It doesn't take rocket science to figure out this deal. The Fed EV rebate and the State EV rebate combined = $15000 which covers the 27 monthly lease payments. Not sure why it would take a dealer 4 hours to get this deal done, but if your credit is strong enough, you could probably do the deal over the phone/internet. Wait for the dealer to get all of the needed approvals and then come in to sign the papers and pay the sales tax and be in and out in 30 minutes. Now $15000 divided by 27 payments would normally come out to $555.56/month so that's a hell of a savings. The car itself sells for $34095...that's why they need the buyer to have a credit score over 700. It's not like the car has no value. They want to make sure the buyer is responsible so they get the car back in one piece at the end of the lease term.

It's not the way the dealership works. The finance manager is not going to miss the opportunity to go through his sales pitch for every profit opportunity and explain to you how stupid you are to pass up that "deal" at only $25 more per month.
@directpage2008
@directpage2008 Ай бұрын
@@foxtrotwolf6081 This depends on how intelligent the customer is. I tell the sales consultant while on the phone that I do not want ANY additional add-ons and I list the products and services that I know they are going to try to offer. I then repeat, "do you understand". They now know they are dealing with a seasoned buyer and they won't waste my time or theirs. My record is 20 minutes in and out with the car keys. The dealership was one of the largest dealers for the autos that they sell and I was a repeat buyer so they knew the procedure very well. When I showed up, they had all of the papers that I needed to sign layed out on the desk in an organized fashion. Signing took 15 minutes.

Second, they said they had 30 of them, yet didn't show us a single one, and only offered the gas version for the test drive. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced at a car dealership. Our salesman had basically never even seen a Hornet and didn't know anything about them. We waited for hours. Here’s the dealio: The Denver Metro Area is categorized as what is known as a “non-attainment area” according to the EPA in regards to air pollution. The State of Colorado is required to bring the areas into attainment under the Clean Air Act. In order to do this, the State is providing tax credits to consumers that purchase electric vehicles; this together pairs with the federal tax credits but regardless this is mainly a State program. Long story short, our tax dollars to the State are funding this program in order to reduce air pollution. The dealers make money by pocketing the tax credits (rather than the consumer) and will come out on top since each vehicle is absurdly cheap to manufacture. At the end of the lease, the dealers will still have cars to sell recouping capital investment and will be able to charge fees for misuse, damage, or excessive mileage. So the dealer gets ~10k ish (or whatever) in tax credits, keeps the vehicle to resell after three years (or whatever), you get a electric vehicle to try out, Colorado (specifically the Denver Metro Area) gets cleaner air, and there is a new demand for the creation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The downside is of course that this is paid for using tax dollars to the State. It’s not a free lunch, but for the majority of people who need a car it definitely is. Downside is though that $180 per month for insurance is still very expensive for the average person so this program is likely best reserved for upper middle class customers that would like to try out an EV and all or their quirks and features. Probably not the best for an apartment dweller who can’t plug it in, can’t afford the $1.3k taxes plus registration costs, or can’t afford the $180 per month insurance (which is likely required for terms of the lease).

The problem with only selling large expensive vehicles is that manufacturers are thinning out their future customer base because young people can’t afford new wheels. If only stellantis used their head and sold the Jeep Avenger and the Opel Frontera (rebadged as a Ram or dodge maybe) in the states. But if the MSRP is low enough (under $35,000 excluding destination/delivery), then an additional $2,500 credit is available to the purchaser. That’s why Larry H. Miller is ordering so many 500Es of the same spec: they all have the same MSRP of $34,095. Any options or any higher a trim, and the deal loses $2,500 of Colorado state tax credit. Good for Larry H. It's pretty simple. Dealer is keeping the $12,500 rebate. While it's a good deal ,it's just moving numbers around. The numbers won't pencil to buy out after two years ,so the $395 is just added to dealer profit. Take the $7,500 fed credit ,add the Colorado $5,000 credit ,they are just buying down the cap cost.The residual is close to $18K . Adding 150 mile range doesn't help. If a 150 mile range tiny electric car is exactly what you want ,this is a good deal. The reason these deals are available has to do with how dead sales are for this class of vehicle. Think Nissan Leaf

A couple folks have commented about the residual value of the car. To expand on theirs, and frame it into a time value of money calculation, the term is 27 months - the rate is unknown but probably less than prime financing rates through stellantis- the present value is around $19k - the payment near $0(maybe the dealer is making the “deal” here - this makes the future value near $20k. All this means is the dealer is expecting to be able to sell the returned lease vehicles for more than $20k in 27 months and taking advantage of short term incentives from the MFG and tax credits.

After visiting several places for these specific incentives it's completely worth getting these cars on lease even if you intend to buy. The financer qualifies for 100% of all the tax credits (which not every customer does) and so you're getting up to $17,000 off the price of the car, so at the end of your lease you're a able to buy the car for about $15,000. Actually there's no early payoff penalties so you could walk in the next day and buy the Fiat for almost half the MSRP.

