I am running budget around 55K Thai baht in Pattaya. I am not big drinker and party person, the biggest budget item is a rent at 16K 100 m from the beach. Regarding sizes - it is true, the dishes in US are way bigger , what majority people do not know, the average person needs 1/3 of those diches and some, like Coke and other soft drinks there are no need at all. Everything else will be flushes down the toilet or landed on you belly as fat. So Thai portion is perfect and cheap.

I visited Thailand in January after being away for 12 years, and it’s clear that shrinkflation is happening there. Even my Chinese wife noticed how much smaller the portions have become. I only eat seafood, and in at least 10 different places, I ordered fried shrimp with basil. Each time, I was served just three tiny, underwhelming shrimp. To get a portion comparable to what I’d get in the UK, I’d estimate the real cost to be around £4.

I bought some Hanes underwear at a mall in Bangkok a few months ago and I was shocked at the price of a single undershirt. I think it was $15 each. That is crazy. Also, vitamins can be more expensive in Thailand. As you said, pretty much anything imported from the West is going to be quite pricey. Like you inferred, it's partly psychological because when you are used to paying fairly cheap prices for many things and you wind up paying prices similar to the West or even greater than the West for something it messes with your mind.

Imported products alway have import tax, in Thailand we have triple import tax for luxury goods that included cars, fashion goods, tobacco and alchohol etc. it same as you try to find Thai durian or Jasmin rice in the states but for Chinese goods we have FTA with China that’s why all Chinese products are so cheap. For the gym I think because they are not so mass in Thailand, Thai people love to jogging at the park, play football or basketball more than go to the gym then gym can’t get enough members to maintain their income in long term that’s might be the reason.

IMO the best way to determine what is cheap or not is to compare the average daily pay in that country and see what it buys. Then compare that with the average of where you come from and see who gets the best value. Thailand loses out because the average daily salary is so small. It should be no surprise that all of the things you listed are more expensive in Thailand than US. New biologic drugs can be extremely expensive anywhere. Thailand is a much smaller market for these drugs and you would not expect giant pharmas to prioritize supply to Thailand at low cost when they are not even making enough to supply the US. High end international schools recruit all their teachers from mostly UK and Australasia. They have to compensate these teachers well if they are to get quality candidates, including comprehensive health care and education coverage for the teachers' entire family. Thailand has to compete with places like Dubai and China for teachers. I love German wheat beers, and they used to be very expensive, but now they make wheat beers in Thailand. Not quite as good as in Germany but more than serviceable. What I don't understand is why does anybody drink American mass market beer, like San Miguel and Budweisser, they are utterly foul.

I literally just got The Leaf + The Twig combo razor set from Leaf Shave specifically because of rising costs of blades and not wanting to pay through the nose for cartridges when abroad. Hands down one of the best purchases I've made and definitely the best shaving experience I've had for head and face. I definitely recommend checking them out. I also got their shave oil and fig scented soap puck. Will cost you pennies to refill. Thanks for the info.

I miss the Turkish barbers in KSA I prefer to be shaven by a pro In Thailand, they are not good at this. They can only cut and color hair. Shaving forgetaboutit.

Razor blades here are very expensive and do not last as long as blades bought in the states.

It is not cheap at all.. I am from a Rich Arab country but I found cost of living in Bangkok is double of what i pay in my country .Food & services are very low in quality compared to what we have here in my country. I pay 2 $ only for a gallon of fuel in my country. 300 $ is my rent of my flat of 3 rooms 2 bathrooms ++ new building in my country.

Ramze I'm a sub because I really enjoyed your early videos. They were fresh. I think your on a bit of downer / negativity streak right now - or maybe you're puckering up to the algo (5k is big high but then you gotta chase 10!). In the kindest way possible I think you should get out of your office and go enjoy the country you have chosen to live in. Take a cooking class or a language class. Learn about the history or the culture. It's an,ancient place after all. If you were in Greece or Rome wouldn't you be visiting and exploring more? It's ok if you don't put out videos every day. Do em when you feel inspired to do them or when you have something real you want to share. That's my 2 cents you never asked for (you should trademark your closing line by the way). No offence intended.

Thanks for the advice. I spend a majority of the time out having fun. The videos are not all going to be positive. That’s the problem with most of the KZbin content about Thailand. Everyone wants to paint it perfect. It’s a place like anywhere else in the world. Has lots of good and lots of bad.
