Thanks for these videos Shawn. Could you do a video on a soick TH400 rebuild? There are so many 800-1,000hp build videos out there with aftermarket valve bodies, and other parts, etc... But not a lot for the average street driven TH400 with less than 500ish hp.

Lots of great info. Just went to ebay and bought 2 4l80e direct drums. Scored 2 th400 cores the other day that both have parking brake tail housings. Curious to see what's inside. Thanks for the great content as usual.

Is the only reason for 97 and up drum is because it comes with 34 element sprag ? Can you use an older drum and buy the 34 element sprag? Ive found a few on ebay and it doesnt list the year it came out of only the picture. Or is there a way to tell by picture if its 97 and up? Going to be my first build and been watching your videos for a while !

Is a th400 direct drum with sprag the exact same as 80e. Does the outer race set closer to the drum in an 80e. I ordered an 80e drum but the .795 outer race does not set closer, thusly the race retainer does not fit properly. Your opinion would be appreciated. Thanks for all the videos.

I'm curious on why you didn't cut the piston down.

Just explaining different ways to get the desired result. I usually cut the piston because I have more thick than thin steels!

You can use a 4L80E molded direct piston in a TH400 forward drum.

i have a 400 and the direct drum does not have any check balls in the drum nor the piston , will that cause issues in a turbo / transbrake application ?
