Cakewalk seems really powerful. I'm slowly getting to learn it and so far really good. THU is great too, i don't think TH3 is that much less, so it's actually amazing we have all this for free.

Nice review. I've been using this for a year now and this free TH3 version is so simple and easy to get a great tone. I'm not concerned about getting an exact copy of a certain amp or cab. I'm want a great tone and this delivers!

Hey man! A suggestion: Your videos are always long. That's not a bad thing but you could put time markers on your description to go where would like to go. I know it's time consuming but it would be something good for your subscribers :)

Cool this is my DAW of choice right now glad you covered it I had no Idea you could load IR in TH3 itself. Its has all those features because it was actually for sale at one point competing with other DAWs on the market. They didnt strip it down or anything, Its the fully featured one you'd pay big bucks for a few years ago. Wish you went into the DAW a little more, i find it also kind of overwhemlming but then again im a noob that barely knows what a track is so im kind glad to hear its not that straight forward for others who know their ways around this kind of stuff. cake walk is so good. i use tse x30 and kalthallen cabs for my main guitar tone, but TH3 is so versatile that i even use it on synths. th3 takes alot of different input sounds well, and has alot of spacial sound options, not just amp tone options.

I was surprised by how good it sounds! Looking at what I usually have to do with my guitar tracks though, I do suspect I'd have to boost the highs and cut the lows quite a bit to get them to sit in the mix properly. I mainly use guitars to fill up space in my tracks, it is hardly ever a main element or a lead sound, so I don't need much. Might check this out though!

Small hint: There's a Master button in the center where you can adjust sensitivity. It is set for single coils from factory. I don't know if you switched that from low to high. I found that much later and it definitely improves on the sound for humbucker guitars. I don't like the sterile sound, either. At least when it comes to the feeling and realism/dynamics I prefer the Mercuriall AMT SSx that I recently purchased. This is also why I didn't really care about TH3 when I first tried out Cakewalk. But after I saw Soulhenge's video on the TH3 I gave it a second try. Still don't like to jam with it, but you can create some real nice metal sounds already with the free included version.

Finally you mention Bias. I really liked it at first when it first came out to tablets... but since then the market came out with a lot of far better stuff. That new version of it is more of the same. The top end is always atrocious. And all the reviews are paid promotions essentially.

Cakewalk by Bandlab used to be Sonar Platinum and owned by Gibson. It was a CA$400+ professional product back then. Hence the multitude of features.

That Randall example, did you play it with an active humbucker solution? Sounds pretty massive. Do you plug right into the Hi-Z or do you put an OD/Precision Drive/EQ pedal before? I often think the Yamaha THR10 input is a bit weak because it never sounds quite alike the clear signals you guys get.

I've used Cubase and find Cakewalk amazing for free, its got good headroom for plugins and some great onboard effects with optimal audio engine, and to have this free amp sim is great, its a no brainer, which is great for me having no brains!

hey man, the % buttons on the top will help with scrolling left and right to see what you have. It basically shrinks the work screen area so you can see everything.

Gotta say, I'm surprised about your comments on the attack. My experience is that it responds to pick attack much more realistically than helix and many others. In fact I see that as it's major asset. Great review all the same mate.

I have TH3 overloud stand alone version. Pretty much the same thing just more of everything. The UI is garbage but the simulation is quite impressive IMHO. I think you missed the miking cabs option which is pretty good and change the tone dramatically just like IRL. Thanks for putting your 2 cents on it.

Hey man good work, so I go to my Cake of which I've been using since PRO AUDIO 9. SO I have several modeling plugs. But I loaded up the TH3 and it is only a DEMO version! Says you have to buy it. WHat's up bub? I use everything when I do my Foley work. My last audiobook was 8hs long and 200+ dedicated tracks so I have a good working relationship with Band Lab also. They really messed up changing over to Teac and such. I also worked the Pro Audio dept at Guitar Center and owned 3 studios. All made profits. SO I click on it and it wants authorization. HUH. Says nada about FREE except for trail version. I bought ALL the versions of Cakewalk. Except for the Band Lab newbies. Rock on we'll hurt 'cha bad. Thanks

Thanks, after many years of not playing I am trying to get back. Cakewalk improved so much I cant find my self in it. I am trying to activate my amp sims when I play guitar. Somehow I can only make them work on tracks I have recorded. Somehow it wont let me play with my plugins on.

