, I still went for the 95 VR-4 at the time.

@@conroypawgmail the Spyder was really cool. But it added weight, complexity, and $$$ to the car. Interesting how it was gen 2 of folding hardtops. Late 50s Ford & early 60s TBird, then the Spyder, and then the Z4, BMW 3 series and other cars of the early 2010’s made it popular for a while.

Mitsubishi is knocked for reliability quite often but I think it is undeserved. Some of their cars are junkers, but overall I think they make quality. My 2002 Mitsubishi is less than 300 miles away from 250k miles and shifts like day one. The engine is still in great shape too. It has needed some work as it aged, but it is cheap and easy to repair and has overall been a very dependable car.

I had a 94 3000gt SL manual in the same red. Official specs on it we're 0-60 in 5.9 seconds from c/d. The car was lightweight and quick for 225 hp. The materials were high quality on the interior for the time. No hard plastics anywhere and the stereo was amazing. The exhaust was insane, with more flex pipe than some supercars of the era. All around a great car that i regretted parting with. Everyone that i let drive that car thought i had added a turbo because it was so torquey off the line.0

As someone who’s part of the 3000gt owners club, I can confirm that we do not appreciate the hate on our cars lol😝 I actually have a 1993 base model and I’d like to clear something up. The vr4 was the performance trim and was very much a sports car where as the lower trims only had the appearance of a sports car but were more grand touring cars at heart (hence the GT in 3000gt lol). You need to have the right expectations with this car otherwise you’ll be disappointed. If you’re looking for something performance oriented then the vr4 is the one to have as it definitely won’t disappoint. That thing is as quick as my previous supercharged jag that had over 500 hp, for a 90s car that’s insane! The other two trims are for someone like me that doesn’t prefer a manual but loves the looks and nostalgia of the car, and you get a comfortable gt car that you can enjoy cruising around in and it still turns heads. Your comment about them being ugly is just crazy to me but to each their own🤷🏻‍♀️ although I will say, the first gen is the best looking imo! Can’t beat pop up headlights😜 P.S. my shifter wiggles too, the bushings are just worn. I mean it’s a 30 year old car, comes with the territory!🤣

I have a first gen Leaf 24kWh. Rubbish remaining range... 40ish miles. Bought a used 30kWh battery for $2000 which returned it to the original 24kWh range of 80ish miles. I used a system invented by a Leaf guru on youTube, called Dala, that cost less than $20 and then $200 for my local EV shop to do the work. My car is low mileage and 13years old, and now as 'good as new', which might not seem much initially but kind of is a big deal. Leafs are astonishingly reliable mechanically, so cost next to nothing to own either to 'fuel' or maintain. Perfect for town use, as that's where poor modern-day range makes least difference. Buy a good one without damage or shonky electrics, then budget another $2500 to do a battery upgrade if needs be. Then just keep it and use it. Maintenance consists of checking your tyres, topping up the washer-bottle and an annual check over... and that's it.

The Holden version of the Aveo, the Barina Spark is the biggest piece of garbage. Every used one I've seen (usually helping friends buy cars) was trying to blow all the engine seals off. One shot the oil filler cap across the car yard. My Neighbor had one and tried to top the oil up while it was running. The blow-by wouldn't let the oil go in the filler. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

I love my 2013 Leaf. It still has 80 miles of range and makes a great commuter car if you live in an area with a mild climate. But I agree it didn’t help the public perception of EVs. Edit: Don’t buy a 2011 or 2012, those batteries were the worst.

You mean the eclipse looks like the 3000GT because it came out a year before the eclipse. These cars were ahead of there time with some of the firsts in the car market. Also this car had just as good of quality as there counterparts. Mocking out a 25 year old car for minor things makes you sound dumb. If it was a couple years old ok but again this is a 25 plus year old car.

Bought brand new 05 Aveo for a commuter scooter for $8,900. I am 6'4" and had loads of head and leg room. Had factory air added. Fun car to drive. But as a replacement for the Geo Metro mpg at 35 gallons a little disappointing. Also it did not have antilock brakes as I discovered the hard way as traffic on my commute came to and abrupt stop one day and I was forced onto the shoulder fighting to keep it straight. Build quality wasn't bad for a car at that price point. The safety arguement for it being a bad car is lame because no one who held safety at a high priority could ever reasoably expect it to be safe at that size and price point. Ended up trading it in for another vehicle 2 years later to avoid 2 car payments but I would otherwise have kept it.

Limited range wasn't the problem. When it came out, nobody knew if Americans would demand 100 miles or 300 miles or 600 miles of range. It was a totally reasonable guess, trading miles for purchase price in a basic commuter car. If it didn't sell, the discount to move a 30k$ EV was going to be way less than a 80k experiment. The real problem, as you pointed to, was Nissan didn't yet understand battery health and how to maintain it, and the cars lost range over a number of years that was far short of your average vehicle lifespan. So the early cars are basically selling with a negative value on the battery now! Too bad cause I think as a "0.5x car" for school and mall runs it's perfect.

That was fun! I have read that the Leaf and the BMW i3 have the worst depreciation rates of any cars. If it is true that battery replacement costs are falling then maybe this will turn around but I am sure that the $35000 replacement costs for the Chevy Volt (and the invoice estimate was proof) will continue to scare off people as the electric cars are seen as disposable as cellphones after a decade.

@@Sprocketboy1956 They dropped hard for a few reasons, the average BMW person wants nothing to do with an “electric city car”. It was a hard sell to that customer base, then add the weird square looks and skinny tires, then add the the high price and nobody was buying it. They languished on lots and you could even lease them in Georgia for $99/month for a year or two with all the incentives staying with BMW. Now that awareness has grown, people realize BMW actually engineered a great car with a lot of good tech and safety into it. The structure is almost all a carbon fiber composite blend and the battery is excellent for longevity. Bravo to those who recognize it’s now a great car at the right price.
