The gold shops works with street robbers which is why they melted it down so fast. The gold shop should face prosecution as well.

The thief got caught because the video went viral and TV channels took a keen interest. The police realised this and decided "we'd better sort this out as it does not leave a good impression of Thailand". The courts thought the same and gave the thief a stiff sentence - sending out a message. I suspect this kind of theft has happened numerous times but never filmed and consequently no police action is ever taken. Quite lucky he filmed it in the first place. I wish him good luck with his channel and his new business.

Sorry to hear about this - best to get over it as quickly as possible, don't waste energy on it - it's already done and in the past. Over the years I have had a couple things stolen during my travels - including a top of the line iPhone that was snatched out of my hands on the Lyon Metro as we pulled out of the station and the doors were closing. It sucks but it is gone forever. Better to swallow the bitter feelings after a day or two and move on. It's not the end of the world - far worse things can and do happen.

Exact same thing happened to me. My first visit to Koph Samui walking home down the main street in Chaweng a moped carrying two ladyboys pulled up beside me, it was very polished. One moved behind me and the other wrapped her arm around my neck from the front just as seen in this video. I pushed them away and it was over in a few seconds as they hopped back on the moped and sped away. Only when i got back to my apartment did i realise my grandfathers gold St Christopher was no longer round my neck. Thinking back i could recall that the person that stood behind me had also patted down my pockets so it was a verty thorough job. The sentimental loss still hurts me and i'll be honest i had a bad taste ine mouth and was suspicious of all ladyboys I seen from that day on. Being niave i didn't know about the tourist police and didn't even report it. I regret not going round the gold shops asking but there were so many of them that is just seemed i needed to accept a much loved family item was gone. learned my lesson never to show any item of wealth in Thailand.

For us that live here the unwritten rule here never to wear gold around the Bars or Tourist resorts as strict as Thailand is your asking to get robbed.and if you see a Thai guy wearing 5 or 6 baht of gold in public make no mistake he's well connected and probably carrying.

Hi mate Am enjoying watching your interview way of you tubing. If you don’t mind me asking how much is the rent on your condo? I was just wondering for future reference. Thanks 🙏

Visited Bangkok as a kid with my family. One thing I remember clearly is the Thai guys were very frendly. They always played this game called "airplane" (or something similar.) They'd lift me up and say airplane!!! I could feel them checking my pockets every time. I never carreid anything in my pockets so they'd let me go.

Great View, be nice if you can share the name of the condo development .. Saw a previous video on Thong Lor vs a lesser place where you commented that you missed the older "less commercialized" Bangkok, you might want o head to Vietnam to discover more of the old Asian charm ..

If you decide to play in a rough playground, don't be surprised if you get a bloody nose. And.. that didn't look like a girl although it hardly matters. If you go trolling the sex districts, don't bring a huge wad of money, gold, expensive cameras or laptops. This guy seems like a nice guy. Nice guys should stick to nice places.
