I think one of the take away's I get from narrow boating.Is that you really immerse yourself in a side of life that you just simply would not experience from a car on the road.

You are so right Andrea! We often say that you get a totally different viewpoint of the UK from the canals and rivers. Even places we have been through many times before by car look so different from the waterways. It’s a beautiful way to see our country 😊

Caroline - We have finally arrived!! Picked up our boat at Nantwich. Loaded up, went through some training, had a 15 minute training cruise and we were on our own. Boat is 66 feet long. Steering is fun. Have become acquainted with the Shroppy Shelf a few times - or 6. Canal is so narrow under some of these bridges. Hit our first lock a few miles up the Middlewich Branch of the Shroppy. Went without a hitch even though we had plenty of observers to make us very self conscious. Moored up beside a pasture, sipped wine on the front deck, cooked supper and worked on journals. Decent weather. 1 day down with no mishaps. What fun. Thank you for getting us excited about Narrowboating.

This is so exciting to hear Scott! So glad we inspired you to try narrowboating. We wish we were closer and could pop and see you, but we are down south making our way to Crick for the boat show. The Shroppie is so beautiful, you’ve chosen well. Looks like the weather forecast is perfect for you too, spring has finally sprung properly! Have a wonderful time and keep us updated 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard Weather today was perfect! Boated for nine hours through all sorts of locks and beautiful scenery. So many helpful people at locks. They are known as "gongoozlers", I believe, in some YT videos. Other boaters are so friendly and highly tolerant of our "hire boat" ignorance and ineptitude. Heading to the Anderton Boat Lift Museum tomorrow.

Yes that’s right, gongoozlers love watching canal goings on, and you’ve already experience how wonderful the boating community is! There’s a floating café on the canal in Braunston called the Gongoozler’s Rest, which is perfectly named! Looks like the weather is going to stay gorgeous for the rest of the week. You chose a perfect time 😍

@@onedaymoreaboard We are done. What a grand experience. Oh, the people we met at locks........ Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Wish we knew on day one what we knew on day seven. Thanks for the inspiration and advice. We are off to a long shower in the Cotswolds, then a week in the Lake Region before a few days in London and a flight back to start retirement.

Lovely to see Crick again. Some expert manoeuvring in that marina by Pete. I used to love doing all that feathering and shifting of the tiller. Crazy how quiet Paul and Anthony’s electric boat is. I still like the sound of a Nanni diesel to remind you of how much power you are putting down. I reckon I could say the words “Fellows, Morton & Clayton” to most people and they wouldn’t have a clue what I was talking about. But here…. Different story. I miss being home and being on the canal network. Already looking forward to your next video. Thanks Caroline and Pete 🇦🇺🫶🏻🇬🇧

Thanks so much Christopher, we love comments like yours! The next video will be highlights of our trip to Stratford and back. The filming was a little sporadic as it was during the time when my Dad’s health was deteriorating rapidly, and I was backwards and forwards between my parents’ house, the hospital and the boat for quite some time. After that trip we took a break from filing over the winter so that we could catch up, and in the next few weeks you’ll be seeing much more current videos! 😊

Hi John, it's actually a website we use to plan journeys and give an estimate of time and distance, CanalPlanAC canalplan.uk/. There isn't currently an app for this site. When we are cruising we use the Nicholsons Waterways Guides, as we prefer hard copy maps to refer to. However there is an app available, Open Canal Map, that you can use to track your route that shows the same sort of details as the Nicholsons guides. Hope this helps 👍

@onedaymoreaboard
@onedaymoreaboard 8 ай бұрын
No chance of us quitting just yet, if ever! Who knows what the future holds. That’s a very good question! We are thinking of doing a Q&A video in the next few weeks so we will address it some more then, but off the top of our heads the major things we would say are firstly, do a helmsman course. It was so worth the investment, and made us feel a lot more confident with our prized possession! Secondly, start declutterring and clearing out way sooner than you think, and half everything you think you will need on board, especially your clothes. And thirdly, don’t try and plan everything, and be OK with that, as our plans have changed all the time for all sorts of reasons, waterways closures, family issues, health issues, you name it. Enjoy the slow pace and don’t make plans to be somewhere specific on a very exact date as that’s when it gets stressful! 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard Great tips, some stuff you mentioned I am already doing and planned so I am glad that I'm thinking right about it. "Enjoy the slow pace." That is what I am looking forward to, now self employed I can calm down to a lesser stress life. I feel like living on a narrowboat as a continuous cruiser will force me to be active enough to enjoy and slow me down enough to keep me relaxed.... Until I forget to empty a cassette toilet one day I am seeing that happening to me a few times in the first year🤣
