If you are active and learn to take advantage of the opportunities that your environment offers like skiing and skating in winter and swimming in lakes in summer, you are likely to benefit greatly at older age. The skills and habits you have learned will assist in your well-being. I am old person myself, not in at her age but anyway. It would be mentally and physically very challenging to learn to skiing and other skills at my age. Not impossible. But it would be difficult to achieve the balance, coordination and even to believe that I could learn and start to enjoy these activities. There is initial learning curve, a barrier, to overcome until it becomes enjoyable.

I assume you already know better, but for others I would mention: If you're in cold and dressed for it, but still feeling it uncomfortably, don't concentrate on that feeling and don't keep repeating it is cold etc. Your body will handle it, but you must help it and give it opportunity. Try not to become stiff, tense less moving. Keep on moving. Let your body's autonomous systems to handle the situation and give them some time to do so. I often go out and first I don't really even notice cold. Then it starts to feel and even good winter clothing can feel cold. But as I continue my walking, perhaps with higher tempo for warm up, soon my body has warmed up and the same gloves can start to feel too warm. But of course you also need to understand that cold can also cause serious damage. So, caution is needed and there are limits one needs to learn to respect to stay safe.

How did you learn to speak Finnish so well?

I don't think there is any other way than just hearing, using and practicing the language a lot with other people. Having native speakers around you helps a lot in the process.

She might have a special advantage in having a nice approachable personality. She might find it easier take contact and speak with others than more reserved people.

I took it easy and i always accept to be corrected. Never struggle to be perfect. Learn something new every day. For me i love to be with people. Here in Finland most people are reserved but my personality is different. I choice to remain original and not bury my real me. I always love to be corrected and through my mistakes i learnt alot. Life is a learn process.

@@Ilona_Ke There is a lot of variation in languages and Finnish is no exception. People might also "correct" you simply because they would like you to speak like them or in some more familiar way. They like to show their own dialects or accents or slang... And language is also always evolving. New words become popular etc, new idioms are invented all the time.. Different generations of people speak differently, different social groups have their own styles... Language is also a tool for building cohesion in groups. That means that it is actually relevant to speak like others in the group, unless you intentionally want to keep some distance or show your own different identity. This cohesion building seems to happen at subconscious level so you cannot really control it. But being aware of it can help to suppress it so that it doesn't lead to unwanted consequences.

You tell you're on your way to cast your vote in the second round of the presidential election. You say that elections are very different from the ones in Kenya, your original home country. But then you drop this topic. You don't mention much anything about the election. You don't mention candidates or what the differences between them are. You also don't mention the outcome of the election. You perhaps had some reasons making these choices?

@@Ilona_Ke It was obvious during the last presidential election campaigning and also after the election in Finland that all parties and candidates tried to behave and be respectful to others to show that they are not like American or some other countries political movements and politicians. It was a reaction to what people had witnessed in some other countries. Also the role of the President pf Finland is different and comes with different tradition and expectations. The Presidency is expected to stay above party politics and domestic politics, except in exceptional situations. The President is leading foreign politics and only indirectly influencing other things in collaboration with the State Council he is leading.

@@Ilona_Ke I don't know much about Kenyan political life. But of course I read news about elections, which become international news. I try not to comment on it. The Finnish tribal history seems so distant. People in Finland do have some local regional identities, but it is nothing like what exists still in Africa. There are still sore points like the status of Saame people. And of course we have immigration, which has treated fairly sizable subcultures or tribes within or outside the Finnish society. All this isn't without challenges. Life is never simple.
