"We are not experts, so we trusted their judgement." This statement alone is so powerful for me because they set aside pride or whatsoever just to save those boys and their coach. It's really great to see nations helping each other and not the other way around. Props also to those citizens who willingly helped their govt to accomplish this mission. 🙌

That judgement came after the distrust towards foreign divers during early days of the rescue. They weren't allowed to dive, which made sense, a bunch of old white men who were civilians definitely looks sus. But it only took a few days to built rapport and trust, because the foreign divers managed to progress further, laid down the guide ropes, and found the boys first.

How the hell did these boys and their coach get so deep into the cae through those narrow passages? And WHY? ?? The coach randomly takes a group of kids into the cave for a walk KNOWING IT FLOODS?!?! It's shame one person had to die, many had to lose their rice fields which I'm sure cost them so much money and they aren't wealthy and thousandth of other people risking their lives and spending their hard earned money.. all to save 13 people that decided to navigate through such a dangerous place!

A beautiful story... the lady farmer brought me the most tears though, she is such a beautiful person, her words would always choke me for trying to hold on to my tears. I hope she has ten thousand folds of what she lost in helping the boys in return. Everyone who helped in rescuing the boys, from those directly involved down to those who helped in the littlest possible way... I couldn’t hold my tears. Those farmers are poor and hard working. They wished for the boys’ safety, so they had to sacrifice. The government knew they were affected, so offered compensations to them. This rescue mission involved a lot of kind-hearted people. It’s great that all efforts yielded happy results.

Gotta hand it to the Thai government/officials. They knew they were out of their depth with their search and rescue, so they asked for help early. It didn’t matter to them if it was foreigners who helped, they had no egos. They constituently asked and listened to experts advice on what to do, and followed thru with recommendations. Very true. Cave diving is such an elite specialty with diving that nobody but a properly trained and equipped cave diver can do it. If the Thai Government had insisted on using their navy seals or other local non cave divers the boys would have never been found and most likely the would be rescuers would have perished as well.

If only Koreans actually let foreigners help them during the Sewol Tragedy shipwreck, the students left in their cabins/rooms could have been saved. The Thai government is extremely amazing dealing with the rescue, they went through trial and errors and never gave up rescuing the boys. The coach is also amazing guiding everyone inside, while that captain from the Sewol Tragedy was the first one that got rescued. Watching the footages from the shipwreck just makes you frustrated and sad.

One I have learned over the years, Thai's are very generous especially in times of need, and during national situations like this. What I would say to people planning on visiting #Thailand is to go to Chiang Rai it doesn't recieve as many international tourists compared to Chiang Mai which is sad because North East Thailand is amazing, Traditional Thai culture is alive and well and the people are super nice. So if you have opportunity highly recommend Chiang Rai and then head down to Udon Thani & Khon Kaen, you will really enjoy it more so than Bangkok or Southern Thailand like Phuket ect.

As a Brit, you have to love Thai people, very organised and capable but not too proud to call for help when they needed it - they listened carefully to the the foreign divers, integrated their operations with the foreign divers and the Thai divers worked closely with them. Even the local villagers did everything they could in terms of helping feed and clean up. I love Thailand because of its people, it's definitely a special place. "We are not experts so we trusted their judgment", together they got the results.

They actually were wary of them initially, and had to be convinced they knew what they were talking about. However, they overcame those judgments and trusted them with their risky but necessary rescue method and it paid off. mission accomplished.

Absolutely. But there's a line we can hear in the longer version of the diver's video that breaks my heart completely. Apparently it's as the divers are preparing to leave: Adul says "See you tomorrow." After 10 days alone in the dark rescuers finally come, but now they're about to leave again. Will they really return tomorrow? Adul calmly, trustingly, bids them a polite goodbye. That, to me, most clearly shows the boys' bravery and strength of character. I think partly it's being Thai. (I would say being Buddhist, but Adul was the only Christian in the group!) I'm not sure kids from other countries would have handled this encounter with such grace and courageous acceptance.

雄人金子 I did. Many years ago in Hawaii apparently my Mother went diving with my Father. They decided to go for a swim in a Lava Tube (where hot lava did flow thru, but is not empty). It was huge, about 10 to 12 feet in diameter (around 3-4 meters). They had flash lights and it was supposed to be a short swim, maybe 10 minutes from the opening to the exit. Well, as they swam thru, they could see fish swimming bizarrely, since the fish essentially developed vertigo, or could not tell up from down. Seeing this made my Mother Panic since she too then instinctually lost her sense of up vs down. She started hyperventilating and panicking. My dad, who had more experience, grabbed her, and pulled her out the shortest way. She went thru a 1/2 hours worth of air in minuets. Cave diving is EXTREMELY dangerous. There was a “silly” movie about cave diving, but the DVD had an hour long special about actual cave divers, and how deadly it is. How in one underwater cave 4 brothers got lost....and they were later found dead holding hands together. Or how for decades 1 dead scuba diver was basically a land mark for other cave divers because no one knew who he was. They showed the remains still encased in his 70’s looking scuba gear. Yea. Based on the descriptions of the cave, putting the kids to sleep while carefully pulling them thru was the best call. Being is such conditions, and most could not even swim, would be terrifying and panic inducing.

