Darkseid is so powerful that the very presence of his true self in the same universe would kill everything and everyone in that universe. Including Thanos. And all of the Avengers. And the Asgardians. Hell, even the cosmic entities. That's how powerful he is. Darkseid could have won that fight at any point. He chose to let Thanos fight him, to struggle "toe to toe," only to eventually show him just how futile it was. Darkseid's AVATAR wins nearly every time. Not even his true form, but a vastly weaker representation. Any time Superman has "beaten" Darkseid, that's what he beat - a shadow of his true self. Darkseid could have used the Omega Sanction at any point. He chose not to. Darkseid let Thanos have that sliver of hope, only to destroy it, and Thanos, utterly and completely. Because that's who Darkseid is. He is the essence of tyranny. He will build you up just so he can bring you low. He will let you see the sun so that, when you are engulfed in darkness, your misery is that much sweeter. THAT is who Darkseid is.

Darkseid is, pretty much, DC's End Boss. Thanos was actually created as Marvel's version of Darkseid, and he was almost immediately made a lot weaker. And Jerry's right - you can't kill Darkseid. As of the most recent canon, Darkseid is a universal force. The universe has to have a Darkseid, at this point. As broken as Superman is, Darkseid is that much more broken.

There's 3 ways to kill Darkseid. 1. Counter frequency. Darkseids true form is still made of vibrational energy. Hit it with the right counter frequency and that's death 1. 2. Sealing his essence. Though it's not an actual death you can seal Darkseids essence away. But you'll need a Death like being (Black Racer, Nekrom, Death) to seal it. 3. The Astro-Force. In DC multiverse, there others characters that make Darkseid and Superman look weak, like Trigon, Mr Myx, Spectre, Lucifer Morningstar, Fenris, Ellaine Belloc. And actually the only reason that Darkseid avatar lose to Justice League, or Superman alone, is for plot-sake. Darkseid is always nerfed when close of Superman, because DC don't want make their main hero look pathetic.

Spectre have the Wrath of God, and once de-powered Mr Myx. Lucifer Morningstar have the Lightbringer and Will of God, being the second most powerfull in DC multiverse, at least officially. Ellaine Belloc is heir of Presence/Creator, an is the actual ruler of DC multiverse.

I don’t know if y’all are going to read this but thanos do fight some marvel heroes and villains who are stronger than Superman or some versions of him. The heroes I can think of off the top of my head is Odin, Sentry, Hyperion, Thor and maybe hulk. Don’t get me wrong. I like dc but i love marvel more. Their are some dc characters I love more than marvel characters, but when it comes to thanos and Darkseid I love thanos more. Edit: Oh and theirs also silver surfer and Dr strange
