Think abt a person in OC category studying in a govt school. The system is completely against him/her. Studying in a big school in city with tuitions and complaining abt reservations is idiotic. But studying in a big school in city with tuitions and utilizing reservation is even worse. Because he/she is denying that place to some one in a village from a govt school, from his own community. Now if govt decides to change the system as mentioned by rangaraj pandey, these affluent and powerful members of these communities will block it.. The rich and powerful in these communities will continue enjoying the benefits while the poor will remain poor..

BC MBC need reservation even if they are rich and are a huge chunk of the reservation. Why? With the rise of Hindutuva politics - they might even implement Kulakalvi system as suggested by Rajaji 70 years back then even people of BC MBC will be disadvantaged. So reservation here is protection. So the day caste is abolished reservation shall become useless. You talk about Poor OC student from village and studying in govt school. This same student if still proud of his caste then there is no use in asking seat under reservation. Even today only Brahmins are priests in temples even if it does not support them economically. Tell them to do another job and let those who want to be priest across other castes become priest. If u study the history of Tamilnadu from sangam period or for that matter of fact any history u would understand that anything is possible and that is the reason that i dont laugh at myself. problem with reservation is that the person who have already benefited from it by getting job/college admission there children get it again. Hence until creamy layer of ST/SC/OBC is implemented until then there will no upliftment of ST/SC/Tribal. There should be a rule , if you use reservation facility post getting job, your family from then on can't take reservation. Iam a reserved category person, only rich people are getting benefited by the reservation others are deprived of the opportunities. To counter this the reservation must be purely based in financial status which is possible only by tracking all the transactions of individuals. There is a difference btw Non SC/ST Student and people from SC/ST Community getting 90% of marks. Most of Non SC/ST students go to Private institution by paving heavy tuition fee, even after that get just 90%. (Some even go to tuition still fail exams) Where as "Majority" of the people from the SC/ST community attend govt schools, work after school go through caste discrimination endure casteist slurs, after all this get 90% marks. (Note: Not all SC/ST student get seat under reservation but only those who get 90% above among get seats- there is quality here). Now tell me who is the deserved candidate. Those who speak of equality - Most of Non SC/ST students did not go to a govt school how is that equality, where as most of the SC/ST students still attend government schools(eg: my village where only students of SC/ST community attend govt schools, others from the same village attend private schools). In America more than 75% attend public schools run by govt. Reservation shall go the day when there is no caste discrimination. There was a reservation for more than 2000 years which the non SC/ST community enjoyed and became fat now when the plate is turned the other way you what the reservation to go. Still there is 100% reservation for Brahmins to become priest no one who wants reservation to be done off talks about that. I am not allowed to touch the god and not allowed to enter the garbha graha which is pure discrimination. For those who speak of equality - what if you were born in a different family? We need to put ourselves in others place if we want to establish equality. First talk to your family to denounce caste before asking the government to drop reservation. Even the most learned scholars and rich from SC/ST community have been victims to caste discrimination. Your comment itself has the reply. SC/ST students go to govt schools and colleges becuase of lack of money. So this is economic and not based on caste. There are a lot of OC students also in a govt institution. Caste discrimination in this present world is happening to OC people also. I cannot say who gets the most discrimination. But I know it happens to everyone. If they keep the reservation based on economic basis, then the SC/ST students who go to govt schools will still enjoy the benefit and at the same time SC/ST students who are in private colleges, will not. SC/ST students go to govt schools because they are economically backward, but why are they so?- It is because of the caste based crimes performed against them for years which made them poor. It is really interesting to hear that OC are subjected to discrimination. I come under OC i have not ever experienced any discrimination or have any one i know of. You need to understand what reservation is for, it is a means of providing opportunity for a section of the population who have been historically deprived, it is nothing but protection for them so that they dont get caught in the age old system(discrimination) and so that they can escape the system. There are examples where the rich or the learned SC/ST have been victims of discrimination which have brought them back to square one. Note: Reservation is not to economically uplift them. If you want to uplift someone out of poverty then the solution is to provide free and fare education, health care and other basic human needs- Economic reservation is not an option at all. All countries have both poor and rich but they dont have reservation for the poor, instead they provide free and fare education and health care. What you speak is communism and i subscribe to Marxs- but for communism to work you need a society free of caste and should be socially equal (communism was possible in Europe because they were able to get rid of feudal system). I hope u understand the need for reservation. Economic Reservation is something stupid at it is not a need to lift people out of poverty.