It was actually worse than anyone realises. Much worse. As a former scuba diver myself, I have never dived in caves but have some idea of the myriad of things that can go wrong and get you killed. As Richard Harris, the Australian anaesthetist, said in his book, panic has killed more divers than running out of air. So Rick Stanton hatched the plan to anaesthetise the boys and get them out using positive pressure masks so they could breathe while unconscious. There was only one problem. This had never been done before. Never. There was no medical precedent and no diving precedent. Dr Richard Harris had to anaesthetise the team in circumstances that could not have been further removed from his operating theatre in Adelaide. Conditions were unsanitary, it was dark and difficult to see and to top it off, he lost his glasses somewhere in the dive to chamber 9. He had to guess the approximate weight of each of the boys and their coach and instead of the monitoring equipment he was used to, all he had was the sight of bubbles coming from the regulator. And what if they started to rouse during the dive out? All the divers were given a crash course in how to use syringes to give an intra-muscular anaesthetic. Syringes of Ketamine were distributed among the teams. Even so, a boy starting to come around would probably start to panic and could drown the rescuer so their hands and feet were bound. There was no other possibility. The four British divers, Rick Stanton, John Volanthen, Jason Mallinson and Chris Jewell, had to tow these unconscious boys through narrow passages with stalactites hanging from the roof. They had to protect the boys’ heads from being bashed against them by putting their own heads through first. What if the mask became dislodged? Simple: the boy would drown. The chances of this going catastrophically wrong were extreme. Nobody expected them all to come out alive but there was no choice. The oxygen levels in the cave were going down. Eventually, the water level would rise. If the carbon dioxide didn’t kill them, infection probably would because they were basically living in a toilet. One of the last boys to come out had a chest infection and almost stopped breathing on the way. When they took his mask off in chamber 8, someone rolled him over and he started breathing normally again. Eventually they were able to continue. One diver got lost towing one of the boys and ended up back in the chamber he had just come from. Eventually Harry Harris caught up with him and took the boy out but not without encountering serious problems and giving himself a serious scare in the murky water and tricky currents.

this is the story outside the cave and we also have a story inside. i would like to send my gratitude to their coach who stayed with them and kept them all alive. if you think about it, if they didnt have an adult supervision in there everything couldve gone wrong even before they were found. to be trapped inside a cave where you dont have food and water, its easy to panic that may cause harm to oneself. but i watched in other documentaries how their coach guided them and kept them positive. i think it was one of the crucial roles in this rescue. i sincerely thank their coach for keeping a leveled mind and comforting them in this kind of situation 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👂👏👏👏 thank you to everyone that helped 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

i heard. the pumps failed as soon as the mission accomplished. the water rising while there's still a lot of rescuers inside the cave. they literally had to run for their lives. it makes me think. if the rescue mission was delayed, by a day, or even just by hours later than they did. it couldve been disasterous. some people might die during the rescue. that fact.. actually left me a huge respect for the governor. a decisive man indeed. been so long since i see a true leader.

Phenomenal. First, Rest in Peace Saman. He will be forever the hero who showed the ultimate commitment. He really showed how determined were the Thai Navy Seals to work and acheive the best they could. The individual work was immense. The sense of unity that brought people together is beyond powerful. The guy that volunteered the pumps drove 900km, and what that lady farmer spoke was probably the best part. Logistically the thai authorities were fascinating. The faith in human strength and the common good that brought the community (and the world) together is what opened the success window for this operation in the worst situation ever. The british divers are real life heroes, and not for them nothing could have been possibly acheived. This is an example of how strong and caring are Thai people, and the importance of unity and skill sharing in life or death situations.

I had zero knowledges about this issue before but when Lalisa from BLACKPINK uploaded it on her Instagram, i did a lot of searches about it, reading the chronologies, watching the process until how the rescuers finally succeeded in bringing all the boys and the coach safely and healthily out from the cave. I am so extremely sorry that an amazing HERO'S life was lost during this rescue. (God bless this ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MAN. And lord please be with his entire family) And I thank every single person who volunteered in any way shape or form! Each one of you are HERO'S!!! It took a village from across the universe. EVERYONE CAME TOGETHER!! And to each rescue diver..... I don't have the proper words for you HERO'S! But THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING EVERYTHING you had to accomplish something so dangerous for souls you didn't even know! You're the true meaning of A HERO! Bless everyone!!!

my heart just melt away watching this clip. Thai people are kind and unity. my eyes were tearful and emotional. how beautiful our universe would be if all of us have same thought like the Lady (owner of rice farm) and unity and kindness all the time. :)
