Honestly that's a very solid showing for Doctor Who especially with it being such a STACKED Christmas lineup and Doctor Who beating Strictly is incredibly surprising, that's rare in and of itself and great to see! No surprise that Gavin and Stacey and Wallace and Gromit dominated the charts though!

If the stack was on other channels running against Who I would agree, but having these top tier attractions on after should have helped, not hindered.

Wait, I'm American, never seen Gavin & Stacy - isn't James Cordon in that, and universally hated? As for last season, IF there was a decline of any kind I think the main reason is it was in MAY! Not a good time for TV. As for Joy To The World - Magnificent! 8 of 10, 4.25 Stars, however you like to judge, it was splendid viewing.

I don't think Gavin and Stacy would appeal to an American audience. I don't think James Cordon is particular liked as a person but his character Smithy is a well liked character with a UK audience. At 12 million it probably will have more views than Doctor Who in the UK and USA combined.

I just this very moment finished it! I didnt have the time on the day. I loved it. Honestly, it was a charming hour, and I know it's going to get criticized by some negative folk, but it really worked its magic on me. I love this Doctor. Ncuti is just a charm bucket, and I loved its story and timey wimey shenanigans. Great message, fun, humourous and well paced. The covid stuff truly made me weep, and if im being honest I would find it hard not to be slightly moved by it. I just loved it, truly. Great fun. A typical warm hearted wrap up for a Dr Who special. This world needs some Joy. Loved it ♥️🎬✌️

The ending was way too cheesy but the episode overall was a good one and assuming he sticks to what we saw last night Ncuti seems to have "found" his Doctor (something that was lacking in his first season where he was a bit all over the place) it deserved to do well in the ratings and here's hoping it's a sign of an improvement in the ratings and the story quality for next season

Why does anyone watch tv at christmas?!? So weird.
@simongardner37662 күн бұрын
I watched the Christmas episode at relatives, the first Doctor Who episode I have seen since the last Christmas episode. Mainly because it was a Moffat and not and RTD episode and also because I just needed something to watch. It wasn't terrible or anything, but I could not always hear what Ncuti was saying and still think it wasn't a patch on a Capaldi or Smith Christmas special. A few mandatory PC comments here and there. The ending was a bit unoriginal and underwhelming, rather that the controversial one that have been talked about. Millie seemed to have been added for no reason but to just to tick a box for her fans. The ratings were lower than last years, but I would say it was a huge improvement on the musical goblins effort. At least it had a sci-fi time travel element to it. Quite an emotional episode too. The actress that played the hotel owner was good.

If it can only muster 4.11 million on a Christmas special that is a bit of a disaster. Remember a lot of people would have tuned in early to watch Wallace and Gromit and that would have been considered a view by the BBC. All the LBGTQ messaging and the Doctor crying in RTD/Gatwa era is becoming a parody of itself with each passing episode. God knows how low the ratings will drop if this carries on in Gatwa's second season but this special didn't bode well.
@Sparx6322 күн бұрын
It is not LGBTQ “messaging” or the Doctor crying that’s causing Doctor Who to drop in viewers ffs. Believe me the majority do not care either way when it comes to these issues, it won’t bring them in but won’t put them off either. The problem is entirely the loss of interest in TV as a whole thanks to the domination of streaming.
@MOak-q1e2 күн бұрын
@@Sparx632 If the majority didn't care about such issues why do you think one of Trumps most successful election adverts was "Harris is for the They them, Trump is for you" . Roughly half of the UK is also socially conservative so they do care about that kind of thing. Infusing LBGTQ content into family shows and movies has been unsuccessful. Disney apparently recently oversaw the production of Inside Out 2 to remove any overt LBGTQ content from the movie after numerous high profile failures. Guess what that film was a success. Wake up.

@@Sparx632 Roughly half of the electorate in most countries consider themselves socially conservative and for the most part those people tend to be against "woke culture" so clearly your comment does not take that into account.
@Sparx6322 күн бұрын
@GilgameshThrone yes that may be true, but people who use the word “woke” and are genuinely concerned about it and wouldn’t watch a show because of it are a minority, it’s an import of the US culture war by people who lean hard to far right and want to distract everyone from real issues. Most people care about their wallets and nothing more and that’s why they’re conservative. Grab anyone off the street and ask them about “wokeness” most of them won’t have a clue what you’re on about.

The viewing figures for a Christmas Day special where not great. Lets be honest. We will have to see what the consolidated ratings are like. I stopped watching halfway through last season because of all the LBGTQ crap they were shoehorning into the show. I did get to see this years Christmas special because I was around at my parents and my niece wanted to watch it. I thought it was a passable episode, nothing special though. Sadly still full of LBGTQ propaganda so I won't be returning next season. The BBC need to realise the woke era is over, all its achieved is the rise of the far right. If they don't dial back on their agenda it only will increase the chances of a Reform win in 2029.I don't think that would be a great outcome for anyone least of all the BBC who would lose their funding.
