We were all impressed by the new art team this arc but this episode itself is something else. @@jaytazbilly9322 It depends, there's no set difference. For example, episode 957 and 958 adapted chapter 956 and 957 respectively, while episode 1015 adapted chapter 1000. I think a lot of Act 3 adapts half a chapter for one episode.

Episodes like this are very rare because they take so much time. This is one of those Heavy Hitter episodes. So they give it the to the Chinese animators to make. It took them 4 months. Just like the fight scene in the last Naruto movie.

Episodes like these rare mainly because of the time it takes to produce one not budget. One Piece anime budget is already top tier, but episodes like these needs months to produce that's why we get one only couple of times per year.

Hawk is a small bird, Roc is a mythical Giant bird (think of an eagle/hawk the size of a jumbo jet Airliner) Then double it. That's the size of a full grown Roc generally.

This is so late to the game, but the reason Kaido has a mythical Fish-Fish fruit (the model is most likely Koi/Carp) is because, in Japanese folklore a dragon is a koi that has grown to such a size that it eventually becomes what they call a "dragon"; the long, snake-like version that makes up dragons in East Asia like in China, Korea and Japan. Koi never stop growing over the course of their lives, so that's where the idea comes from. Just a weird cultural tidbit I figure people are confused about.

It's not really a budget issue as to why One Piece looks the way it does, usually. It's a time issue. One Piece is produced on a weekly basis and animators just don't have time to produce masterpieces with that heavy schedule. Every so often though we get miracles like this from extremely talented directors, storyboarders, animators, and every other branch I did not mention that comes together and sleeps under their desk for one episode of an anime. (Technnically the answer is and is not money.) Since an artist would be willing to invest more time with more money, but because some of the more expereinced people bounce around different projects, sometimes they are not available. (Point being, there is a lot of factors but time is the most pressing matter when it comes to One Piece and other weekly running shows.)
