Why do these posts of The Queen attending American film premieres fascinate me so? I am mesmerized. Lee Remick looks so pretty. The gentlemen are on their good behavior, seemingly charmed. Best of all is last, Barbara greeting The Queen. Barbra looks so calm, poised and relaxed with no nervous energy. An unusual continuing serene lovely smile across her face as she chats... I was at that premier and still have the brochure signed by James Caan. Barbra Streisand walked past me....I was on an end aisle seat....she looked beautuful in real life. Apparently, in the line up, she asked the queen why she had to wear gloves to meet her. A night I have never forgotten.

@@theodorasingeractor Hello.....yes it was more rose coloured than lavender. She looked absolutely stunning in it. Before the film began she, and other stars, were presented on the stage. James Stewart was one. She swept across the stage and did a huge twirl in that cape. Amazing night.

They all look very posh, especially the Queen, Barbra, and Lee Remnick. Ive just finished Barbra's autobiography. She said she asked the Queen why women had to wear gloves but the men didn't. Apparently the Queen said she'd have to think about it but thought it was just tradition. Barbra said she kind of wished she hadn't asked afterwards, but I don't think she should've felt bad. Fair question really.

Barbra tells the story how British fingers wagged at her after this meeting with the queen because she initiated a conversation on why women were supposed to wear gloves when greeting others but the same wasn’t expected of men. It was something she’d wondered about, and her boyfriend at the time, Jon Peters (standing behind her here) prompted her to go ahead and ask about it. Evidently one wasn’t to initiate conversation with the queen but was to wait and see if she initiated conversation. At any rate, Barbra looked gorgeous, as usual (and the queen seemed fine with the whole interaction).

Jon Peters - one of the biggest creeps ever to storm Hollywood, take everyone for a ride, and leave a trail of destruction. He didn't quite derail Streisand's career, but he came close. First he produced her Butterfly album, but they had to call in a professional to re-do everything he messed up. He produced "A Star Is Born", but mostly created chaos and conflict with everyone else involved. And he was, by and large, a truly rotten influence on Streisand's choices. Before Peters she had a run of good to excellent films that, even where they weren't perfect, demonstrated her versatility. In the Peters years she did junk like The Main Even and All Night Long (mostly for the money) or just didn't work. More recently he attempted to write a book that promised to peddle various tawdry stories about Streisand's past, but she managed to shut him down. Oh, and he's been grappling with a string of sexual harassment lawsuits. A real piece of work.