That's the mindset which has zero relationship with education or money. That's a completely different issue. Reservation is not made for that purpose. It is made to mainly to give equal opportunity to settle down we'll in life. To increase the standard of living for the people who were denied of that. When I say standard of living, it is again not discrimination. Even a rich SC/ST can get discriminated based on his caste. Standard of living is being able to earn a higher quality living and a person irrespective of caste should have a free choice on what he/she wants to pursue. That's why reservation comes into education first. If all are equally educated, they can compete for jobs equally and that's when talent comes into play. To improve talent in all is the aim of reservation in education. Once this is done, reservation in job is not needed as everyone is equally competent. To improve educational quality, economic reservation is a must because if you can get a doctor seat for 80 %, what's the need to get 99%? No one will aim for excellence. They'll play safe by aiming only for that much. Then the quality will never increase. People will study for getting a seat rather than studying with interest towards helping people. This is where the mindset comes again. I'm happy that you never faced any discrimination. But I was not included in groups because I was called thayir saadham. Ive faced all these abuses many times. This is also discrimination, in case you did not know. Atleast the cut off of the SC/ST and similar castes should be constantly and gradually increased so that they should develop constantly. When that is impossible, economic is the only way.

I dont understand how you isolate incidents related to temple- it is the heart of discrimination. Discrimination was the reason for reservation and it was not to improve the standard of living(or their economy) and not to settle down it was a means of protecting education and job for them. You need to understand the background in which reservation was brought in, during early 20th century people were advocating for education based on caste(traditional education) which was implemented for a short duration called the Kulakalvi(do the profession of your parents). That is why there is no reservation for at school level as all of us learn the same basics, but when you go to college you become a professional without reservation one profession would easily be occupied by a particular community. Same for jobs. When it comes to professional education all are not equally educated and same for jobs. I hope you understand what i mean. Note: Equal opportunity and protection. If you think people who get 80% are getting doctor seats in private colleges by giving donation, then regulate that if you cant then demand closing of all those private colleges. On the contrary if a SC/ST student who has discrimination, economic backwardness in his pocket gets 80% then he is the most fit student for the seat. Our lethargic mindset comes because these days kids are being pampered to much it is the same across economic lines, and because our education is to materialistic. No parents want their child to become a social worker. Most of the social workers of the past never had a formal school education. Education is not just in the class and if one wants to indulge himself in social work or think towards the society education for that is definitely not there in our class rooms "today"(at present). So quality, think towards society has nothing to do with reservation. I m deeply sorry for the difficulty you went through, but i have heard that term being used against all irrespective of caste, even religion i have seen it and i know who are targeted by using such terms. Even if a person from SC/ST community is rich and educated he still is seen by a "casteist" as lower birth. Cut of for different courses for SC/ST is actually high for civil when i joined it was around 191 in anna university and for computer science it was around 188. Which is actually around 95%. We need to have more quality institutions without which there are no quality students. It is a good sign that people want to have equality and social justice this shall make humans more social.

Well, “creamy layer categorization (CLC)” has no merit as well as has some merit if sincerely implemented. The proponents of CLC are mostly anti-reservationist. They remind the Tamil proverb “why wolves are worried about a lamb being soaked by rain”! In the past, when reservation was introduced the quotas were unutilized and filled by the “top creamy layer” in the society (not the CL among SC or BC or OBC). The CLC is another way to leave the quotas unfilled so that the “creamiest layers of other unreserved categories will stand benefit. Let us see the reality and be sensible. The poorest among the SC, BC and OBC could not afford to educate their children and will never enter the job market! If CLC proponents are honest and sincere, then they must argue to provide full financial support to the poorest among the SC or BC and OBC so that they can enter the job market to compete. Until then the so called CLC is another way of denying the SC or BC or OBC the opportunities.

