Hi Darren. I very much enjoy watching all your foodie videos. I was wondering if you could give me a rough feel for a street food and local thai food restaurant budget for a retired chap with a biggish Western belly. Would 400 baht a day cut it, or is that too low?
@bbface444 жыл бұрын
I think 400 baht would be a struggle, a good 1000 baht would be plentiful if not looking for anything exotic. That is basic food and drink only excluding accommodation.
@RM-_4 жыл бұрын
@@bbface44 what? For daily 3 decades worth of retirement? Wow! I spend less in the UK on food than this!!!
@darrenb34 жыл бұрын
Hi RM, Thank you. It really depends on what you want to eat, and how much food you want, but it's certainly doable on 400 baht per day for many people. I have made videos in the past showing what I could eat on a $5 US per day budget (My "Eating Cheap in Thailand" videos are here: kzbin.info/aero/PLNLfDOIkGB12bQkYDcu9dHHrhRZTm6pbx ). Having said that a single fish in a local restaurant is usually about 400 baht, and you can see in this current video that we spent 150 baht at some of the street food shops. When we go out to a local restaurant, depending on where and what we eat and how much we eat, the bill for the 3 of us can be anywhere from 200 baht to 1400 baht. All the prices are shown in my videos to give you a feel for what you can get for your money here. I hope that helps.

Darren have you ever been ill eating street food?
@darrenb34 жыл бұрын
I once had an issue with some street food about a year ago. After I bought it and took it home I left it on the cupboard for around 6 hours, then I put it in the fridge for 4 days. After the 4 days I microwaved it and had stomach issues about 6 hours later. That wasn't the food's fault, that was irresponsible food handling. I know a few people (about 6) who have got sick while visiting here and they all believe it was from their hotel restaurants. I eat what the locals eat and that seems to work for me. But if I buy chicken and it is not cooked all the way through I will either microwave it for a few minutes, or bin it, depending on where I am. If the food doesn't taste right, or smells weird I bin it. If a restaurant gives me plates and they are not fully dry, I dry them thoroughly with the tissues provided on the table before using the plates. I always check my plates and cutlery to make sure they are dry before using them. And if a street food vendor or restaurant doesn't look clean I won't eat there. I will go elsewhere. I hope that helps :)

Oh yummy, yummy...... Well you've done it again. Now I'm so hungry for seafood. And a fish-o-filet from Micky-D's is not going to do it this time.... lol....... Look out Price Cutters, supper market, the only place to get the freshest seafood in the middle of nowhere, Missouri. Unless I go to Red Lobster on Monday then I can get all I can eat shrimpies.... yeah! Husband said we might go. But COVID is raising here. It sucks, maybe if we go early lunch we might be ok. Well y'all be safe. I'm happy that y'all get to enjoy being out & about. Hopefully the new COVID shot will do the same for us Americans. I'm just glad the dang election is over & we won't have the biggest baby in the world in the White House no more & we've got someone in there w/morals, not racist, & can up lift us & hopefully will tell us the truth & not hide anything from us like the last dummy did w/telling us about COVID not being deadly. What a joke he has been. I refuse to even say his name. I just call him the baby. I never liked him in the 1970's & I still don't like him. Ok, I'm going off topic. Back to food..... lol.... Y'all take care & God bless. May 2021 be better for all, Chris from Missouri
@darrenb34 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, hope you found something tasty Chris! Unfortunately our time of being out and about might be ending, depending on what happens in the next few weeks. 10 days ago they found a case of Covid in the community at the biggest seafood market in Thailand, and now it's up to nearly 2,000 cases they have found, in many parts of the country. Fingers crossed they can stop it again here 🤞🤞 Yes, here's hoping for a better year ahead for everyone! God bless you and hubby, wishing you a very Happy New Year! May 2021 see your plate regularly filled with shrimpies 😋
