For me what’s very important is a sense of purpose, I keep occupied with keeping fit, playing sports, which is good for socialising and eating healthy. The Pattaya area has many options that make this possible. I’ve lived and traveled to many countries in my lifetime and Pattaya is my choice for retirement, no regrets after 4 years of living here!

I want to expand on your Friends comment. People confuse acquaintance, friend, social pal. There is a difference. It can be hard to make like minded friends if there is limited social interactions outside the bar which can alter thinking. I find it about the similar to US to make friends, but this is a very transient community. Even people moving to just different parts of Thailand or staying in a neighboring country for a while, to just traveling for a month.

Hey man, great stuff. We moved here from North Carolina. We've been here one year (Jomtien Beach) and your tip on how to order your meal at a restaurant is brilliant.😅 We're going to use that method from now on. Also, my wife is Puerto Rican, if you could share any good Spanish restaurants that would be cool.

Great to meet you! My wife is Cuban so I get the need for Latin food. Haven’t found exactly what the Caribbean ladies will be looking for but if you want a great Tapas and Spanish restaurant, look up La Mesa out near Maprachan. Just did a KZbin short about it a few days ago.

I'm from the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago) and getting good Caribbean food in Southeast Asia could be a little challenging. Hence, whenever I travel there I make sure I get a condo with a kitchen and cook my favorite Trinidadian dishes. You can get most of the ingredients, especially in the wet markets and chain supermarkets.

I think stay a way from Pattaya city a bit then you may find a better expat that live a way from the night life may be Hua Hin
@RamzeTravels4 ай бұрын
Hua Hin is a nice option but was too quiet for us and not as close to the things we wanted. I think people have no idea how different Pattaya can be if you just go 5 miles away from Central Pattaya. Nobody believes it when they come out to our neighborhood. The great part of being an expat here in Thailand is you can move around easily and cheaply and try many places til you find one you love.

That’s what it sounds like to me. 😐 The men can’t compete with the high-earning men in the west, so they go to Thailand to find a poor Thai woman who thinks $2K a month is a lot of money, because the average Thai man makes $500 a month. He sure was bashing western women for having careers and wanting to be high earners. Doesn’t he talk about the high cost of living in the U.S.? Women have to eat and pay bills, too. Nobody has the luxury of sitting on their ass in America. Two incomes are needed for a family to survive. For women, financial and emotional security is a top criteria when choosing a partner. It would not be wise to choose a partner who cannot provide for a family. Unfortunately, 60% of Americans make less than $50K a year. 😐 About 32% make less than $25K a year. We know that is not enough to afford a “traditional” lifestyle, much less a comfortable one. But ok, blame western women for the system they didn’t set up. By the way, my mother is Thai. If western men think Thai women aren’t concerned about money, they will be in for a big surprise. Not only will you be taking care of her, you will be expected to help provide for her parents and other family members, too. If a man doesn’t hold up his end of this “traditional” marriage, there will be consequences. Thai women would choose careers and education, if given the opportunity. It improves their status in life. Thailand’s birthdate is plummeting, because young couples can’t afford to have children. The documentary is available to watch on KZbin. This problem isn’t unique to Thailand, though. “Thailand will grow old before it grows rich.”

The generic answer for a non-Thai is no. Most jobs are protected here so it is Thai only. If you get recruited from some large company for a specific advanced skill, then it is possible.

Agreed the unrealistic expectations because of friends, social media, TV, local environment. Lived in West Palm Beach the only women who had morals, values, and reasonable expectations were from Mid West or had moved to Florida and lived for less than 2 months
