Byakuya winning was due to the fact that he had training and the drip from the zero 0 (which helped him blocking NaNaNa’s underbelly and PePe’s abilities). The three quincies that lost to him also were so focused on attacking. Take account this, it was stated before in the previous cour that their Blut abilities cannot be used at the same time, so when they’re using Blut arterie in a form of Vollständig and Sklaverei, their defenses (Blut vene) are pretty much low.

Thing is pepe had a lot of build up in the manga that went absolutely nowhere and for that reason a lot of his moments were just cut out in the anime and he fully turned into a Joke which I think is for the best 😭
