Born in 1876, ordained as a novice at 13. He was ordained under the royal sponsorship at Wat Takrai, Phisanuloke province. He was the royal mentor and teacher of the Khmer language to H.R.H. Crown Prince Mongkot when the Crown Prince was ordained a novice. A monks of profound wisdom, he was renowned for his sagacity and his witty eloquence. He strictly observed all tenets of itinerant monk hood. He passed away at the age of 85.

It is part of the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta. This part is about various deities/devas taking up the cries of the previous group of deities/devas which proclaim Buddha's setting of the Wheel of Dharma in motion.

This particular chant is only one sutra/sutta called the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta in Pali. Buddhism is not really a religion when Buddha was not a god, it was a man with a good idea about how to live. So you live in harmony with the environment and generally show good manners, this is Buddhism, simplified. This I have understood after several stays in Thailand and through my Thai wife.

This is Bali for the comments below-it is the language Monks speak and chant in Thailand. Thai evolved from Khmer (Cambodian language), Sanskrit and Bali.

I am accustomed to reading/writing Thai so the spelling articulated has to sound out and there is an under-lying low tone that sounds like Bor Pla in That is al and although you cannot hear me say it in Thai here it would be easier to understand if I could speak it for you.l

mano a mano yes, Pali is ancient Indian language ..around 1500 years old or more .. just like Sanskrit, ....there are many Indians who still know this language and use this language during prayers ...lot of ancient books ..spiritual and cultural are preserved which are written in Pali language ..

yes therefore Buddhism and especially Jainism are religions of peace as they expressly and impliedly show that their core principles are of pacifism, and loving kindness. even Hinduism is relatively benign to that of the abrahamic faiths which were all spread by the sword.

TheKombai, Christianity is not an evil religion. You might perceive it that it is, but you seem to speak as if it does not promote Love and Compassion towards others. Jesus spoke a lot about loving one another, and about being at peace too. It's probably because the major buddhist group believes in Theravada and has influences from Hindu and old India. If I remember it right, the most of their chants are in Magadhan (Pali). Well, at least my mom told me it's in Magadhan, and she's Thai =)

+Tsewang Dorje My understanding is that chanting serves as a skillful means to focus one's mind; that is it's a form of samatha meditation (clam meditation). When one's mind is clear then one is likely to see one' actions-- bodily, verbal, and mental for what they really are, and have a chance to improve on them for the better.
