I think i know how the snap works. All six stones are needed indeed Hear me out The power stone enhances the users strength and it also empowers the other stones-hence he is able to perform the snap. The space stone TARGETS the universe and carries the efect across it The reality stone makes the users wish into reality-basically like a genie The soul stone targets the living beings in the universe and destroys them according to the users will-hence random deaths The time stone targets everything in the past present and future which basically makes the snap irreversible if not for all the six stones together to erase the effect And finally the mind stone BINDS them all together according to the MIND of the user- Thanos says to the stones basically do this and this and the stones comply because the mind stone controls them- which is why i also think its in the center of the glove Just a thought

I like to think that the snap is like making a wish. And i guess you're right,Thanos want to wipe half of the universe so be it. Hulk wants to bring back half of the universe that Thanos wipe and so be it and finally,Tony want Thanos and all of his army to be wiped and so be it,the only differents is Tony died due to him cant handle the stones.

The power stone is not like the others. The other 5 stones can be held even by a human, like Hawkeye with the soul stone But the power stone is raw, literally unlimited power. In endgame we saw it did the same thing to thanos as it did to Starlord in the first GOTG. The power stone is the only one that hurts to hold

Thing is, the reality stone only changes everything when thanos is present or when he wants too. Its not very clear as they never address this so im not sure. So the stone will only make it seem like half of the world is dead while thanos is around, but once he goes away, everything will come back to normal.
