A B it’s a lease. I had a used old car as my first car that was paid off. Started to give me issues. It’s cheaper just to have a car in warranty now a days. Cars are disposable man. I wish they weren’t but they are. Constantly throwing money at an old used car is annoying as well too. Just going to lease from now on and always have a car in warranty.

you're right, you get more MPG in altitude, since less PaO2 (oxygen pressure) the engine is running rich, so it adjusts air fuel ration. I've got 26 MPG on my WRX which is unheard of in the mountains. I've since traded my 11' wrx for a GTI, and I absolutely love the GTI, it's not perfect, but very close indeed. does EVERYTHING well.

Just bought myself a DSG equipped GTI PP, pick it up in a week, along with a new puppy, not actually sure which one i am looking forward to the most! One thing i would say is. if you don't like the tyres, change them, Michelin Pilot Sport 3's or something of that ilk are relatively inexpensive tyres and offer plenty of traction, i have them on my TDI golf at the moment so a GTi with the low torque will be great, plus the LSD will work better.

I have a 2015 GTI 6 speed and it is the 5 GTI I have owned. I love my GTI and I spent a lot of time detailed and cleaning it so that it always looks new. TFLnow, you need to detail your car and particularly the engine bay, it looks like it is coated with road salt and quite dusty - a candidate for rusting in hidden places. I give my car a complete wash, wax and trim detail at least 10 times a year and people can't believe it is a 2015 in 2021. I have one of the last 2 doors in Canada and I plan to keep it for 20 years. My pet peeve is the climate control is too complicated when you're driving, it adds to the distractive driving problem. As far as gas mileage, I use cruise control a lot, so I get on the highway about 52 mpg (4.5L / 100km)and in the city about 36 mpg (6.5L / 100km) and 740 km or 460 miles on a full tank I only had one recall on the sunroof and that's it. If it really works, don't fix it! If you plan to buy a used GTI, get the 2016 + which has a crash detection radar in the front and your insurance should be substantially cheaper. Fantastic car, Volkswagen got this car so right and I hope they keep the "magic formula" in up coming model years!

@jjdayton

North American GTI has an $800 option called Lighting Package. This includes bi-xenon headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights. As well as “adaptive front lighting system”, headlights turn in correlation of steering. They also include halogen cornering lights. Which come on during low speed sharp corners.
@rafalg2113
@rafalg2113 6 жыл бұрын
I know it was an option and definitely one should that be checked even if you're on a tight budget. This design of headlights would be considered totally obsolete in Germany, where even the cheapest compact cars on the market come with projection headlights and LEDs.

Mike Utoober Yeah, I'd much rather have a 13 year old pile of junk that isn't nearly as nice, doesn't handle nearly as well, and is probably an electrical nightmare at this point in its life. Diesel is also 40 cents more expensive per gallon. If you drive 400 miles/week, which is a lot, you're going to save less than a cup of coffee every week with the diesel. Obviously your savings scale down from there the less you drive.

Nice review! I also have a 2015 GTI S that I love, I could seriously keep this car forever as a play toy, even as I get older and need other, roomier cars to accommodate a family. Agree about the mileage on longer trips. Similar to you, I once did a trip through the mountains here in Oregon and returned a staggering 42 mpg! Couldn't believe it, but seeing as how I regularly see numbers in the mid to high 30s on the freeway, I suppose that's legit. Regarding tires, have you since replaced the OEM rubber? If you're looking for a replacement set, I highly recommend the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s. I just threw a set on a few months ago and they've brought the car to life much more than I was expecting. Traction under hard acceleration in 1st and 2nd gears is dramatically improved, and lateral grip is far better as well. When thrown into a corner, the Pirellis were quick to give up and sort of scrabble along the tarmac while the chassis still felt like it had more to offer. The Firestones have ended that and now I've got seemingly endless grip. I can't wait until summer rolls around and I can test these out on a warm day with some proper temperatures in the pavement. Regarding the push start only offered from 2016, I'd honestly consider that a blessing. I look at it as one more electrical thing that can break, and my buddy with a 2012 Autobahn GTI has had starter issues twice. Keep it simple, I say. The only interior feature I sort of wish I had was a sunroof, but as you know, for the longest time you had to give up the awesome plaid seats to get that with the SE or Autobahn trim. I also missed out on the Performance Pack by buying a year too early, but I only wish I had the mechanical differential, not so much the extra 10 hp. All in all, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