Been using the full version of TH3 for the past year and nothing has beat it for my uses. Don't get me wrong, there've been other programs that are just as good at certain things - the NTS Suite is fantastic, and just as good in the areas of what it does. But TH3 has so much more functionality and variety of tones that it's not a 1:1 comparison. Haven't tried TH-U yet, but from what I've read / seen - it's basically the same with some minor updates and additional features.

those features, like the rig player, especially - are a major difference. to me, that's the best software sound i've heard, in combination with the irs - the rig cabs are not always the best option. the ir loader sounds better - less mud, essentially - and the modding options are really cool where they're available. and i like the super bass amp. so, i think it's worth the update.

I have 2 questions: - why sometimes some effect is put before the amp and not after and what difference it makes - it is actually reasonable to think putting 2 amps in line? I've seen in this video and I'm not getting why it is for. I'm asking because usually you have just an amp with one cabinet. Thanks.

Yeah got this recently Cakewalk was first ever DAW i used and got Version 2 moved onto Cubase . any how Found Cakewalk now have this deal with Bandlab and you dont need to pay a subscription either. So you can also play an jam with peeps worldwide Started messing around with this TH3 couple of days ago Yeah very impressive Just running through the presets without making any adjustments even got a great Zeppelin sound really surprising the difference an amp sound does make like switching that Zep sound to a fender tweed woah What i did see was an option to unlock by buying a code But going by what you say here i assume it is all fully working as included with this Version of Cakewalk Bandlab So keep money n pocket anyhow great vid have learn't there is yet more to discover an mess with in it .

I have this right up to the point your at when you start to play, but I have no sound from the TH3. I have just my clean guitar through my interface. It's like TH3 and Cakewalk aren't even there, even though they are up. Any help?

Also check if you have a direct monitor knob on your audio device. If its too much one way you bypass the effects and just get clean guitar. Too much the other way and you get your amp simm...but a lot of latency. To b e honest this is why i dont und.se these amp simms. I cant get a non latency sound and keep the amp simm sou

So this is a loaded comment. Sorry. A disclaimer before I rant: Cakewalk is free, and for what you're getting for no money, when I was a kid(now 42) it would have bankrupted me. It IS perfect for a someone who is cutting their teeth or feeling it out to see if he or she wants to keep going. However......... I parallel your comment about the information overload. It's more than just information overload for me, though. It's complexity. In my personal opinion, it's kind of ridiculous. It's one of the reasons I quit messing around with Blender cgi software. It got to a point where I'm watching hours worth of tutorials for time consuming functions that a simple pencil and ruler, or physical medium(clay) could accomplish. Or that a cheap texturing tool could do in seconds. My point is that it takes away from the actual thing I'm trying to do. I spend all that time working software instead of being an artist. With Blender it was more about that than anything else. In the frame of reference of guitar, I know it's spending money but I think it's a lot easier to just velcro a stomp box to a homemade pedal board and turn the knobs to where I want them. Done. I'm an analog guy and will always be. Music is an activity that unfortunately costs money, and I don't think there's a lot of getting away from that. But again, how can I argue with a FREE digital studio??? Almost nullifies any complaint.

dude, it's not a demo to th-u. in as much as the included gear pieces are concerned, it's identical in option, features, and sound. th-u has an additional rig player (which, in my opinion, is the best vst sound outhere, especially in conjunction to the irs provided stock), and they've re-written the ir cab engine (and interface). plus added some gear items, and added modding options for some of the amps (mostly the new models). that's it. so th-3 cakewalk is a limited version of the actual th-3, not a demo, and th-3 is th-u without the new additions.

TH3 is great! totally worth the cost. By the way, its not about hitting the sound spot, like you take it and make your review, but about the quality of the sound.. Do you like it?? Dont compare, but instead ask yourself if you like the sound. STOP BEING FUCKING COPY CAT IDIOTS!! Treat it as a new amp. Thats the point.. If you are a robot and want to copy sounds instead of making your own then good luck with the amp sims.. You will never ever get it.