All these old dudes crying about a Fiat. Its an EV. No engine for "Tony to fix again" LOL. I live in KC and my next door neighbor has one of these; he said he bought it used at 2 years old for like $10K or something and for him the small range is no issue. He said in the Missouri winters at 10 degrees it only goes like 70 miles on a charge, but again he just keeps it plugged in at home and its no biggie. I always said I'd only get an EV when they are free, and it looks like we are finally getting there...

If a purchaser does not pay at least $7,500 in Federal taxes throughout the year with their earned income, they will have to pay that credit back to the Government. Just as with any tax credit. The purchaser pays taxes and they then get some of it back in the form of a tax credit. I earned the money, I paid the taxes. Why shouldn't I get some of it back? A couple earning $299,000 in income might pay $60,000 in Federal taxes throughout the year. And then also owe high State and local property taxes. People who earn a lot of money, pay a lot more in taxes than the average person. Why shouldn't they get some of their hard earned money back? People who make low incomes pay low to little amounts in taxes. Why don't they work harder to make more money so that they could pay more in taxes to support the Government? Is it better that the Government gets to decide what to do with that $7,500 in taxes that I paid from my hard earned money? Should U get to decide what is done with the taxes that I paid from my hard earned income? If I didn't earn an income, or paid little to no taxes, the Government would get nothing.

Exactly. Paying tax money to subsidize about 89cents/$100 tax to oil companies is so much more effective than the tax rebate this state is offering which is getting them a small amount of sales tax. My taxes subsidizes gas in my car by 0c/ga... because gas prices are based on international gas market. At least these subsidies are end up on American hand. Welcome to the world of how you have been lied to.

I’d love an update on the lease terms. What’s the mileage allowed, what’s the buyout amount etc. These free or cheap lease deal videos seem to skip the paperwork which has the details I’m interested in. You could literally skip the talks with the sales people and just read the contact after it’s been signed and share it with the viewers.

The finance company is fronting the money for several months until the rebate checks go through. While it is a virtual guarantee that the government will pay, you legally owe $15k in the event that they don't. That's why you need a credit check.
@Cloud30000
@Cloud30000 Ай бұрын
Ah, no; you need a credit check because if you do not return the vehicle at the end of the lease, you are responsible for paying for the remaining value of the vehicle. That’s how all leases work, and why they all require credit checks even if you pay the entire lease up front in cash. In Colorado, the dealer is responsible for the incentive of the tax rebate fails, NOT the buyer.

LOL! It takes hours to buy, even with no lease and buying in cash. Probably took 3 hours to buy our new Sienna. Buying a used F150 on the other side of the country, it was down to 30-45 minutes. I had wired the money that morning, they picked us up at the airport with it, and then the dealer was down to 3-4 people there. This was Friday going into Memorial Day weekend, and they wanted out of there. No one was trying to sell me accessories, or window tinting, and they didn't even try hard on the extended warranty. Some other EVs out there have pretty good deals. Not a free lease, but a significantly discounted vehicle, where you would likely come out ahead. Toyota's all-electric looked to work out pretty well. And that was even without an extra boost from a state incentive like CO or CA.

Basically that dealership had a brilliant idea to move the first batch of those cars; because it’s a new electric car, the first 50k sold in the US (or something like that) come with a big cash back incentive from the government, to the tune of $7500 back, which equals about $310/mo over 24 months. Now most dealers would try to make extra money on top of that 7500 in the form of monthly payments, but this dealer ingeniously decided to try and secure some future customers instead.

But only 20,000 miles for the whole 27 months . Comes out to 740/month . 24miles/day. If you go over 20k miles at the end of your lease you pay extra. So???? That’s the catch too.

And with his insurance being $180/mo, assuming he doesn’t exceed 24 miles/day, that comes out to $0.25/mile for insurance alone. That’s crazy. I think it’s a cool video but tbh I wouldn’t drive one of these cars if it really was completely free.

I have a Fiat 500. I'm grateful that it's not an EV version because Fiat electrical systems have been troublesome for me and many other Fiat owners in the US. I found from exploring my wiring harnesses that much of the problem is the wiring itself. This is further complicated by having features that are absolutely unnecessary such as maintenance nagging that can cause the car to experience problems that wouldn't otherwise exist. If you do your own maintenance, be prepared to deal with complications. Seeing the electronic door release gave me premonition thoughts of preventable deaths due to being trapped in a flawed container with short circuits and flammable materials. I hope that Fiat has improved on their construction quality but you generally don't see businesses moving toward more costly production methods. Good luck with your.... well, your Fiat.

The key words a lot of people seem to be missing are Lease: you won't own it, at at some point you'll be required to return it. Taxes: you are still required to pay taxes on the MSRP value. Low mile usage: if you drive over a certain number of miles in a month you won't qualify, and they will get their money if you lie to them. This is basically the dealerships getting paid by the government to lend you an EV for a few years then they take them back as sell them as low milage used cars. The dealerships are making out like bandits on this.