@@circusofsix Oh yeah! I’ve since done a K&N drop-in, silicone intake hose, and a big-bore turbo inlet pipe. Highly recommend the turbo pipe, you’ll notice that the turbo spools up a little quicker. I have yet to get the car tuned, but I’m sure whenever I do, the engine will respond really well to all the extra air.
@b58.soupra

@@michaeleverson3801 did you ever get it tuned? and how has it treated you reliably wise? (regardless of if you’re tuned)
@michaeleverson3801
@michaeleverson3801 2 жыл бұрын
@@b58.soupra Never did get it flashed/tuned actually. My bolt-on mods were simple ones mentioned above; wider turbo inlet pipe, silicone intake hose, K&N drop-in, ripped out the snow guard. That's it! Those simple things improved the throttle response, as the turbo is a bit quicker to spool up and I probably picked up a handful of extra ponies as well. Was always reluctant to do a full tune because inevitably, you'd need a new clutch (get it when you do the tune, everyone says), and I just never felt like shelling out $2K for a tune, new clutch, plus labor. Still plenty quick though, a tune feels more like a WANT than a NEED, if that makes sense. Reliability-wise, she's treated me well! When I first got the car, I had a bad thermostat (common issue in early cars) and a bad rear main seal. Both of those were taken care of under warranty, so no big deal to me. One thing of concern is that lately, I've started to consume coolant at an alarming rate. I'm having to visit the dealer to top off every 2-3 months now, and that wasn't even during hotter months, so something to keep an eye on. I've heard that this could be related to water pump issues, which are common, so I'll see what they say when I go for my 40K mile service next month. Overall, it's been a pleasure to own and drive! I'm about due for new brake pads (gonna try sportier ones from Hawk), and I'll probably need tires before this coming winter. Other than that, she rolls on! Started changing my own oil too, which is kinda fun and more economical. Definitely recommend getting a fluid extractor so you don't have to get under the car!

Hate to burst the bubble, but every car under FULL ON sports comes with tires everyone changes out. If you curb GTI wheels on such a short vehicle, then perhaps you should venture into an Aveo or Spark? As technology advances and in order to keep with the competition, MYs will have features that the previous did not; it's part of the game. Model S is bottom of the rung bud.

The tires are an easy fix. The curbing of the rims might actually be the tire's fault. They may not protrude enough. Tire a Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec for terrible tires on a hot hatch.

Only 13,000 miles? You haven't even run her in yet! No way can you have a real opinion of a car with such low milage. My advice would be to get out and drive it far! Do at least 30,000 miles and then come back. Wait for proper faults and not little nagging things. I do 700miles a week! In a Golf GTi and it's an epic car.

13k miles in 2 years? you don't drive it much, do you? Any reliability issues? I love the cloth seats in this car. Unfortunately, the GTI can no longer be configured with certain options and the cloth seats. Great video, man! You're a natural in front of the camera. Keep it up! By the way, I like that TFL puts different people in front of the camera. You guys should talk to Emme about coming back to the show. It's sad to think that her larger-than-life attitude is being wasted behind some desk out in California. I know she's supposed to be with Cnet, yet I very rarely see her in videos.

Great review. I'm a MK6 GTI own. MK4 owner first.. I fell in love with the VW GTI and never looked back. Hope to own an MK2 at some point. Don't buy one if it's not a manual. Even a better, faster or over all superior automatic is the "IT"transmission..... Don't buy it.... Go for the stick.

Also you should be able to swap in the backup camera yourself! It might be a little bit of a pain but I’ve seen people swap them in to the MK6 and MK5’s.

I feel you about the infoentertainment system. God, had lots of bugs with it the first year. Those were fixed later....but I wish I jus had android auto. I agreed about those mags, my gf curbed all 4 arround, but the tires aren't that bad, i beat them up pretty good on the streets and I had no problems with under every weather conditions. You don't have a rooftop but I do, only other complaints are those rattles from the roof, they started showing up after about 25K on it)

When I had my mk7 GTI, it had the worst parasitic draw ever (from the battery). If you didn't drive the car for a week the battery would probably be dead and the car wouldn't start.

I watched both this video and the comparison with the 2018 GTI, and in both you have the same misconception about push button start in the 2016+ models. The S trim does not have push button start in any year mk7.0. I have a 2016 GTI S w/ DSG.

Bullet Tooth Tony Because a) It's a Volkswagen and they aren't known for reliability b) 27mpg is shit gas mileage c) Some people need more space d) Some people need more towing capacity d) some people need AWD or 4WD capability e) RWD cars do better skids f) it's a Volkswagen so it's over priced for what it is g) it's a Volkswagen and they cheat on emissions test.
