That 90s Show should retcon Charlie's death, and say that the gang made everybody think Charlie died from his fall (for whatever funny reason) and Point Place named the water tower after him. It could work. Either Kitty was one of them who believed it or she just left out some very important details on the tape (off-screen maybe) of Charlie surviving the fall. He comes back, but he's kind of crippled from the accident.

For all the Charlie fans out there, I finally got the answer on why Charlie had to die on the show (info from Wikipedia). It was planned for Charlie to replace Eric in season 8, however Charlie chose to die on the show because Bret Harrison who plays Charlie decided to work on another TV show which I'm guessing was The Loop. And that's were Josh Meyers got the call to play Randy.

One issue with his death is that after the initial joke, no one treats it like a real death like with Red’s mother, or Kitty’s father. No one even mentions Charlie again even though he kind of lived at the Forman’s house, was the son of Red’s friend, and a childhood friend of Eric. The whole subplot of Red’s war buddy being in town on business is never talked about again. The characters don’t react like human beings, and As a result, it dissociates the audience from the characters for the remainder of the season. Not a major blow, as he wasn’t there very long, but for the characters, I think his death should have more meaning, So here’s an episode pitch for the upcoming reboot: Have an episode where the new characters come across home video or photos of Eric leaving for Africa, Noticing Charlie in them and asking about him. Red deflects and leaves the room, Kitty becoming suspicious. She asks how Red’s war buddy has been doing all these years, To which we reveal Red hasn’t talked to him since Charlie’s death. Red didn’t have the heart to confront his friend after the son entrusted to him under Red’s roof, died on his watch. Kitty tells Red that he’s too old to hold in things like this, and he needs to make things right with his friend, the other characters all having their own moments where they realize they’ve kept in pain, and that it sucks their friend never got to grow up with them. Red visits his friend and apologizes, assuming he’ll tell him he wants nothing to do with him, until his friend gives Red a letter that Charlie wrote before his death. The letter was written to his father, telling him that he’s moving to Point Place, because he’s figured out where he belongs. Charlie’s father spent years hating Red for being such a coward after fighting together in a war, and resented him for being so negligent. But now he takes comfort in knowing that it was with Eric’s friends, that Charlie was able to find his purpose, and died happy. This would be a lot to do for such a fleeting character not many people remember, but I think it would enrich the characters, and make Charlie’s exit feel less throwaway.

I really didn't like how Charlie died, it was so unrealistic, now I know this is suppose to be comedic and all and I understand the actor had to leave but no one except maybe Kitty even shows much remorse about it I mean the characters who watched him die are completely unaffected by it and couldn't care less. I laughed and got a bit upset watching this scene because just as Charlie started to fit in, he died. And nobody even cared. He deserved a bit more i think, man I miss this show.
