That last line is a bit hypocritical, when there’s a scene earlier in the episode (a deleted scene for a good few years, but still) where he basically asks SpongeBob to come outside with him and Sandy. Why would he suddenly become serious a few hours later when he didn’t care about SpongeBob’s essay beforehand?

To me, Patrick was funny because of his blunt, yet easygoing philosophy. Like, he’s the kind of friend who, despite looking like he hasn’t got that much, or not much of a clue in general, he still felt like he had everything worked out. Even if he was wrong, you still could follow his flawed logic; you could understand why he’d think the way he did, and that was funny, because we’ve all known a person like that. We’ve also known people who are beyond stupid, and those are more annoying than funny.
