Yeah, dealing with everything is what the epilogues deal with. Perhaps let this happy ending lay in your mind for a bit before jumping into the meat (and candy) of the epilogues

Everything in homestuck is circular, weather or not time shenanigans are involved. I want to talk about the title: Homestuck. It implies an inability to leave home. At the begining, we all thought that would be the concept of the comic, as John himself kept mentioning how hard it would be to leave the house. However, after he decided to do it, he just left. He stepped out of his house, and we all experienced the poetry of the outside world, with increasingly distant shots of his neighbourhood to the tune of wind chimes. The only thing John was "stuck" in was his mind. That was the first of many challenges he would face throughout this story, maybe a metaphor about leaving the confort zone could be made here, but I'll skip to the end instead. We see a John that went through a lot, lost a lot and came out stronger. However, after presumably enjoying his new life for a while, a somewhat worrying detail reared its head: every interaction John participated in beyond his first birthday on this new world took place in the same house. He stopped bothering to update the banner wishing him a happy 18th. He started becoming more distant to his friends, never being the first to iniciate contact, as we saw when Jade had to insist on visiting him. The same wind chimes that once marked his liberation were now played as the panoramic shots of his neighbourbood closed in on his bedroom. Once again, John became confined to his mind, unable to leave his childhood house. Once again, he was Homestuck.

I think this is a very, very insightful look at the ending and how it is all framed. And I think that ending has a lot of lessons about life hidden within it

I still remember, 1h 13m 35s into the stream: Thalion: _"It would be like if someone made an anime out of Homestuck. Hussie would roll over his own grave"_ And then Hussie decided to time travel to steal that idea to create [S] Act 7 As I say during the stream, this was a great journey that made me remember the reasons why I love HS so much ^w^

There was a big theorycrafter in the community called Bladekindeyewear who had the ear of a lot of the fandom when the final pages went live. He had spent years analyzing every little detail of the story and writing essays and predictions. Some of his predictions were true and some were not, but all were meticulously documented and supported with references taken directly from the comic. He hated the ending and I think it unfairly influenced a lot of people at the time because they were on board with how he was thinking the story would end and disappointed when it didnt end this way. For example: one of his more popular theories was that as a Slyph of Space, Kanaya was destined to be the one to repair the hole in Paradox Space after Lord English was pocketed. It's been several years now, and revisiting the entire story, I think the ending is marvelous. It answers just enough questions to be satisfying and leaves the rest up to you. As you said, Lord English was always an ancillary background threat and never truly felt like the end boss. That we don't see his ultimate demise feels appropriate. When you consider, LE's destruction of Pspace essentially created a circle, which then shattered after Calliope collapsed the sun, it's like Skaia knew that Paradox Space can't exist forever. That moment is as inevitable as the heat death of the universe. Considering that the aspect of Time within the narrative mythology is about inevitability this seems like the perfect culmination of the Lord of Time. LE is and always was the ending. The end of Paradox Space and the end of the story as a whole.

After editing, I'm actually amazed by the number of people who thought I cared what chat had to say during Collide and Act 7 😂😂😂 I was too invested to read chat, but I did care about the volume levels so everyone could rock out to the hype music

It's been so much fun reliving the events of Homestuck through your eyes. I'm glad this amazing piece of media has continued to touch the hearts of so many despite how old it is. Shame it never got an epilogue though lol /s

this is a month late but i finally caught up to your streams, thank you so much for giving homestuck so much of your time and respect, it has been amazing seeing it through your eyes again. as someone who read as it was coming out i always get happy knowing homestuck's legacy will continue. i know you said you aren't sure if you will read the epilogues, i would like to give my two cents as it's a bit different from everyone else's. i personally love the epilogues, a minority i know, but reading them after so many years after homestuck ended, it gutted me emotionally and shocked me to my core, but in a way i didn't feel like it hurt me. they are very raw and tough to get through at some points i won't lie. but they're amazing, some of the best things i've ever read, they're fascinating and visceral and i think should be enjoyed for what they are without the pressure of canon/non-canon, happy/bad ending. i do recommend like everyone else having a long break before reading them. as for homestuck2, i think you should wait even longer for 2 reasons. 1. they are very clearly in its early stages and finding their footing 2. hs2 itself is having a long hiatus, last i heard they were planning to finish the whole thing before posting at once. thank you again!

So, here's the TL;DR (Sorry for the 1-year-later reply, but if you still don't know anything about this); A super popular headcanon in the fandom was that J. Egbert was transfem. The name comes from a pesterlog where Vriska says "Joooooooo(...x8)hn", to which Egbert replies "haha i'm pronouncing that like a really long 'june'", there was a bunch of little crumbs that people latched onto, but lets skip to the important shit Andrew Hussie actually liked this headcanon, (according to an interview that came out before all this happened), and for Hussie's 40th birthday, he hid a box of signed toblerones in San Francisco. The first person to find one, when jokingly asked what they'd do as the "new Homestuck author", responded that they'd declare June Egbert to be real, pinging Hussie in the tweet. Hussie basically said "Alright sure, you were the first to find my Secret Treasure. So, it is done." TL;DR, June Egbert is the (technically-canon-though-not-in-any-official-material-yet) current name of the character.
