I played silent hill 2 on a tube television, with black and white color scheme during lonely sleepless nights in a rented rundown apartment. I actually had no idea which ending would happen, and wasn't planning to even try to guess. But then, during the corridor before the final boss, I remembered that the amount of time that the player spends in the corridor matters. If the player runs through it and leaves as fast as possible, which the speedrunner obviously does, then James exits as soon as Mary tells him to. But if the player doesn't leave, then Mary becomes increasingly angry that James is still there, before finally breaking down and begging him to stay. The chosen option probably represents how the event actually happened. The former shows James is able to let go of Mary and 'leave'. While the latter shows him still hanging on to Mary, to the point of clinging to her substitute: 'Maria'. Since I didn't notice any other ending-affecting actions being taken, my guess was 'Leave'.
@CheshireCad2 жыл бұрын
Personally, in the several times I've played this game, I've always stayed until Mary completely stops talking. I don't want to imagine her alone and afraid, apologizing to James and begging him to come back, but knowing that she's driven him away.