All the communities that are considered as "Untouchables/ Out-Caste" now, were enjoying very high status in the society, several centuries ago. Several centuries ago, when Aaryan's brought "Varnashram" concept, a set of people who were in very high status in the society refused to accept it. So with the support of the then Kings, Aaryan's asked that set of people to leave the villages and live outside the village. Then they asked them not to take water from the village ponds. After that they asked that set of people not to walk on the streets of the villages. And they asked Villagers not to talk/ mingle with that set of people who refused to accept "Varnashram Concept". And finally Aaryan's announced that set of people as "Untouchables/ Out-Caste" with support of the then Kings. We, the Scheduled Caste were in high status in the society several centuries ago. We have to regain our status now. The Great Literary Mr.Valmiki wrote the Great Literature "Ramayan". But Valmiki community is an Untouchable/ Out-Caste now. In Tamil Nadu, the Great Poet "Thiruvalluvar" wrote "Thirukural" But Thiruvalluvar's community "Paraiyar/ Pariah" is an Untouchable/ Out-Caste" now. May God bless the Scheduled Caste Communities and let us regain our high status once again now.

As long as caste d ..it discrimination and social inequality continues. The current reservation must continue. For 1000s of years opportunities were not given and depressed by dominant lobby castes , 2 or 3 generations of reservation is not sufficient. More anti-reservation arguments are by the proponents of barbaric Manusmrity and Vedic culture. There are no representations in ARMY By some castes let them join the army to service. There is 100% reservation for one caste in temple priests and jeeyars that must be brought under social justice and reservation. Fundamental basis for reservations are. 1. Take the poverty among castes..its highest in SC/ST and BC.. Forward castes own more than disproportionate wealth. Brahmin enjoyed free housing in Temple properties in agraharam and possess most temple kattalai lands. Varnasharam system only educate brahmins. So is there a level playing field? NEVER! 2. Learning environment is not available to underprivileged SC/ST and BC compared to privileged castes. Also most of the SC/ST and BC live in Rural India and severly handicapped in terms of quality education and exposure to developments and advancements. UNEVEN AND DISADVATAGED SITUATION. 3. In a uneven playing field reservation is a must. More than 90% of jobs were taken by 10% of the privileged population. Then how to ensure equality and social justice... 4. I am surprised how selfish we as a society and we lost social perception. We are not bothered to grow together as a nation. 5. Let us touch our conciousness and ask the almighty to guide us to treat all Indians equally and share and uplift all together. 6. EVR PERIYAR fought for Antidiscrimation, and social justice and fought for reservations..in Tamil Nadu which is successful. Now we can see Tamil SC/BC ARE EMPLOYED in the USA and everywhere . There is no reservation in the USA for SC/BC. 7. The top schools and colleges are managed by Christian missionaries. Most of these educational institutions are managed by the the SC/ST and BC and most of the so called elites were taught by these underprivileged people. Those teachers were treated hither to either as untouchables are sudras but they could teach all of us and make us good educated citizens. 8. Merit is conveniently abused. If opportunity is given to all of them, everyone has the inherent merit that needs exposure to an enabling environment and thats what reservations are all about. Let us stop all these selfish cry against reservations. Let us help to enable all of us to grow together to make India great.

If one is given reservations based on economic alone then again there is no assurance that caste based favouritism will not be propagated even in that too. problem with reservation is that the person who have already benefited from it by getting job/college admission there children get it again. Hence until creamy layer of ST/SC/OBC is implemented until then there will no upliftment of ST/SC/Tribal. There should be a rule , if you use reservation facility post getting job, your family from then on can't take reservation. By using this only India will abolish reservation and the really needed people will get it .
