I don't think it's as much to boost sales for the Eternals as much as it is to make them a relevant element of the overall Marvel universe. So they don't have to go through these never ending cycles of short term appearances that have to serve as an origin/introduction for them every time somebody wants to use the characters again.

I've realized that comic continuity is basically a game of telephone. Each writer seems to have heard the previous material a little differently, and you end up with each writer doing slightly different things with characters.

Writing out the whole X gene seems like a bad idea, but it could be some kind of hybrid. Like the X gene gets triggers or amplified by the deviant gene or something. Or maybe just some of the mutants, like Nightcrawler and Beast with physical changes, are half deviant. Very curious to where this is going.

I personally didn't interpret Druig's conclusion as Kieron and Marvel changing the mutants history, more like it's Druig's/Eternal's way of interpreting the x-gene mutation. He's basically saying the only to describe the x-gene is deviation since to him they are deviating from how humans where created and are supposed to exist, especially now that they've also found a method to resurrect themselves. To Druig, any being that deviates from its original design is exactly that... a deviant.

My issue with the Judgment Day story is the new change to the fact that mutants are no longer the result of the third set of man the Celestials manipulated in their experiment (man people just won’t leave Kirby’s origin for the existence of all super powered being on Earth alone) but are now an off shoot of the Deviants…come on Marvel the Eternals suck and the movie was even worse, stop using the X-Men to help boost their popularity for the MCU

Eh, it'll pass. Messing the mutant populations origins is tradition at this point. Just wait, after the event finishes, some random writer will come out and make a retcon saying the machine was just malfunctioning and that mutants were never offshoot deviants. Hell, the celestial may come down in a later event and say the mutants are the third set of man again. We'll just have to wait. It's not like it matters anyway. Kirby's origin is like 40 years old and only die hards truly care about it, with an even smaller percentage find thinking that it changing is problematic. This'll pass and comics will be comics. Rob has said this plenty of times. The X men will go back to status quo soon enough, until am event needs them to change again.

It's bigger than that as Arrako & Krakoa used to be one island called Okkara it's implied that the Island was an Eternal but something caused deviation to occur Apocalypse severed part of the island not realizing that is what he was fighting believing these deviant creatures were demons of some kind, by preventing the spread to Krakoa it remains an Eternal which is why Druig was prevented from attacking the Island with Eternal technology. IMO, The Eternals flee Okkara after one of the Eternals triggers deviation in the island hoping the Island would mutate them into a form that could reproduce but this deviation somehow goes very wrong leading the Eternals to build The Great Machine which duplicates what Okkara provided for them.

It's like so many other things. Thanos is super powerful. Then a writer just does away with him like he is nothing. They really need someone with some power to stop writes from either overpowering or underpowering characters. It's already messed up how someone beats up everyone and then some C level person beats them. It's bad enough they create these people to powerful to use. Then the next time you see them they are no longer what they were. Thor, Hulk. a lot of others.

That crazy Destructorite distraction. 😄 Sprite taking Starbrand their security system "offline" to go play. 🤣 The Eternals and Avengers mid-fight, then *oh crap gotta save the world* and both sides stand down (aside from Thor and Ajak). And what struck me most was Thanos, who is so powerful but _truly dangerous_ because he's strategic and intelligent, being killed by a traitorous snake who could never battle him, but instead _outsmarted_ him. 😯 Nice.
