I would sit in the train station all day just to listen to the woman making announcements in Thai. When I fly from the USA to Thailand and they make intercom announcements, I can’t wait for the flight attendant to make announcements in Thai. There’s just something about the tone that relaxes me.

Yes, I can relate to that also, especially in a small quiet town. I could easily just sit in Lamphun Railway station for a few hours, it’s like stepping back in time.

Hi Wayne, It's a nice place whit beautiful temple's sometimes I go from the flower market Chiangmai to Lamphun every 30 minute minivans going there . Thanks for the beautiful impressions you make take care.

Interesting factoid is that Lamphun is much older than Chiang Mai. It was the regional capital until King Mengrai wandered by in 1295 or so and ordered the construction of Old City CM. Lamphun was called Haripunchai (sp?) Back in the day. Nice vid, Wayne. Thanks for the tour. Nice town likely to change a lot when the new airport opens. Both Lamphun and Seraphi likely to be affected.

Chiang Mai's surounding area's have a lot going for them with loads of beautiful places to visit, friendly local's and very reasnable prices. Thinking about moving there. Having lived on Phuket for a long time, it's become over run with traffic and crazy drivers also rental prices have gone through the roof. Just so much more chilled up there in the north, I can understand why you like it so much. Loving your videos mate. Take it easy.

You're very right. After a while it's nice to be in the places with fewer tourists. It's like in Devon, hordes of tourists coming to certain places and all but take it over for a couple of months.

Lamphun IS a wonderful little city I've always enjoyed going through from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and back upcountry again--great place with lots of friendly people and some of the prettiest Lanna Thai ladies to be found in these parts! I stay in Chonburi but in a small village. Much smaller than that town your in. Maybe 300 folk. Pure chilled life and so relaxed with nice people. I could not stay in BKK, CM or Pattaya.

Yep, I agree - if you plan to live long-term or retire in Thailand, it makes sense to want to live around/with the Thai people, and not the tourists. The Thai people are the best part of being in Thailand. And, you can always go visit the tourist places, if/when you feel the urge to see a farang face or eat farang food. For anyone who actually wants to live full-time around tourists and places that cater to tourists, I recommend relocating to Kissimmee, Florida, in the US - which is right smack next door to Walt Disney World, the number one tourist destination in the world (and for darn good reason). The weather is similar to SE Asia, but the prices are ofc higher, esp. if you hang out & eat at the DIsney parks & properties. Looking forward to part 2, mate! :)

I went to Phayao a few weeks ago and just got back from a week in Chiang Rai for the first time. I am looking at heading to Lamphun next week if I am over my flu and gastro. I will visit Lamphun city then head further down to Li to meet someone who lives down there.

Sad to say although we love Chiang Mai it has basically become similar to the Waikiki of Hawaii. Just a giant tourist cluster F$@#. Traffic knotted up & just too many foreigners ! 😀 But...CM does have everything you could imagine ever needing/wanting

Aha, yeah I completely agree with a ride out of Chiangmai. This city is doing my head in atm. Roadworks is a dog's breakfast with all the rain and traffic. I'm not usually a grumbler mate when it comes to my beloved city. This is a nightmare. Lamphun is a great option.

Yeah need to get out sometimes, ay Lars. They made a right mess of the roads around the moat. It's a bumpy ride going around on a click now. Bit's of metal sticking up and massive pits. I'm doing a vlog on it in the coming days on a walk n talk. I love Chiang Mai but Lamphun could be the place I end up in the future. It's perfect for me. Cheers mate.

@WalkAboutWayne glad you're doing a Vlog on the current roadworks situation here. I consider myself an experienced rider that includes big bikes over 500cc. Can adamantly state that I have never experienced a more dangerous ride in this city these past 10 years. Not to mention the maniacs that merge into your lane without looking in the poring rain. Add gaping holes and steel plates. It's a recipe for disaster. Quite enjoyed Phayao last week. Chilled atmosphere on the lake.

They have some massage shops around and I think they have a small bar area. It's a quiet place that's very near to the bright lights of Chiang Mai. That's why I like Lamphun.

Great little city, better suited then Phayao because it’s not so remote. Lamphun is a quick ride from Chiang Mai. You’re probably looking at Lampang 🤣. Easy mistake to make. Lamphun is 28km from Chiang Mai 👍

Seems Thailand and most Asian countries main foods are rice and noodles. Just wondering how big a problem they have with diabetes with the carb intake so high. I am borter line diabetic and it not due to sugar intake but carbs that convert to sugar. Great little town but not being near ocean would be problem for me.

Great comment Mate, I just been for a Diabetes test 2 days ago. I thought I had it. My blood showed normal, but I’m cutting down on carbs. I’m not sure what the numbers are for Diabetes in Thailand, but I’m sure it must be quite high. A lot of people with big carb bellies in Thailand aswell. It’s so easy to put on weight here. Yes, Chiang Mai greater area is big, with lots of towns. Lamphun is its own city though and easy to get to Chiang Mai center. You can get buses and songtaews daily into Chiang Mai also.

The train don't stop at to many around Chiang Mai but great for getting to Lamphun and Lampang. You can find some girls in Lamphun, yes.

Songthaews run from Lamphun to Chiang Mai all day. It would be cheap. Train is cheap also. It's a nice 25 minutes ride on a bike also, follow the train tracks right back into Chiang Mai.
