Because NACS was a proposal, not a standard. The actual standard is SAE J3400, which is based on CCS, so the automakers are effectively already using "NACS." The disconnect for a lot of folk is that having J3400 does not automatically mean you have access to the Supercharger Network, which is currently the only network that is primarily offering J3400 plugs. If you're in an EV that does have Supercharger access, you're just as well off having a J3400 to CCS1 adapter.

I'm pretty old and still remember gas stations being much fewer and farther between, and remember waiting in long lines, most of the day, in the early '70's, to fill up gas, and remember gas stations were all pretty tiny, with no convenient stores. EV stations will get better and far more of them, in the very near future.
@eganfo14 сағат бұрын

Absolutely. In Norway we have a well developed charging infrastructure and there is hardly a gas station or a parking garage/lot without charging options. I street park my EV in downtown Oslo and there are plenty of dedicated parking for EVs where the city has put up over night charging posts just like the old parking meters we used to have. And also, they all work. So charging is easy. Over here destination charging is becoming a thing, you don't go to a gas or charging station to fill up, you just charge your car at the park if you are going for a walk or at the supermarket while you shop etc. And you only need that if you haven't charged at home. Our infrastructure sucked too five years ago, but once there are more and more EVs, there will be a rush to build EV chargers. Gas stations owners suddenly realize they are losing customers who have switched to EVs and EV customers are the perfect customer, they go in an spend money in the store too and that is where the money is to be made.

I find it disturbing that Americans are choosing the "gas lines" of the 70's by purchasing an EV. Waiting in line for fuel for hours is ridiculous. I bought a Jeep Wrangler 4xe which is a plug-in hybrid. It has an abysmal electric range of about 20 miles and when in hybrid mode, offers nearly identical fuel mileage as the standard ICE motor. The dealer was off-loading the 4xe models for $20k off MSRP. I bought one just because I liked the color, the options, and the 500 ft lbs of torque was hard to resist for less money than a normal ICE Wrangler. The girls are great and have great comments. I would marry either one, lol. They are fun to watch and come across as real, unscripted, and lovable. More please!

If I was planning to go to an Electrify America station, I would look at their app because it shows how many plugs are in use. They can’t show how many cars are waiting because they aren’t a manufacturer like Tesla that knows where all their cars are all the time, but if I see all the plugs are in use, I would look for alternatives in the area. The VW range estimator is based on the efficiency at the moment based on the previous 30 miles of driving. If you are getting 4.2 miles per kWh and go over a mountain pass and the temperature drops 50 degrees, your mileage will vary. I can get 4.2m/kWh going 50-60mph and then speed up to 75mph and the efficiency drops to 3.4m/kWh along with the range estimate

Thanks making the video! It's always nice to see the girls do their own thing too. I didn't finish Roman's video yet. 😅 I did however noticed a couple of things when it came to your charging. You went to charge for the first time too soon. Why not just go to the 2nd charger spot to begin with since you still had the range to do so? Was it be because you didn't know about it? This is why apps like ABRP are needed on road trips. Also you could've used the EA app to plan things out better as well. Also only charge to 80% if possible especially if there is a line. I noticed that you guys charged to 88% or over on the way home only to get there with 40% or so. Imo you should only charge enough to get home with 10% instead. You could then charge to 80% overnight at a much cheaper rate. I would avoid DCFCing as much as possible even if it's free. I got an EV in the first place to not go out to charge when I'm at home so.

For all those pushing EV’s, saying charging is no big deal. Just charge it at home they say. Half of peps rent; another group doesn’t want to spend a fortune on at home charging; and it does no good on road trip. If you commute back and forth to work, have a home charger, and a backup ICE vehicle for road trips, good on you.

Like the positive energy in the video. Good chemistry between the ladies.

Nice and fun video, next time should be longer. 😃 Is ID Buzz preconditioning the battery before arrival automatically or it needs to set it on in the menu? Range could be more than enough IF...IF... every charging station work every 150+ miles. Another point is: arrival SOC should be low enough and safe, like 6-8% to get an appropriate charge curve to charge quick. Just saying...

My thing about waiting for charger at public charging place can probably be tricky. I guess you just have to be considerate and aware because how does anyone really know who gets the next open charger?? Maybe there needs to be parking spots like in a row that's numbered or something...

Mary and Jen both doing a great job and are excellent presenters . Keep it up ladies . On a side note I wonder how the battery range will suffice if the bus is loaded with passengers . Maybe a followup video with 6 passengers or 2 passengers and added weight of average male 150 lbs in 2nd row each seat and average kid weight in 3rd row 50 pounds each seat .

All those stops for a ~200 mile total trip? My time is more valuable than that.

Yeah that seems a bit much. My Bolt EV would maybe need to stop to charge for a few minutes once.

That’s why IONIQ 5 are so popular. 20 minutes max

@@doublebackagain4311 If you're time is valuable you take a train or plane. Also you charge overnight, drive a couple of hours, have a coffee break at a charger then at lunch go for 80%. Every day of my working life I've taken lunch and coffee. You must be some hard working son of a gun.🤣

I’ve mastered the skill of drinking coffee while I drive, so EV’s are not for me. I can understand that those who haven’t acquired that skill would benefit from EVs.

I enjoyed the video, the presenters obviously have great on-camera personalities, but at the end of it, I'm not sure I have a good sense of how much time was spent charging and/or looking for charging during the course of this road trip. How many miles traveled? Also where was this road trip? A loop in Colorado? How did the car get from O'hare airport in Rosemont, IL to Colorado?
@gqami14 сағат бұрын
I think EV’s are to make sure people visit restaurants and food stores because you have to wait hours to charge. 😂Great video ladies. 👍🏼

If you’re thinking about getting an electric car, I’d highly recommend a Tesla. I don’t think anyone should buy a non-Tesla EV until the charging infrastructure, especially the CCS standard, catches up with Tesla’s charger liability. You are more than welcome to agree or disagree.

Yea, plus you can lease a Model Y for $299 a month for 36 months currently (+2999 down). The ID Buzz does look cool though 🤙 I’d like to se an ID Bug.

Did we miss the part about how the Buzz was transferred from Illinois to Colorado? Did they truck it in? Honestly, would not be surprised if it were the case; otherwise the trip would take days...

Yeah. It’s a 1,000 miles from Chicago to Denver. The 500 miles from PA to Chicago was 13 or 16 hours, forgot which one. The second leg was exactly twice as long so potentially 26 or more hours, at least two days driving.

Really love this vehicle. Wish they could have put a ton of power and a bigger battery. Almost there. Unfortunately it will take them another 10 years to get it right and they will be out of biz in less than 3!

Great Video, I love the design of the Buzz, but as with any other EV there is still way too much Range Anxiety. Until the Charger Infrastructure catches up I wouldn't consider an EV if I would be taking Road Trips. I would however look at Hybrids.

Imagine doing a high five at a gas station because gasoline is available (I can't either). Until charging infrastructure is brought up to standards, they should call it the BUZZ KILL.
