I thought magnesium and aluminum were close to the same because you have all these people talk about mag wheels or alloy wheels, well i keep looking that as aluminum lol. You are literally the only youtuber right now that teaches others how to do these magnificent work. I bet you are losing profit somehow, or you can get benefits because now customers see you outside and say "OH boy its TFS, hey man can you make me a exhaust, i've seen your work. I can trust you" I bet, in 5 years you'll have 1 million subscribers. You are way too underated. You teach step by step, others show a video but don't explain why they use their tools or so on so forth. I know its bottom line is to catch viewers and make a few extra bucks on KZbin and maybe make more $ by having more subscribers out in public notice their magnificent work. You literally gave out every info on how to fab stuff. People can literally just buy stuff and do this and not waste thousands on tools and on labor. Its awesome and i really wanted to learn how to weld. You've sir, have gone up and beyond, if everyone that makes how to's are positive 1's. you are at a 5. You are far ahead because nobody does this. People think if they do this it'll ruin everyone's business and lose work because normal old joe's will perform this same work.

If you haven't had the chance to try out stepped drill bits yet, they work great for thinner materials and will leave a nice bevel. I was't too sure about catch cans until i heard you recommend them. I just subscribed a few days ago and now it's my favorite channel, keep up the awesome work.
@TheFabricatorSeries
@TheFabricatorSeries 7 жыл бұрын
I do use them, but using them on this would make a really big hole through the baffle at the same time as opening up the port for the AN fitting. Since we need the baffle to still function as a baffle, we can't have a huge hole on the inside.
@jharris280zx
@jharris280zx 7 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking of using a narrow one to start the pilot hole since the regular bits are more fragile. I've broken a lot of smaller bits that I had intended to use for a pilot hole inside what i was drilling. Would adding a catch can benefit an old Chevy V8 400 small block ?
@TheFabricatorSeries
@TheFabricatorSeries 7 жыл бұрын
***** A catch can is not a power adder or anything that will make or break performance.in short time. In the long run, it will help keep the internals clean if you are currently recirculating the system to the intake.
@jharris280zx

Sorry I should have been more specific, my engine is carbureted and I've only seen catch cans on fuel injected engines. I was just wondering if this would mean less frequent rebuilds for the carburetor.

Only if you currently vent your crank case back in to the intake system. If you vent it to the atmosphere, it won't make a difference.

Awesome content in this video, thanks!!! As for your video production, it's getting so good you might as well get yourself a good lavalier mic setup like a Sennheiser or something, and get that last little bit of professionalism. I think it's worth it for you at this point. Mic proximity is king, so most of the shots sounded fine, but some like the conclusion sound noticeably less professional like some I've done where I had a good mic on the camera that was too far away from the sound source.
@TheFabricatorSeries

I've been working with a couple sound engineers for good audio quality, but the problem is microphones will get destroyed in this environment. I can't afford to buy a new one every couple episodes. I'm still trying to come up with a good solution. Thankks for your input!
@tptrsn
@tptrsn 8 жыл бұрын
The Fabrication Series Well, it's not like it's a big problem or anything, you are plenty audible. My suggestion was really only for those shots where there is some distance between you and the mic. It might not be worth messing with, but a cheap solution would be to run a lav from Aspen or someone into a Zoom H1 on your body. But then you'd have to sync in post... Maybe not worth the trouble!

There are also bulkhead style fittings if you can't weld or are worried about epoxy
@TheFabricatorSeries
@TheFabricatorSeries 8 жыл бұрын
This is another solution, but not one I typically use. the biggest reason is accessibility. More often than not, you'll have to remove baffling in order to install. Some bulkheads can also come loose with vibration and depending on the design, that could mean pieces of fitting can fall into the engine. It's not an incorrect solution, but one I do not use.

I'm going to be doing this to my valve cover very soon. question i have is about cleaning the valve cover itself. I have a sand blast cabinet. Would you advise not tossing it in there and blasting it? I'm afraid of missing some sand grains after I clean it and 1 of those little buggers could really do some damage. is there another preferred method of stripping the whole thing?
@TheFabricatorSeries
@TheFabricatorSeries 7 жыл бұрын
You can strip it completely and blast it without issue. Just make sure you clean it extremely well after blasting. A second option is to use very heavy tape (like Gorilla tape) to block off baffles and ports during blasting. Since you're only wanting to blast the surface, you shouldn't be aiming at the baffles and ports anyway. Make sure you do a very good cleaning again either way.

Can you please say a little more on routing the ventilation hose...where or to what should it be routed to?
@TheFabricatorSeries
@TheFabricatorSeries 8 жыл бұрын
Specific routing is vehicle dependent and there are thousands that I won't be able to specify. Most aftermarket or modified systems will route to a catch can. The catch can either vents the excess pressure and collects the crank waste, or sends the excess pressure back into the intake system after separating the crank waste. Oil/water separators will burn off moisture and route the oil back to the crank case. Hope that helps a little.

That is a really dumb idea to tell people about no matter how much or little you try to ignite. It is not recommended on any level, and just in case someone wants to give it a go, remember that you cant put it out unless you have the correct fire extinguisher (Type 1 Class D) which is not the same as any household or commercial fire extinguisher. Stick with vinegar - it's a whopping $2 at most, and you can buy it anywhere.

Surprised the owner didn't get the paint stripped before bringing it in...I suppose he's gonna get that done at the same time he's getting the inside properly cleaned to make sure there's no metal chippings from the drilling work to be thrown around the top end? I say this because I sandblasted my rocker covers once (for painting) and my precautions were far from ideal. Ended up with sand all inside the covers and had to drill out the SS baffles which were riveted in the aluminum covers, get the whole thing cleaned up, then refit the baffles. Not cool...
@TheFabricatorSeries
@TheFabricatorSeries 8 жыл бұрын
They don't always get them stripped. At the end of this episode, I ended up blasting the cover to strip all the old coating off. The cover pic of the vide is the finished product. Clening the inside is tricky. I use a combination of liquid cleaners and pressurized air before blasting it. Once it is confirmed clean, the ports and passages get taped up with heavy duct tape to seal them off. If you prep it correctly, you will not have an issue with sand enteringthe baffled section.

I do not wish to create argument, but I have used epoxy in the past and it is still holding to this day. I'm pretty sure I can call upon some of my previous clients for verification that their fittings are still holding strong after nearly a decade. Off the shelf epoxies might not be the ones that hold true, but some (when used properly) will absolutely hold true and strong. Not all epoxies are created equal.

Thanks! I've been fabbing and building cars for a little over 15 years now. I started this channel as something to do to keep me entertained after I retired a few years ago. It became a full time job again haha. I'll check out some of your vids.

SI RICKO What's yours? Haha. You're looking at a terminology difference which equates to (in my opinion) potato/potato. It may not be the "specific" definition of a text book catch can, but it's a can that catches fluid, and people know them as catch cans. Formal semantics aren't usually found in videos with only similar or reference topics.
