Hi Amy! Happy New Year!!! I can relate to what you said about being surprised that big Red wasn't a prolific bloomer this year 😵‍💫. My first fish of blooms on my "Flo", was magnificent,but,then very little to no bud success👎. It looks healthy but not as showyy as last year. I have several large thanksgiving cactus thanksgiving cactus in my East window and they also didn't show as well.😵‍💫. My small cactus,4 inch pots are still reblooming.???????????? I'm not sure what happened this year.

Hi Ellen! Thanks for your comment...it's really a mystery sometimes, why they bloom so well one year and the next year....not so much so. I've been considering the possibility that they have their good years, and their not-so-great years. I know sometimes it's that way with orchids sometimes. I think I'm going to start a small Big Red and grow it in front of the glass doors, and see how it blooms. I'm also still wondering if 2 LED lights is enough for this gargantuan plant! Happy New Year! 🎉 I don't think my big red had any buds last year. She needed to take a year of rest! I moved her to a cold room, southern window, grow light, and Epsoma organic cactus fertilizer. She is absolutely Incredible this year!!! I have never seen so many blooms on her. Maybe this is just your big red's year of rest. My vanda orchid didn't bloom last year. She bloomed this winter but I do believe she's tired and Done. Sometimes we just have to say goodbye. I think I'll replace her with another mini dendrobium, if I can find one. The one I have blooms multiple times each year and she now has Two flower spikes! 😀🥰 Have a Blessed year. 🙋‍♀️

Hi Tammy! You make a really good point...sometimes they do bloom better some years than others. I'm also wondering if Big Red needs more light. I don't think 2 large LED lights is enough for this huge plant! Sorry to hear about your Vanda. You grow mini Dens so well, I think that's your niche! So much of growing orchids (and plants) is finding what works for you and what you have success with. Happy New Year!! 😇🐕🌺🎉⚘

Another great video, Amy. Following advice I got from your videos earlier in the year, my Thanksgiving cacti have all been delightful in their flowering. I have had cacti bloom that I've never seen bloom before. Some colors were a great surprise, some a disappointment. My peach plant that I really looked forward to blooming turned out to have a red bloom. Oh, well. They were still pretty blooms! This spring I will re-pot into larger containers the starter plants I bought last year. I'm excited about this new year and all the happy anticipation that comes with it! Happy New Year!

I don't know if you got my other message. I got a Christmas cactus. It bloomed beautifully. It is growing now. It is in a pot with no drainage holes. Should I repot now or wait until spring. I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year.

Hi Lisa! I would go ahead and repot it...especially if it's already growing. It's going to be really hard to water it without drainage holes. Your other message must have been lost out there somewhere...sometimes that happens. Happy New Year!! 😇🐕🌺

What do you do as far as fertilizing after all the blooms are gone?

Last year I used MSU slow release fertilizer for orchids during the growing season. It worked great. Before that, I used the fertilizer I used with my orchids because that's what I have on hand. Happy growing!

Amy I’m thankful you posted this video, I was starting to get discouraged with my cacti. They bloomed beautifully & then came the warmer weather (here in Texas). A lot of my buds turned mushy like yours and the peach one just totally stopped. My Samba, Outono & Red are still budding some. Just wondering if you think they all might possibly bloom again if the weather turns cold again 🤦🏼‍♀️? Oh well, I really enjoyed their beauty in full bloom. Many blessings to you, my friend🌸🌼🌺.
