Stepping on currency surprised me. Although I believe there may be laws in the UK about defacing currency and its frowned upon to deface illustrations or photos of the monarch, stepping on currency is an easy mistake. Money can easily fall on the ground and one might not see it, having one's eyes straight ahead. It would be easy to contrive a situation to get someone into trouble, pushing them onto it etc.

Selectively enforced I think. There were a lot of Ukrainian flags flying at the anti-war rallies in Thailand. No one were arrested or fined over it to my knowledge. If the foreign flags were flying in protest against Thailand, I'm sure the outcome would be different.

😂😂😂 I’m aware of other countries and ‘different’ laws eg ring a door bell without any good reason, vacuuming your house after 10 pm, doing business or talking to pirates, carrying 50kgs of potatoes, flying a kite that may annoy another, disrupting or objecting to a wedding or even cleaning bird or bat poop off etc. Oh, well its the world we live in, I just hope ignorance and context results in leaner penalties.
@peterallen71662 жыл бұрын
Littering. I see it everywhere, more so in the villages, perpetuated by the locals. I used to pick up a big trash bag every time I walked, but by the next day there was just as much left by the locals. The laws are just on paper if no one follows them, and no one enforces them. Every country has such laws. It keeps the lawmakers busy.
@MalengWan2 жыл бұрын
Laws are meant to control a natural tendency, something people naturally do, and not something they never think of doing ! I saw in many movies guys (US) drinking from a bottle in a paper bag, it seems strange to me, is there a law saying bottles of booze should be in paper bags ?
@weekdaycycling2 жыл бұрын
Thai officers are too lazy to deal with such minor issues as fining people who litter in public, etc. If they have the chance to take money out of your pocket as part of a commission, they will act in a vigorous way. Tourists might be simple targets for corrupt officers. There is always a double standard for legal enforcement.
@angb41832 жыл бұрын

I found it shocking that you cannot take budda statues out of Thailand when there are so many sales made to tourists that buy them to take home. The surprising law was the one with the microphone. I already knew about the other law concerning having more than a deck of cards, since it's related to gambling laws in Thailand.
@weekdaycycling2 жыл бұрын
I believe you can drive without a shirt only in certain tourist areas, such as on beach roads in Pattaya, Phuket, and so on, but not beyond that. It is acceptable to attend some festivals, particularly the Songkran festival, without wearing a shirt. However, this does not apply to female tourists. Littering is only for Thais. Tourists are encouraged to keep the areas clean by disposing of trash in designated trash cans, which can be difficult to find in public. I've never heard that flying other countries' flags in public is illegal in Thailand. In any case, it's nonsense for any tourist to do so unless they're wearing shirts with their flag on them as a fashion item. It is contradicted by the fact that dogs wearing Thai flags as decorated items have been widely done in recent years by a group of political activists who have had no legal issues. Most foreign countries, I believe, have laws prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public. It is not a strange law, but it is known as "international recognition. In Thailand, you can drink a bottle of beer in front of a 7-Eleven or while walking down the street, passing by a police officer who will almost certainly disregard you. On top of that, never vape an e-cigarette in front of law enforcement. It is possible to receive a large fine in Thailand because e-cigarettes are illegal.
