I think Squidward acts kind of in a real manner tho,and kind of the only way I could see his character interacting on a playful style with Spongebob and Patrick,like,you know when you're with a group of friends and they are doing/going to do something stupid but you stick around saying "dude,this is stupid",not really helping or giving any effort and just making the "I'm not enjoying this" face but in reality you're having tons of fun with your pals? ...uhn...yeah me neither.

Another really good review alpha jay! I myself thought this episode was Decent. It made me laugh, had a solid plot, and I had a good time, and that's all I could ask for from a Spongebob episode. I know this review is old but I still wanna say something Squidwards character in some of the new episodes is probably a very hard one to do (other then patrick) since most people think he hates and despises both spongebob and Patrick. But in all honesty , how I see his character is a guy who doesn't have any friends but 2 (I won't lie kind of annoying) neighbors who consider him a friend so he finds them annoying but actually likes being around them because he knows they like him no matter how snarky ,sarcastic and rude he can be which I feel he likes that because a key note in post movie is he doesn't have any friends so that's why I like this episode it really shows his character without him being scared or afraid of the others he's just annoyed (Sorry this is long but I don't know I mean squidward isnt my favorite character but I do like seeing the character like this )

@@grimlord3181 I'd say Feral Friends was more of a Squidward torture porn than this one. And Alpha Jay praises that shitty uninspired episode too. This episode was actually enjoyable. In Feral Friends, Squidward is tortured then made into the Kraken villain in his feral state (which was cool asf (while it lasted) and due to this, the writer wrote one of the dumbest and cringiest endings justifying he get tortured further. The writer of that episode Mr. Lawrence, (the voice actor of Plankton and also the WRITER of the atrocious One Coarse Meal episode) like I was telling a friend, near the ending of Feral Friends made Squidward Pearl's bitch and it felt like One Coarse Meal 2.0. They agreed.

I’m fairly sure the reason Squidward went along with the game, despite its flaws, is because he wanted to beat Patrick at his own game. A lot of episodes that feature Squidward revolve around his competitive nature-he’s always trying to prove he can outdo SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squilliam. The best example of this is the episode “Employee of the Month,” since Squidward didn’t really take pride in his work, he just wanted to prove he could beat SpongeBob. Also check out “Band Geeks,” “Club SpongeBob,” “Snowball Effect,” “Squilliam Returns,” “The Great Snail Race,” and “The Camping Episode.”

It helps that Squidward wasn't punished because he didn't enjoy himself, he wasn't punished because he left the game, he wasn't punished for his harsh overly negative criticism, he was punished because he blew up and destroyed the game and attacked Patric... and his punishment wasn't excessive either. . Actually this is probably the WORST Squidward has been allowed to act without anything really all that bad happening (Being excessively negative and kind of mean to Patric). There have been times Squidward has been punished for doing the right thing. . Add in that EVERYONE has been treating him nicely and haven't REALLY been bothering him (relatively)... This is probably one of the few later episodes that highlight that Squidward is Spongebob's friend.

Patrick the Game is one of my favorite episodes, for...unusual reasons. When I was in 8th grade I got in an argument with one of my friends over if Squidward was a squid or octopus. He thought Squidward was a squid and I thought Squidward was an octopus. My evidence was "in the bonus features of the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, someone high-up said Squidward was an octopus (also he has a round head like an octopus and not a pointy head like a squid); his evidence "his name is SQUIDward, if he was an octopus he would be called Octoward." No matter what evidence I brought, he wouldn't accept it because "well they never say it in the series, so you have no real evidence either." The argument basically ended in a stale mate. 10 years later I saw this episode, and Squidward said "I'm an octopus." I found the clip and sent it to him saying "see, right here, Squidward says I'm an octopus, I was right, I just won the argument from 10 years ago." He said "OK you win, Squidward's an octopus, I can't believe you still remember that."

Patrick! The Game is starting to show an obvious improvement in a show that I'd personally considered unsalvageable after its obvious decline in quality. I found myself staring in awe at my screen at how... genuinely GOOD it was. I've only really been trying to keep track of Spongebob to note its bad points, and only its bad points, because I wasn't thinking to expect some REALLY GOOD high points; which is a mistake on my part. Squidward, Patrick, Spongebob, and Sandy are all acting like how real friends SHOULD for the first time in, well... FOREVER. Of course, they're all token characters on the surface, and they all add something to the party. We're going to expect Squidward to be grumpy and to complain about things. That's just his character. The fact that no one made a huge deal about it out of anger or frustration show a sense of understanding between the group. The actual playing of the board game gave me a feeling very reminiscent of some college friends just sitting down and hanging out. It's one of the first scene in post-movie Spongebob that I can say actually brought a smile to my face. Unfortunately, the ending felt like a punch in the face to me. After everything before it being heartwarming and funny, it just, like you said, came out of nowhere. The gags could get a small chuckle or a smile, I suppose, but in my personal opinion, should have been left out of the episode entirely. Ruining the ending just for a cheap laugh is not a good excuse by any means. Though, I guess you shouldn't expect perfection from modern Spongebob, eh? Once again, wonderful review, Jay. This episode should be appreciated for what it offers to an unfathomably terrible show: A sort of hope that change will come soon, and bring back the Spongebob that everyone fell in love with back in the early 2000's. I now look forward to the upcoming episodes of this series- be it good or bad.

The best part of this episode is the fact that spongebob squidward Patrick and sandy are all hanging out together. Also the fact squidward is sitting next to spongebob on the couch confirms the fact squidward doesn’t actually hate spongebob he just finds him annoying or to different from him. I’m a squidbob shipper so sue me but i stand by my opinion that squidward is tsundere but the characters are often written incorrectly to be just awful. I.e spongebob being annoying because he’s silly, childish n optimistic (has crush on squidward) to being written into a (creepy squidward stalker) who doesn’t think about others feelings because he’s stupid. It’s the flanderization that ruins these episodes tbh

I Really liked the sewer episode right after this one, while not another Patrick episode, it was a Squidward and Spongebob episode, and it is actually a good episode, and also not gross even though they are in a sewer! and it is also somewhat fast paste, but not jarring and disrupting, it actually felt like a, well, what a Spongebob Squarepants episode should feel like! and what's more, Squidwards behavior is also a positive in the episode, and at this point you must be thinking, there HAS to be a grossout scene in this episode,.. and well, the closest thing to a grossout scene would be, and sorry about a minor spoiler, but it's when two leeches latch onto Squidwards eyes, i wont tell the scene of itself, but i have to say when i saw the scene, i was at first worried that people who have a *Sensitivity* with eye harm would really not like the scene, but they actually handed it really well, making it feel not painful, but Slapstick in nature. I know it's late, but if you ever see this comment, i really hope you eventually make a video about this episode, because it makes for a really great modern Spongebob episode, and even a great and enjoyable Squidward and Spongebob episode.

Are you gonna review Season 10? It's an... Alright season for me so far. The plots they made really aren't that special. For some reason, they REALLY simplified the plots in the episodes. I'm thinking it's probably to test the new animation style, but for being the TENTH SEASON of SpongeBob, they barely did anything that was memorable. My favorite episodes so far are "MermaidPants", "Mimic Madness", "Krusty Katering", "Life Insurance", "Sportz?", and "The Getaway". I love the concepts of these episodes, and am surprised they never did this before. :)

the squidward jail portion reminds me when i was playing D&D and i challenged a dwarf to a drinking contest as a dwarf and i get fucked up. My party doesn't help me and we get into combat as i was fucked up. The DM showed mercy and sobbered me up, but right after the first encounter, I had to leave to drive home.
