I see so many faces of friends I once had and by God's grace will forever have. Being in Chorale now brings so many new friends into my life. I can't wait to see what God works in and through me these next few years, especially as being part of this wonderful choir :).

I feel close to God listening to these people sing. That's one of my favorite passages too.

How can students sit so passively and still with such glorious praise triumphantly ringing through the chapel? No expression or joyfulness evident along with the words they sing. It's so surreal - the visuals doesn't match the audio. Just wonderful orchestration and singing I wish more of the world can experience.

Agree with you, except to say I'm sure many of the students are responding and participating inwardly. God sees the heart. But I would love to see more outward expression from those who are genuinely moved, as I'm sure the Lord would. This is wonderful, as you say. Praise the Lord!

I suspect this is what you get with "mandatory" worship.

They were singing. Didn't you notice the audience participation? The director was directing the whole student body and they were all singing. What do you want? Cartwheels down the aisles?

I am a student this year, and I can say we are singing it just doesn’t pick up on the microphones. (You can see @ 10:55) The music is moving in hearts. It is a formal setting more so than what you’d find in a typical southern church. We are not allowed to applause as we believe it 1) may disrupt a heart being moved and 2) is seen by some Christian circles to glorify the performers instead of God. At the points where the readers are reciting verses together, the audience is also reciting the verses in unison, again which does not pick up on the stream. While there are some people who never pay attention to service, there are others who do participate.

I visited BJU campus years ago to encourage and support a lovely girlfriend. The dress code was refreshing! I came across this by cross-site and I thought I was seeing a rehearsal! Casual, Friday button shirts, open down without a t-shirt let alone a tie! This would have been a "skit" by the drama department the week I attended the public performances!

What you may not know is that this was just a regular class day chapel service. The faculty graciously provided the student body with a special Thanksgiving opportunity to sing praise to the Lord instead of the typical chapel format of preaching. But the students went from this service back to regular classes (and that includes those who were singing and playing on the platform). Not saying this to change your opinion, just trying to provide some helpful context, and encouraging thoughtful consideration. It was a very meaningful and refreshing chapel service. I know, because I was there.

As a former BJU student of the 1970’s I am deeply troubled by this extreme fall of standards from the past at this once great university.

yes it is very sad. A definite decline in dress standards and music.
