Hari please note that Dr Kalam also became a notable personality only after Pokran II BLAST under Vajpayee' regime in 1998. What Mr Nambi Narayan said is true. The youth of the country is not interested in knowing about the achievers in Science and Technology. How many youth know about A R Mudaliar, A L Mudaliar Dr Rangachari Dr Guruswamy M Visweswarayya ( the list is illustrative and not exhaustive). Is this not a sad state of affairs ? The same is with other sectors where role models are not known to youth whether Police, or Civil services. Very unfortunate situation.

@@gopinathbalakrishnan7390 I had said that the list is illustrative and not exhaustive. There were so many scientists of Tamil origin like Mr R Chidambaram, Dr P K Iyengar . Both headed BARC. They were nuclear scientists. There was a senior Scientist in NASA. He came to India in 1970.( He belongs to Tamilnadu and a doctorate in Physics ). He came with a project relating to Semi Conductor related one. He wanted to establish the unit here in TN. When he met the then Chief Secretary, he was directed to meet Industries Secretary. After hearing him the Industries Secretary asked him to meet the Industries Minister. That man cooly said a certain percentage of money should be given as " SPEED MONEY) for getting clearances. This NASA scientist was aghast at the request of the minister, he simply went back to USA. This is the way we treat our scientists. The degradation started the day DMK came to power. Please remember the famous quote of a former CM Who said " தேனை எடுத்தவன் புறங்கையை நக்காமல் இருப்பானா". What a quote.
