Thailand street food challenge with kids and friendly locals (Episode 5)

We LOVE Thai food and we love Thai people, so exploring a Thai food market is one of our favourite things to do! We also tried our hand at cooking Thai food too. Food really is one of the best ways to enjoy local culture.
The only problem is, when you go to a genuinely local Thai food market, it's full of food's we've never seen and to be honest have no idea what they are!
We have set our selves a great 2021 challenge. This week also marks week 1 of the 12 week challenge and what greater way to start than foooooooood!

Sawasdee ka from a Thai viewer. Love to see how adventurous your family is esp your kids eating bugs without any hesitation! Unlike other travel vloggers they always struggle and over react 🤣 and some always go for ham cheese sandwich from 7 - 11. The snacks you asked has grinded mung beans inside with rice flour cover, must eat with sugar otherwise it is plain and rather powdery. Old people like them.

had such a giggle with this one! :) love but cant believe how spicey some of the food is here. -Making the rainbow dessert was perfect with kids because its just lots of making colourful balls, defiantly recommend that as a fun fam activity if you get chance :) (We did it with Ozo Phuket in Kata and they were sooooo lovely) x

The dessert at 9:43 is pounded rice flour filled with mung bean paste and rolled in coconut. It isn't my most favorite dessert either! You guys passed by a stall that sells "kanom buang", kinda looks like a dessert taco and "roti sai mai" crepe with a bag of candy floss - this is an ancient and traditional Thai dessert!

Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for taking time to tell us what is! those ones defiantly look more beautiful than they taste. ;-) I would love to learn more about Thai food. So handy to know the name "kanom buang" too, we tried them on another day and much prefer them! We didn't try "roti sai mai" though , I wish we had, I was worried the candy floss looking one would be too sweet, but is it ok?

You ate it the wrong way. This mung bean desert is eaten with the sugar provided alongside with it. No Thais eat it raw like this before.

For the rice dumplings dessert, you must sprinkle the sugar+sesame seeds they provided well over before otherwise the taste will be too monotonic.

You can do both. It’s mung bean dumpling or mung bean crepe in Thai called “Kanom Tua Pap”
