Your th400 videos are very good, refreshes my memory. Being a retired G.M. electrical/drive-ability tech. I haven't rebuilt a non electric trans in decades. But now have 3 400/475's to do. I thank you sir! Very informative!!!

The shop that did the work on my small block Chevy , had so many people wanting their engine or heads yesterday , and I was just a dude who was trying to get my engine built for my Nova , so I told him I was okay with whatever worked for his schedule , and he had guys from the drag strip and roundy rounders wanting their goodies done asap , it took a while to get my short block done but I got married and had kids and it's still sitting , but I almost have all the parts I need to finally assemble it but it feels like I'll be 90 before I get it done .. lol but I'm a bit stubborn and I know I'm closer to getting it back on the road . Oh and I always look forward to your videos and the other channels I watch , because I really don't care for pretty much anything on tv nowadays . 👍

Lol I caught that. I watched a bunch of teardowns and never saw an assembly video. So then I found your channel

I use the flat flywheel and spacer that GM used when they put the 4L80 E behind LS engines. Most of the time they were on 6.0 engines, but I did find one on a 4.8 that was in one of those cut-away vans. This set up also uses longer bolts. The TH 400 convertor bolt hole line up perfectly, but if using 350, PG, and others, the bolt holes need to be redrilled, they are 120 degrees apart.

Looks like a suncoast direct drum, BTE aluminum drums are anodized. Lack of bleed hole in direct is 100% the cause of torched directs

By the looks of the center support spring retainer, it looks like there may have been end play issues as well. Lots of nice & expensive parts used but these mistakes shouldn't have happened with an experienced/reputable rebuilder. The unknown factor is whether the owner, when they had it repaired after the first (self inflicted) destruction of the direct drum/sprag, wanted to pay the guy for a complete rebuild, or just fix/patch a problem. The owner is wanting to reuse parts that I wouldn't. As you/we know Shawn, cleanliness is of the utmost importance when rebuilding transmissions. Metal shavings, particles contamination, metal embedded into band lining, friction plates would all be replaced. As farr as the BTE drum rubbing on the case saver, that shouldn't have happened. I turn away customers that want a patch job, that's not my way of doing things. New bushings, thrust washers, clutches, steels, bands, pump gears are standard on anything that I do. But that's the way I was taught. Charging someone for a rebuilt transmission, and installing used friction plates is theft, a hack job.

how much and how long = how much your willing to spend to get it back as soon as you want it... but in today's age parts availability is the first problem second is the cost to acquire it ... low fluid is a possible cause as well as wrong spring in press reg? ..last one i did the 3/8 plug in the case for duel feed leaked wound up doubling the plugs and locktite them with bearing compound,,, your info helps ... not a sales pitch that im the best,,, thanks Sean n keep em coming,,, oh ya question 4 ya.. some duel feed block the left hole and some block the right hole (most i do is rt hole blocked) any thoughts why that is

Good on you Shawn, will be interesting to see the root cause you find . Put money down on a Ally 5.3 to replace the damaged 6.0 this week.
